Careful financial analysis of capital investments has always been a vital task in mining which is one of the most capital intensive sectors of the economy. Furthermore, mining costs have leapt ahead at an astonishing rate in recent years not just due to accelerated inflation, which affects everyone, but also due to the imposition of enormous costs of enviromental regulation and the continuing decline in ore tenor. Not only have unit costs risen, but the amount of effort expended to recover a pound of metal has increased due to the inexorable decrease in ore grades. New low-margin, high-volume mining investments place increasing importance on sound financial planning. Owing to the enormous investments involved, a greater share of individual corporate resources is committed to these projects than is normally the case in other industries. Thus, the consequences of failure are extremely grave, and a close examination of all inputs to the evaluation equation is clearly indicated.

Geological, hydrological, and geochemical information synthesized in a Geographical Information System (GIS) for water and rock surrounding South and Middle Forks of Mineral Creek, northwest of Silverton Colorado, was analyzed to distinguish between the natural and the mining-related sources of metals to dace waters in the watershed An important natural source of metals to surface water emanates from a porphyry molybdenum deposit south and upslope from the Middle Fork of Mineral Creek. Interaction of surface and ground water with fractured, altered rocks and permeable, Quatemay-age surficial deposits produces downstream water quality that does not meet current State of Colorado water quality standards for metals and pH. GIS site characterization and three-dimensional modeling distinguish surficial deposits as volumetrically substantial, significant sources of naturally occurring metals that strongly influence water quality and complicate ongoing mine-site mitigation efforts. Our findings indicate that regional hydrologic and geologic information needs to be evaluated before realistic water quality guidelines are established and mitigation recommendations are confidently implemented.

"INTRODUCTION Twin Metals Minnesota (TMM) (operating as a joint venture between Duluth Metals and Antofagasta PLC) assumed control of the property in 2010. Amec became involved with the project in 2011 and in 2012 incorporated additional drilling in order to update historic resource estimates. The Maturi geological model and resource estimate was updated in 2014 to incorporate additional information obtained during 2013 and 2014 drill campaigns. In 2017, Amec was purchased by the Wood Group and is now known as Wood. Geology The Twin Metals Minnesota (TMM) Maturi, Maturi Southwest, Birch Lake, and Spruce Road properties are located in northeastern Minnesota (Figure 1). This talk discussed the Maturi deposit only, although all four deposits share similarities. The following geology is summarized from Peterson and Severson (2002).Maturi lies within the Superior Province of the Canadian Shield which is exposed in central and northeastern Minnesota and extends northward into Ontario. In eastern Minnesota, the Midcontinent Rift System developed during crustal scale extension in the Mesoproterozoic Era. The rift system is traceable, as exposures of mantle-derived tholeiitic to subalkaline mafic lava flows, intrusives, and rift-filling fluvial sedimentary rocks, and in the subsurface as a gravity anomaly (high), from the eastern end of Lake Superior, arcing west across the lake basin, and extending south-southwest to northeastern Kansas. Intrusion of the Duluth Complex, circa 1,108 - 1,099 Ma, was related to rifting and is co-genetic with the North Shore Volcanic Group mafic volcanic rocks that form the hanging wall of the Duluth Complex to the east. Cu-Ni-precious metals (PM) mineralization including Pt, Pd, Au and Ag within the Duluth Complex is hosted by mafic to ultramafic intrusive rocks that are part of the overall intrusive complex. The Duluth Complex is defined as a more or less continuous mass of mafic to felsic plutonic rocks that extends northeastward for more than 170 miles (275 km) in an arcuate fashion from Duluth nearly to Grand Portage in Minnesota. It is bounded by a footwall of Paleoproterozoic sedimentary rocks and Archean granite-greenstone terranes (Peterson and Severson, 2002), and a hanging wall largely of comagmatic anorthosite, rift related flood basalts, and hypabyssal intrusions of the Beaver Bay Complex. Mineralization is hosted in the basal mineralized zone (BMZ) of the South Kawishiwi Intrusion (SKI). The SKI magmas intruded sub-horizontally between hangingwall Anorthositic Series (AN) rocks and footwall granitic rocks of the Neoarchean Giants Range batholith (GRB). In the past few years the world petroleum industry has increasingly felt the weight of changes in the principal economic factors affecting pro¬fits. As a result of, these changes, it has been necessary for many oil companies to acquire certain new facilities in order to strengthen their competitive positions and thereby protect their tremendous investments in crude oil reserves, pipe line facilities, refining operations, and marketing outlets. Principally these needs have been met by new capital outlays. A supplementary, method of acquiring needed facilities, however, has been to obtain existing facilities through complete or partial acquisition of other companies.' properties. It is this method of meeting competitive pressures with which this paper is concerned. This paper presents a statistical breakdown of the mergers and acquisitions which occurred in the oil industry between January 1, 1954, and October 1, 1959, showing the frequency' with which certain types of properties were acquired in each of the years studied. In addition, it discusses the principal economic conditions which stimulated many of these property trans¬fers, comments on the effects of these mergers on the consuming public, and indicates the types of, mergers and the rate at which they may be expected during the next three or four years. The basic data upon which the statistical analysis presented in this paper is based were taken from several published sources. Obviously they are somewhat incomplete because not all mergers and acquisitions were reported However;, a careful search was conducted through, The Wall Street, Journal, The Oil and Gas Journal, Potroleum Week, and The Oil Daily with the result that the data should be reasonably complete and comparable for each of the years studied, It is believed, therefore, that the statistical analysis which' follows provides a reasonably accurate indication of the general trend in mergers and acquisitions during the period studied.

