This paper focused on the preparation of porous ceramic pellets for microorganism carriers. A new method for the process was developed using simple gel-casting and bubble-in-water-in-oil type of multiphase double emulsion. The globules, consisting of a foamed sepiolite slurry suspension, were dispersed and consolidated in spherical shape in liquid paraffin as gelation progressed. The green pellets were sintered at 1100°C. The influence of surfactants, extension ratio and impeller revolution rate on the process and characteristics of the pellets was investigated. The pellet size was in the range of 1~4mm and determined directly by impeller revolution rate. The fine cell diameter of porous ceramic was in the range of 100~500m and the micropore diameter was less than 5m. The inner macropores were interconnected and extend to the external surface. It is impossible to analyze a result by SEM micrographs and digital camera.

This paper presents considerations in support of a U. S. oil import policy more restrictive than the present Government import program. A lower level of imports and greater long-range stability in the relationship between imports and domestic production are recommended. Reference is made to increasing world-wide surpluses of oil and wide disparities in foreign vs. domestic costs. Resulting economic forces are held responsible for the increase in imports (excluding residual fuel oil) of almost 300 percent and the change in ratio to domestic crude production from 5.4 percent to 13.9 percent during the period 1946-1956 prior to import restrictions. It is pointed out that these imports continued to increase during the years of import restrictions to a ratio of 17.3 percent of domestic production in 1961. Data are presented showing that increasing oil markets outside the United States provide an outlet' for more than 80 percent of total foreign production, with 90 percent of the increase in foreign production going to foreign markets. Attention is called to the fact that, if there had been no increase in United States oil imports during the past five years, foreign production would have increased by 45 percent in contrast to a static level of domestic crude oil production. The need for a less restrictive import policy in the interest of encouraging foreign oil development, therefore, is questioned. Declines since 1956 in the range of 30 percent in domestic exploratory crews, rotary rig activity and wildcat well completions in the United States are cited, together with a decrease of 9 percent in industry employment and increases of 9 to 18 percent in elements of cost. Recognizing that factors other than imports affect the domestic industry, it is concluded that continuing declines in the vigor, capabilities and competitive structure of the domestic industry can be expected unless further import restrictions are imposed. The public interest in assuring adequate domestic supplies is considered in the light of the role of oil and gas as a source of almost three-fourths of U. S. energy requirements and the economic benefits from petroleum production with a value exceeding the combined value of all other minerals in the United States.

A study of high pressure rolls grinding of a number of Australian ores and minerals has been carried out using a pilot-scale machine with rolls 300 mm diameter and 70 mm wide. The results from this study have been used in conjunction with plant survey data to construct computer simulation models of various comminution circuits and these have been used to investigate options for incorporating high pressure grinding rolls into these comminution circuits. Possible rolls options for three of these circuits are presented, and likely energy savings over the existing circuits are discussed together with potential improvements in plant throughput and/or product sizing. A scale-up procedure for predicting full-scale machine performance from small-scale testing is described, and the effects of rolls operating conditions are also discussed.

The main platinum-group metal (PGM) deposit in the Stillwater Complex is associated with a stratiform zone formed by magma mixing. In general, the intrusion is a large, layered body of Archean age which formed by repeated magmatic injections in- to a single, large, hypabyssal magma chamber. The Complex is broadly divided into the lower Ultramafic series of olivine ± orthopyroxene rocks (1000-2000 m thick) and the upper Banded series of predominantly plagioclase-rich rocks (24500 m thick). The latter is further divided into Lower, Middle, and Up- per Banded zones. The Ultramafic series, plus most of the Lower and Upper Banded zones formed from repeated injections of an olivine-saturated magma, the rocks accumulating from the floor upward with a crystallization order of olivine, or- thopyroxene, plagioclase, clinopyroxene. The olivine-bearing subzones of the Middle Banded zone formed predominantly from a magma which crystallized in the sequence plagioclase, olivine, clinopyroxene. Olivine-bearing subzone I, with which the PGM mineralization is associated, occurs generally -400 m above the Ultramafic series-Banded series contact. Ore grade mineralization is usually found in plagioclase or plagioclase-olivine cumulates. The platinum-group elements are associated with disseminated base-metal sulfides dominated by the assemblage, pyrrhotite-chalcopyrite-pentlandite. Olivine-bearing subzone I marks an interruption in the crystallization sequence of the Lower Banded zone, with the reappearance of cumulus olivine and an associated change of the crystallization sequence. These changes indicate the addition and mixing of a secondary magma of the same composition as that which later dominated in the formation of the Middle Banded zone. Characteristics associated with mixing include laterally discontinuous but well-developed layers, xenoliths of ultramafic rocks, and sedimentary-type structures such as slum- ping and graded layering. The influx of new magma caused sulfide saturation by one or more of several chemical changes including addition of sulfur, decrease in oxygen fugacity, decrease in FeO, or increase in SiO2. Once an immiscible sulfide liquid was formed, platinum-group elements were scavenged from the magma by the sulfide liquid and segregated.