Reaction kinetics for gold dissolution in acid thiourea solutions were investigated using formamidine disulfide as an oxidant. For the conditions studied it appears that a surface reaction limits the rate of gold dissolution. The rate was found to be first order with respect to thiourea concentration and half order with respect to the concentration of formamidine disulfide; the apparent activation energy for the reaction was 10.40 kcal/mol (43.40 kJ/mol); and the reaction rate was independent of pH for the pH range 1.0 to 3.0.

"The 13.2 m external diameter double deck Istanbul Strait Road Tube Crossing is one of the most challenging underwater tunnel projects in the world. Subjected to 11 bars of hydrostatic pressure, variable geology, and being in a very active seismic area, the execution of the project required innovative solutions, sophisticated construction techniques, and prudent risk management approach. The 5 km tunnel consists of 3.4 km TBM bored tunnel, 1 km twin NATM tunnels, and cut and cover sections. The project is being delivered in a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) contract in a public-private partnership. The technical challenges, coupled with financial and commercial risks required the implementation of sophisticated risk management tactics including the provision of Independent Design Verification. Presently, the project is in its advanced stages of construction with a recent successful TBM breakthrough on August 22nd 2015. The paper presents the technical challenges of the project from the design, construction, and risk management aspects and provides the status of the construction. PROJECT BACKGROUND The $1.245 billion Istanbul Strait Road Tunnel Crossing project, dubbed the Eurasia Tunnel, is one of several major infrastructure projects being implemented in the Republic of Turkey in a public-private partnership approach. The project provides a direct and easy connection between the Anatolian (Asian) side of Istanbul and the heart of its historical district on the European side across the Bosphorus Strait which connects the Black Sea with the Sea of Marmara. Upon its completion in 2017, the project will improve connections to a wide network of motorways on both sides, increase capacity across the Bosphorus by 100,000 vehicles a day, reduce congestion and save motorists an average of 45 minutes of commuting time in each direction, and bringing significant economic benefits to the city and the region; it will ease traffic across the strait, reduce congestion, decrease pollutants and emission while maintaining the historical silhouette of the city. Figure 1 provides a general view of the project location and alignment. The overall project consists of three parts totaling 14.6km. Parts 1 and 3 consist mainly of widening existing motorways, providing connections to existing roads, reconstructing local bridges and underpasses on the European and Anatolian sides respectively. Part 2 is the tunnel crossing across the Bosphorus; it is the most complex part of the project with the greatest challenges and risks. Part 2 is 5.4 km long consisting of 3.4 km of 13.2m external diameter TBM bored tunnel under the Bosphorus Strait, 1-km of twin NATM tunnels on the Asian side, cut and cover transition boxes in the Asian and the European sides and depressed approaches on both sides. In addition, this segment includes the toll plazas, ventilation buildings, and the tunnel control and maintenance facilities."

When one's attention moves from the control of a process unit or from the control of a department of similar units, to the control of an entire plant, two things must change. One is the techniques of control, and the other, the goal or purpose of control. The goal is no longer maintaining a certain quality of product or maintaining a particular flow rate through a process unit. The goal becomes economic - how to make the most money out of the plant. The principal control techniques become those of optimizing, rather than regulating. It is quite common to discuss the control of an entire plant in terms of three levels of control l; regulation, supervision, and optimization. Regulation is the control of inputs to a process unit at desired values. This is accomplished by two or three mode analog controllers or DDC loops. The second level of control is the selection of these desired values, e.g., set-points of the regulation controllers. The third level is to make such adjustments or corrections to the supervisory calculations so as to optimize the plant profit. It is immediately evident that supervisory control and optimizing control are intimately related, and a distinct dividing line cannot always be drawn between the two. Some authors prefer to add even more levels such as adaptive control and management information systems, but we believe our point is well made without further division of the functions which are necessary for complete plant control. To accomplish the economic goal, that is, the optimizing (maximizing) of the profit of a mineral processing plant, the plant should ideally be operated as if it were a separate company, buying its raw materials on the open market and selling its products on the open market. While petrochemical plants endeavor to operate in that manner, unfortunately this is not true of a mineral processing plant. The plant manager has to accept the amount and quality of ore the mining department delivers to him, and the products (concentrates) are delivered to another department of the company for further refining. Particulate matter is one of the leading pollutants in the mines and in the communities in the areas near or surrounding the mines. The availability of large Clinical and environmental data sets obtained from the mines has brought about the need to use better approaches to analyze the collected data. Prediction and control of particulate matter concentration in the mining environment is essential in minimizing air pollution and protecting the respiratory health of mine workers. The main objective of this research work is to analyze datasets obtained from a mining area using machine learning techniques which will then be followed by the real-time estimation of dust particulate in the mines. Datasets collected over 8 years in an hourly sampling rate from an open cast mine is cleaned and analyzed for trends and patterns. Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs), Support Vector Machines and decision trees techniques are applied to analyze and predict the particulate concentrate. The estimation of particulate concentration using Artificial Intelligence will significantly contribute toward the development of quantitative tools to be used in correlating of cause and effect of dust concentration in mines. The results obtained in this work will form a sub-unit of a respiratory health monitoring system for mine workers. The system is essential in the collection, analysis, and tracking of mine workers’ respiratory health, thus it forms part of an early intervention system for mine workers. From the existing theory, we expect the Artificial Neural Network will perform much better than previously used classical models.

The image of the open-pit miner in the eyes or the Environmentalist has never been very outstanding. The phosphate industry, whose history in Florida reaches back to the late 1800's, can-not be credited until recently with a large number or accomplishments in terms of protection or the environment to change this image. This lack of action was not deliberate or in opposition with the desires of the public. In the formative years, there was little or no public and the companies found it necessary to build towns to house their employees and their families, towns which remained in existence until the late 50's and early 60's or formed the core of present large communities. Neither these pioneers nor most subsequent resource developers considered themselves un-thinking spoilers, nor were they so regarded by their contemporaries. Instead, they acted in a manner consistent with their environmental circumstances and intellectual heritage. Early Americans did make mistakes in using the land but the mistakes became apparent only in the opinion of later generations. Over the past five to ten years, there has been a new self-awareness in the industry with regard to environmental responsibilities brought about, in part by a continuing onslaught of new regulations with jurisdiction over our activities. Part of the new regulations are aimed at industries as a whole while many, particularly state regulations, pertain specifically to the phosphate mining industry. Why all the new regulations? The reasons are encased in a complex web of activity but stem primarily from a new public awareness of its environment. More and more of our youth have become interested in the environmental science areas such as biology and ecology. The tremendous growth rate in both the population and industry has made personal issues out of subjects such as atmospheric inversions and water shortages which previously were abstract concepts. The State has grown from a population of 1,500,000 in 1930 to approximately 9,000,000 people today. This personal impact and general lack of knowledge on the part of the public concerning economics has resulted in big business no longer being held in awe, often in contempt and generally in suspicion where environmental concerns are encountered.

The design and effectiveness of ground consolidation to regain stability of longwall faces vary widely and are often based predominantly on-site precedence or what were considered successful applications at other sites in similar situations. Little is known regarding product migration characteristics or change in rockmass conditions as a result of the application of consolidation chemicals. This paper presents the in-situ testing rationale designed and implemented recently across several longwall operations in the Bowen Basin, Queensland, Australia to provide quantitative measurement of the actual zone of influence of various resin injection products. Product migra- tion was physically measured by monitoring the change in rockmass temperature as a result of the exothermic chemical reaction of the various strata consolidation chemicals used. In conjunction with strata coring and Lugeon transmissivity testing pre- and post-injection to characterise the improvement in rockmass conditions due to consolidation product injection. The results of the testing programme, migration measurements, and rockmass assessment are presented, along with a discussion on how site- based Rock Mechanics Engineers can incorporate the data into the design of strata consolidation plans.