Copper refining at Vale Canada (previously known as Inco) has been associated with Ni production. Because Cu and Ni carry risks for adverse health endpoints through inhalation exposure, it is critical that their aerosol levels, and the metallurgical processes through which they enter the air, are understood. Because certain Ni substances have been linked to respiratory cancers, it is also important to characterize the amounts and types of Ni compounds in occupational settings. This paper describes electrorefining and electrowinning operations near Sudbury, Ontario (1930–present), and gives aerosol measurements (1978–present).

IN western Argentina, in the Province of Mendoza and the Territory of Neuquén, there is a series of solid bitumen deposits which are claimed to be the most extensive in the world. In a linear belt 500 km (311 miles) long, roughly paralleling the axis of the Andes but occupying a variety of positions with respect to the orogenic structures, more than 100 outcrops have been reported. Approximately 70 of these have been prospected, and some mining has been planned or attempted for about half this number. Limited tonnage, high sulphur content, inaccessibility, labor shortages, and disastrous fires have taken a heavy toll among these operations, and in 1947, only 4 deposits were being actively mined, but 8 more were being explored and developed with a view to placing them in production. Inasmuch as these deposits are currently yielding a substantial fraction of Argentina's limited domestic supply of solid fuels, a brief account of the deposits and of the small industry based upon them will provide a commentary on Argentina's fuel problem. CHARACTER OF SOLID BITUMENS The solid bitumens of Mendoza and Neuquén are petroleum derivatives, as is indicated by the following ultimate analysis: [CONSTITUENTS PER CENT Hydrogen6.8 Carbon82.4 Nit.rogenI.6 Oxygen2.7 Sulphur2.2 Ash4.3 100.0] In physical appearance they bear a close resemblance to coal and are commonly called carbón. Their specific gravity has an extreme range of 1.10 to 1.777 in 36 samples weighed, but the average is between 1.14 and 1.24. The material is black, lustrous to dull, with blocky to sub-conchoidal fracture. Though brittle, the purest material is softer than anthracite and exhibits slightly more cohesion. This bituminous material is generally known as asfaltita or asphaltite, but definitive chemical studies indicate that the term asphaltite or grahamite can be applied correctly only to the exceptionally pure material of the Auca Mahuida district in Neuquén. Some other name should be used for the chemically variable bitumens found in all other districts, and the designation "asphaltitic pyrobitumen" has been proposed by Carlos A. S. Piscione.1 At the present time these bitumens, are finding favor as solid fuel and as a gas-producing medium. They yield heat values of 8650 to 9750 cal,2 or 14,500 to 16,750 Btu per pound, and in consequence of their excellent heating qualities and the scarcity of imported coal, they are marketed as far away as Buenos Aires at a price of go to 95 pesos, or approximately $22 to 23, per metric ton. In burning, the material swells and decomposes into solid, fluid, and gaseous fractions which burn violently though nonexplosively. Its combustibility has been responsible for disasters and virtually complete destruction at Mina La Esperanza and Mina Santa Marta, and for minor mishaps elsewhere, as at Mina Escondida in August 1947.