The occurrence of rock falls in underground coal mines entails detrimental effects as fatal or non-fatal injuries on workers, stoppages in mining operations and breakdown of equipment. In this paper, a risk assessment approach on the basis of a decision analysis trend is employed in order to assess the possibility of and manage roof falls. Risk is then assessed by determination of likelihood of occurrence and the cost of consequences (outcomes). In this regard, collected real roof fall data from Tabas and Kerman coal regions comprising of several underground coal mines are used. It is concluded that the annual accidents due to the roof falls occurrence in the all investigated mines are so high that it is economically feasible to improve the support systems and to implement a suitable educational program as well as an accurate supervision and other elements of safety management.

Wide variation in the nature of the coal seams and the surrounding rock mass of the Indian coalfields and very little information about the associated stress fields were observed to be the major hurdles in the straight forward application of a continuous miner (CM) based mechanised depillaring approach. Due to various techno-economic reasons, a considerably large number of coal seams have been developed and are standing on pillars in India. The development of pillars is done as per Indian coal mines regulation, which results in pillars of relatively large size. In fact, the large size of the pillars provides stiff natural support to control caving of the massive overlying strata. However, the size of these pillars is not conducive for the single pass pillar stripping technique and, therefore, there is a need for pillar splitting before pillar extraction/retreating. Splitting of the pillar may reduce the competency/stiffness of the pillar, which creates a chance of overriding during final extraction below a massive roof stratum. This paper first discusses the existing coal mining scenario in India followed by a brief presentation of geo-technical details of pillar extraction at the three sites where a CM has been introduced for depillaring/pillar retreating in the country to date. Based on past rock mechanics experiences with conventional depillaring faces, stability issues of the pillars, fenders, and stumps in and around the depillaring face are discussed. This may prove to be an important factor in the success of future CM faces. It is recognized that the application of the modern strata movement monitoring techniques may improve operation safety by providing valuable qualitative and quantitative information that can be used to improve the design of modern concepts like roof bolt based breaker line support during pillaring.

Park City Municipal Corporation (PCMC), long before being recognized as an Olympic venue was known as one of the great American silver mining towns. During a century of active mining, the Park City mining district produced millions of ounces of silver in addition to a substantial amount of mine tailing waste. Since 1985 the City has been remediating these impacts with state and federal oversight. One particular challenging CERCLIS site, that was previously a historic mine tailings pond is known as Prospector Square Development (CERCLIS Listing Silver Creek Tailings UTD98051404). This site has been very challenging due to the metals that impact the shallow ground water that eventually drain into the Silver Creek Watershed. To address the water quality impairment the City and Missouri University of Science and Technology teamed up to investigate the feasibility of constructing a horizontal-flow wetland to treat this pollutant source. This effort began with the building of a pilot cell in June of 2004 and lead to the construction of a full scale horizontal-flow wetland in the fall of 2008. The design of the pilot and full scale biocell was based upon lab-scale research conducted by the Missouri University of Science and Technology. In October of 2008, the Prospector Drain effluent was introduced to the system and to date analytical results reveal that the biocell is treating the Prospector Drain outfall below the Silver Creek Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) endpoint goals for zinc .39 mg/L and cadmium .00075 mg/L. The water chemistry of the influent, that originates from the historic silver mine tailings pond, is impaired with zinc and cadmium and has low iron with a pH of roughly 6.5. The construction of this unit encountered many challenges related to constituent relations, regulatory scrutiny, constructability and start-up. Nonetheless, since implementation this unit is considered a success for improving water quality within the Silver Creek Watershed.