The uranium ore processed by the McClean Lake Operation is co-mineralized with niccolite, rammelsbergite and gersdorffite (nickel arsenides). During the strong acid leach process, the majority of the reduced arsenic is oxidized and liberated into the lixiviant solution as As+5. Following uranium extraction, the residual raffinate solution, enriched in As+5, reports to the tailings preparation process. In this process, Fe+3 is first added and mixed with raffinate (pH~1) to achieve a Fe+3/Astotal molar ratio of at least 3. This is followed by two stages of neutralization, using slaked lime to achieve a solution pH of 4, and approximately 7.5, respectively. Synchrotron based x-ray absorption techniques (XANES, EXAFS) applied to neutralized raffinate solids and tailings samples collected from the tailings management facility provide evidence that arsenic has been precipitated as a poorly crystalline form of the mineral scorodite (FeAsO4?2H2O).

One of the most energy-intensive processes for producing submicron range calcite is stirred media mill. In the present work, numerous operating parameters such as solid mass fraction, grinding media size, media filling ratio, and grinding time have been investigated using a vertical type stirred media mill. The results are evaluated on the basis of mean particle size, specific surface area, and specific energy consumption. After conducting this study, optimum experimental conditions found to be as 70% media filling ratio, 25% solid mass fraction, 1 mm grinding media size, and 120 min grinding time. Besides, energy savings up to 22% were achieved with the choice of proper media size.

"The toxicity of arsenic is well known and documented; however, the presence of arsenic in copper electrorefining anodes and electrolytes is critically necessary to produce high-quality cathode. Arsenic as well as antimony and bismuth concentrations vary relative to their concentration in the anode copper received from the smelter. The behaviour and benefits of arsenic in copper electrorefining and the detrimental effects of antimony and bismuth on cathode quality and tankhouse performance are discussed. This will include the minimization and mitigation of problems associated with arsenic, antimony, and bismuth—including cathode contamination, floating slimes, scaling, and anode passivation.RÉSUMÉ La toxicité de l’arsenic est bien connue et documentée; toutefois, la présence d’arsenic dans les anodes de l’électroaffinage du cuivre et dans les électrolytes est d’une nécessité critique pour produire une cathode de grande qualité. Les concentrations en arsenic, ainsi qu’en antimoine et en bismuth varient selon leur concentration dans l’anode de cuivre reçue de la fonderie. Le comportement et les avantages de l’arsenic dans l’électroaffinage du cuivre et les effets indésirables de l’antimoine et du bismuth sur la qualité de la cathode et le rendement des cuves d’électrolyse sont discutés. Chemical mining is the in situ extraction of metals from ores located within the confines of a mine (broken or fractured ore, stope fill, caved material, ores in permeable zones) or in dumps, prepared ore heaps, slag heaps, and tailing ponds on the surface. These materials represent an enormous, untapped, potential source of all types of metals. The field of chemical mining, now in its infancy, encompasses the preparation of ore for subsequent in-place leaching, the flow of solutions and ionic species through rock masses and within rock pores, the leaching of minerals with inexpensive and regenerable lixiviants under prevailing conditions of the in-place environment, the generation and regeneration of such solutions, and the recovery of metals or metal compounds from the metal-bearing liquors. It is not inconceivable that eventually our ore reserves will consist largely of low-grade, refractory, and inaccessible new deposits and low-grade zones near previously worked deposits, caved and gob-filled stopes, waste dumps, tailing ponds, and slag-heaps. Chemical mining promises economic recovery from these types of deposits. Before it can come of age, however, a much better understanding is needed concerning its chemical and physical aspects.

"EMEC Consultants is developing a process to extract oxygen, aluminum and silicon from lunar anorthositic soil. The process will provide oxygen in space for propulsion, aluminum as a structural material, and possibly silicon for the construction of solar cells.The evolution of the process concept in the course of our present NASA-sponsored SBIR effort is discussed. A molten salt electrolysis producing aluminum and oxygen is the central step; inert anode technology is to be employed. Silicon will be produced by reducing the anorthite, CaAI2Si20S' with aluminum. In a steady-state operation, all components of the ore added have to be removed from the process, and the removal of calcium is a major topic of our experimental studies.Utilization of Lunar ResourcesUtilization of lunar resources may play an essential role in the exploration of the solar system and the conquest of space. High costs are involved in overcoming Earth's gravity to supply missions in space. Even at a low projected cost of $ 300 for transporting a pound of payload into Earth orbit -- today's costs are many times higher -- it appears attractive to use resources in space to produce needed materials. Processing of lunar resources on the lunar surface is an obvious possibility.Oxygen is a product of major interest. It is required for support of human life in space. Even greater quantities may be needed for propulsion, to conduct further missions into space. To satisfy this demand for oxygen through lunar processing requires a quite different solution than to supply oxygen on Earth, where oxygen gas is abundant and easy to extract from air or water. On the lunar surface, solid oxide materials have to be used. Hydrogen reduction of ilmenite and subsequent electrolysis of the resulting water is being studied [1]. Other suggestions include fluorination of lunar soil [2], reduction with lithium and electrolytic decomposition of the resulting lithium oxide [3], and aqueous HF leaching [4]."

Reduction of Si from slag to carbon-saturated iron is a very slow reaction. The rate is nearly independent of stirring but is accelerated markedly by increased temperature. In a slag containing 45 pct SiO2, 38 pct CaO, 17 pct Al2O3, the energy of activation is approximately 130 kcal. AT temperatures of 1450" to 1600°C occurring in the hearth of the iron blast furnace, chemical reactions are normally expected to proceed with great rapidity. Many of the reactions of iron making are indeed quite rapid and attain a condition corresponding roughly to a state of equilibrium before metal and slag are tapped from the furnace. The one conspicuous exception is the reaction by which carbon in the coke or metal reacts with silica in the slag to deliver silicon to the metal. From the practical viewpoint the slowness of this reaction is indeed fortunate, for if it were fast enough to reach equilibrium during the time of contact, it would be difficult to produce pig iron of the desired low silicon content. The one other reaction which under certain circumstances can also be very slow is the transfer of sulfur from blast-furnace metal to slag. In their laboratory exeriments on this reaction, Hatch and Chipman found that at least 5 hr were required for the attainment of equilibrium in a small crucible and that the reaction was not accelerated by increasing the rate of stirring. Subsequently it was shown2 that the presence of a reducible oxide MnO greatly inhibited sulfur removal, and finally that SiO2 itself3 under some conditions has sufficient oxidizing Dower to interfere with sulfur transfer. The kinetics of sulfur removal are now rather well understood,4 and it has been shown3,5 that when the silicon content of the metal is high enough to prevent reduction of SiO,, the desulfurizing process is rapid. Thus the observations of slow removal of sulfur are associated with the coincident slow reduction of SiO2, a process which transfers both silicon and oxygen to the metal phase. It is, of course, the oxygen which interferes with sulfur removal. An explanation of the slowness of the silica reduction reaction has not been obtained. The sulfur transfer process has been shown by the authors5 to be at least partially transport-controlled in the absence of interference by silica. Under the experimental conditions. 99 pct of the total transfer at 1600" was accomplished within an hour. Under similar conditions the reduction of silica may not proceed half-way to equilibrium6 in 8 hr. It is scarcely imaginable that silica reduction could be transport-controlled when the slag contains 44 pct SiO2 and the metal about 1.4 pct C. The experiments reported here show definitely that it is controlled by a slow step or steps in the chemical reaction. One might expect to find such a slow step in the breaking of SiO bonds or in the slow removal of oxygen by carbon at the slag-metal or metal-crucible interface or by bubble formation. EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE The experimental procedure used in this investigation was similar to that used in the study of the kinetics of desulfurization.5 A sketch of the graphite crucible and stirrer used in the current work is shown in Fig. 1. The quantity of metal and slag used was adjusted so that the slag-metal interface was located between the top and bottom blades on the stirrer; the top of the slag layer was above the top blade. The stirrer shaft was hollow down to the metal level and served as thermocouple well or optical pyrometer target. Stirring speeds of 0 to 500 rpm were used. A carbon monoxide atmosphere was maintained in the furnace by flushing the gas over the slag surface, except in run No. 220 when it was bubbled