About 200 M tons of coal were imported into Japan in 2007 and Indonesia was its second largest exporter, accounting for about 30 M tons (12% of the total imported coal). Indonesia produced about 200 M tons of coal, about 75% of which was exported in 2007. As the Indonesian government has decided on an energy policy wherein 33% of the country?s primary energy demand will be met by coal by the year 2025, the domestic demand for coal has increased dramatically in recent years. Over 99% of the coal produced in Indonesia comes from surface mines. However, the conditions of surface mines are worsening each year: the stripping ratio is increasing, approaching the economic ratio, and the infrastructure for coal from inland mining areas is insufficient for such intense mining operations. To meet the demand for coal in Indonesia and the rest of the world, underground mines have to be developed. However, mining engineers and/or miners in Indonesia do not have a lot of experiences, expertise and know-how concerning the plans and operations of an underground coal mine. In addition, the industry faces a lot of problems which include poor conditions such as a steep coal seam, groundwater problem, stability of highwall, etc. Under these situations, a mine targeted in this research attempts to develop a new underground mine from an open-cut highwall because the stripping ratio in the surface mining area has almost reached the limitation of economic value. This paper discusses the possible development of a new underground coal mine from an open-cut highwall by means of field observation and numerical analysis.

The ASTM standard method D 5744-96 was developed to provide a well-defined kinetic test protocol, conducted under controlled reaction conditions, with the intent of generating reproducible results. The US Bureau of Land Management, American Assay Laboratories, and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources cooperated in a intralaboratory and interlaboratory testing of the protocol. Intralaboratory testing was conducted on duplicate samples of gabbro (8) and siltite-argillite (5) rocks for periods of 20 to 125 weeks. The difference between replica& intralaboratory pH readings on drainage from the gabbro for the drip-trickle leach alternative typically did not exceed 0.1 units, although differences as high as 0.4 units were observed. The difference from the mean for rates of sulfate, calcium and magnesium release was typically within 10%. Intralaboratory results for the siltite-argillite samples were generally similar, although a one unit pH difference was observed for one sample. Three different laboratories tested a gabbro sample for 125 weeks, with a maximum difference from the mean pH of 0.5 units. The percent difference from the mean for sulfate and calcium release rates was typically within lo%, although values as high as 30% were observed. Data on intralaboratory and interlaboratory agreement on the flood rinse alternative of the method were limited. Replication on the sample tested was comparable to of better than that observed for the drip-trickle method testing of the same sample.

The effect of sulfur dioxide on collectorless and collector induced flotation of chalcopyrite was studied by cyclic voltammetry on a rotating disc electrode. Contact angle measurements were made to determine the effect of sulfur dioxide concentration and electrochemical treatment. The benefits of sulfur dioxide in enhancing the selectivity of separating chalcopyrite from complex sulfide ores are discussed.

In the post war years metals analysts and statisticians have generally tracked the demand for metals in line with changes in OECD industrial production (IP) growth rates because, undoubtedly, the correlation between IP growth and metal demand was reasonable. However the correlation was exaggerated. During times of expanding IP growth metal demand increased at a faster proportional rate than IP growth. This was probably due to industry restocking in anticipation of growing demand at the start of each economic cycle. Conversely, metal demand would slacken at a greater rate than would be suggested by negative IP growth as industry destocked in order to reduce costs. Nonetheless, overall, a reasonable correlation between IP growth, over the longer term, and metal demand could be painted. Yet, although this correlation has stood well since the last world war it has been based on the fact that the bulk of the world's IP growth stemmed from the industrialized countries of the western world, latterly including Japan. The so called "developing world" was of little consequence, whilst countries of the Soviet Union and Communist Bloc were deemed to be closed, self-contained entities which, for each metal, would either be net exporters or importers. These quantities would be used by analysts to calculate the overall supply/demand equation for the western world only and to deduce whether a commodity was in shortage or surplus. It is now believed that this method of projecting total world supply and demand for raw materials is outdated and takes little account of the worldwide political changes which have occurred since the collapse of communism and the revitalization of China, albeit under a notional communist government. It is no longer appropriate to assess global balances for raw materials on the basis of three economic blocs namely, western world, developing world and communist bloc. Rather, global balances need to be projected on a global basis. In this regard, since the collapse of communism and the removal of many other totalitarian regimes, capitalist forces are at work and are attempting to satisfy, with some considerable success, the expectations of the great mass of the world's poorer people. Such people, usually located in Asia, Africa and Latin America have aspired to the same standard of living as people living in western Europe, North America and Japan. Now, with free market forces at work their aspirations will start to be met. Consequently, the demand for metals and other raw materials will now rise at a much faster rate than at any other time in the world's history. Not only will the production of raw materials have to keep pace with rising IP in the developed world but will also have to keep pace with the demands associated with the rising expectations of rapidly increasing populations in the developing world, as well as from within the old communist bloc countries. This paper sets out to argue the case that metal demand could well increase at a rate faster than the world's mining companies, governments and financiers can deliver.