"Respirable high-silica particles from four coal mines. a clay mine and a tunnelling site were analysed for silicon vs aluminum composition by performing scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive X-ray analysis (SEM-EDS) at electron accelerating voltages of 20 kiloelectron volts (keV). The same particles were analysed at 5 keV to determine possible differences in surface vs bulk composition. In some cases high-silica particles exhibited a decrease in the ratio of silicon to aluminium K-alpha line intensities with decreasing electron beam accelerating voltage. This behaviour is consistent with aluminosilicate surface contamination or occlusion of a silica particle. Some 20 high-silica particles were analysed from each of 10 samples. Powdered aluminosilicate glass was used as a control for the behaviour of silica with a homogeneous distribution of aluminium in the particle. Significant differences were found between the control and sample means for an Illinois bituminous coal mine dust, two western and one central Pennsylvania bituminous coal mine dust low-temperature ashes. and a clay mine and mill dust sample, but not for an anthracite coal mine dust and two central Pennsylvania bituminous coal mine dust low-temperature ashes. INTRODUCTIONRESPIRABLE dust quartz content commonly is measured on bulk samples by using i.r. spectroscopy or X-ray diffraction. For research purposes, individual particle-by particle SEM-EDS analysis at 20-30 keV electron beam accelerating potential may be used also. Such measurements have not provided an unambiguous association of quartz content with occupational pulmonary disease prevalence in exposed workers (WALTON et al., 1977). Rather, there is evidence that coal rank modifies the relationship between dust exposure and pneumoconiosis development (WAL TON et al., 1977; ROBOCK and BAUER, 1990; ATTFIELD and MORRING, in press). SEM-EDS analysis was performed to measure the silicon fraction, Si/(Si +Ai), at 20 and at 5 keV on high-silica particles to determine if some respirable quartz particles generated by mining exhibit heterogenous composition with depth (WALLACE et al., 1990), which might affect the bioavailability of the quartz surface."

AN extremely successful meeting, under the joint auspices of the Ohio Section and the Iron and Steel Committee, was held at Cleveland on April 19 and 20, about one-half of those in attendance being from the Cleveland district and the other half from a distance. The morning session on April 19, C. K. Leith presiding, was opened by the presentation of the ad-dress of which an excerpt is printed on the opposite page. In the subsequent discussion R. A. Allen pointed out that the meeting had not been called "to blow the lid off the tariff" since that is only one of the many problems connected with the wisest utilization of man-ganese, and it was the purpose of this meeting to con-sider all those interdependent problems. The purpose of the tariff was to develop an adequate domestic sup-ply, and that result had not been accomplished. An-other important problem, linked with the tariff, is the need for assuring, while we are at peace, an adequate war supply of manganese, and at present this country has no such policy. D. F. Hewett said that his 3-months' trip in Europe last summer had impressed him with the fact that England had once been in the position United States now is in, of being the principal world's producer of all the more important minerals and with a declining reserve had gone on a free-trade basis. No one pointed out that, with the exception of tin, the present relative position of England is due more to an increase in pro-duction in other countries, rather than to a decrease of domestic production. J. Sharshall Grasty referred to recent development work-in Virginia where of 30 per cent easily concen-trated manganese ore about 300,000 tons has been blocked out and possible and probable ore amounting to 700,000 tons more is indicated.

The compound material of Nano-TiO2 Supported on the diatomite was prepared by the hydrolytic method with purified diatomite and TiCl4. The compound material was characterized by SEM, XRD, TEM, EDX, XPS, and the application test of the compound material was studied. The characterization test results showed that the Nano-TiO2 was coated on the surface of diatomite, the crystal of TiO2 is anatase, and the average crystal size is 12 nm. The pore diameter was reduced, but pore volume and surface area of the compound material are increased after Nano-TiO2 Supported on the diatomite. The application test results for treating coking waste water and formaldehyde gas show that the compound material of Nano-TiO2 / diatomite has adsorption and photo-catalytic function and strong degradation performance for phenol and formaldehyde.