"The Wangjialing Coal Mine is the main colliery of the China Coal Huajin Energy Limited Liability Company. The average thickness of the coal seam in District 201 is 6.21 m. Fully mechanized longwall mining was used in this district. The ventilation roadway of panel 20102 was influenced by the retreat mining of the adjacent panel 20104. Therefore, large deformation and severe roof falls occurred in this roadway, seriously influencing the safety production of this coal mine. To support the roadway, cable truss was proposed to strengthen the reinforcement of this ventilation roadway. First, numerical simulation was used to optimize the reinforcement parameters, including the cable installation angle, cable length, and eccentric distance. Based on numerical simulation results, in-situ tests were conducted in the ventilation roadway of panel 20102 with the cable truss technology. In-situ monitoring results showed that the roof-to-floor convergence and the convergence of roadway on two sides were within the safety range. Furthermore, no apparent separations occurred in the roof. These indicate that based on the designed parameters, the cable truss system can effectively maintain the roadway stability under the severe influence of the adjacent longwall mining.INTRODUCTIONCable bolts are flexible tendons composed of multi steel wires, which are wound into a strand (Chen, Hagan, and Saydam, 2018). They were initially introduced in the hard rock mining industry in the 1960s. Later, they found rapid application in coal mines to maintain the stability of excavations (Wang et al., 2015).The standard cable bolt is composed of seven steel wires with a diameter of 15.2 mm. Laboratory and in-situ tests showed that there is a low bonding capacity between the standard cable bolt and the grout (Craig and Holden, 2014; Chen, Hagan, and Saydam, 2018). Then, modified cable bolts are developed based on the standard cable bolts. They are improved by changing the surface geometry of standard cable bolts, such as birdcaged cable bolts (Hutchins et al., 1990) or nutcaged cable bolts (Hyett et al., 1993). Further tests proved that modified cable bolts have better mechanical interlock and friction between the cable bolt and grout, leading to larger load transfer capacity of cable bolts.Although cable bolts have been used for many years, failure of the cable bolting system still occurs. A common failure mode is the damage of surrounding confining medium while the cable bolt is still hanging in the roof, which is caused by the bond failure of the cable/grout interface (Hutchinson and Diederichs, 1996). To prevent the cable bolting system from failing, the cable truss system is more widely used in mining engineering."

"The Toyama Line is under construction as a natural gas pipeline with a length of 102 km from Itoigawa City to Toyama City. A 2 km-long tunnel section of the pipeline that we are reporting here is being excavated in a mountain area away from an urban area. The geology under which the tunnel is constructed is collapsible fractured breccia slate and Holocene sandy soil. Other tunnels of the Hokuriku Expressway and Hokuriku Shinkansen are in service above the tunnel route. From the starting shaft on Toyama side, conventional tunneling was adopted to facilitate excavating the base rock layer and maintain enough distance from the Hokuriku Expressway tunnel. From the starting shaft on the Itoigawa side, TBM tunneling was adopted to cope with the unconsolidated soft ground for a 200 m-long section from the shaft. We will discuss the issues and countermeasures concerning the selection of a tunnel route and excavation methods, performance of both conventional and TBM tunneling, and underground connecting of these tunnels excavated by conventional (NATM) and TBM methods under a high groundwater pressure up to 1.2 MPa. INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND The International Petroleum Exploration Teiseki Co., Ltd. (INPEX) is constructing a high-pressure main pipeline network in the Toyama Prefecture area to promote the use and reliable supply of natural gas as shown in Figure 1. As part of the Toyama line project that has a total length of 102 km, A-1 construction, the nearest section to the tunneling starting point in Itoigawa City, where various tunnel excavation methods have been adopted to install the high-pressure pipeline 20 inches in diameter, a 2 km tunnel in the A-1 construction section discussed here is to be excavated by conventional and TBM methods in a mountain area. Based on environmental studies such as traffic jams due to frequent traffic of heavy vehicles disposing of soil, and the effects of dust, noise and vibration during construction, we selected the route to install the gas pipeline in a mountain area as shown in Figure 2, where the impact on the surrounding environment could be minimized."