The study of cobalt-platinum alloys has been of interest since they represent a class of permanent-magnet material in which the disorder-to-order transformation plays a controlling role. The magnetic properties of alloys in the range 40 to 60 at. pct have been found to be greatly influenced by composition and heat-treatment. The peak properties of 4700 coercive force and 9,000,000 gauss-oersteds energy product were obtained by controlled cooling and aging. These high values combined with ductility and machin-ability give the alloys useful characteristics although their high cost limits their application. THE cobalt-platinum alloys have been of interest in the study of permanent-magnet materials ever since the discovery by Jellinghaus that they had unusually high coerceive-force values.' The high coercive force was associated by Jellinghaus with the disorder-order reaction which occurred in these alloys. This was later verified by Gebhardt and Koster in a detailed study.2 An investigation of the structure, mechanism, and kinetics of the disorder-order transformation and resulting property changes in cobalt-platinum alloys has been in progress for some years. Certain phases of this study related to equilibrium rela- tions, and to the mechanism and kinetics of the ordering reaction have been published previously.3-5 In this paper, the results of the processing and heat-treatment studies on 40 to 60 at. pct CO alloys are presented. The magnetic properties have been found to be influenced greatly by the composition, by the cooling rate from the disordering treatment, and the final ordering time and temperature. Coercive force values, Hc, of 4700 oersteds and energy values, (BH)m, approaching 9,000,000 gauss-oersteds have been obtained by controlled cooling and ordering. I do not think too much emphasis can be placed upon creation of favorable climate for development of foreign mineral resources to feed the hungry maw of our industrialized nation. We have become dependent, not only upon the ten raw products indicated in Mr. Bancroft's article, but upon 71 mineral substances listed by DMPA as in short supply. Forty-four of these are metals, 9 are chemical minerals and 18 are nonmetallic minerals. Of this list only 8 are produced in any large quantity in the United States, and all are vital in peace-time industry. Even more, they are absolutely essential for defense. This represents our present needs. But if our consumption and requirements are projected over the next 25 years as is done by the President's Materials Policy Commission-The Paley Report-our future outlook becomes appalling. The divergence of consumption over production, even allowing for substitution and conservation, will widen in the future. This means our dependence upon foreign raw materials, mainly minerals, will grow. What are the chief foreign sources of minerals for our future needs? They are chiefly Latin America and the dominions and colonies of the Western European nations. The British Commonwealth countries contain in abundance those minerals which the U. S. lacks. Of 32 of the most critical minerals the Commonwealth is deficient in 7 and lacks only 1; whereas the U. S. is deficient in 18. Strikingly, our deficient minerals are abundant in the Commonwealth and several of their deficiencies are in excess in the U. S. Resources of the two nations complement each other. If Europe should be overrun by an unfriendly power that could control the destinies and resources of the European dominions and colonies, our industrial life would be placed in severe jeopardy. Therefore, I heartily endorse Mr. Bancroft's statements regarding the Point IV program, provided the program is wisely administered and implemented. It is from the underdeveloped countries, as pointed out by Mr. Bancroft, that most of our future mineral supplies will have to come. Many of the underdeveloped source countries are African colonies and dominions of Western European nations. Our present aid to Europe, therefore, is not, as many infer, a purely one-sided affair; it safeguards our future industrial development and security. Development aid directly to the underdeveloped countries through a well administered Point IV program, can do much, I believe, to safeguard our prosperity. I regard it as a wise investment for future U. S. mineral needs. Dr. Alan M. The Dome Mine of Timmins Mining company is located in South Porcupine, N.W. Ontario. The orebody being mined partially lies in the No. 3 shaft pillar. Stability analysis has been carried out to establish the influence of nearby mining on ground movement in the shaft vicinity. Mathematical modelling of shaft displacement has been done for stope layout at depths from 180-210 m and distances of 10-50 m from the shaft. Analysis indicated that ground displacement around the shaft is below 1 mm/m and one third less for cut and fill than in the case of open stope mining. The result of the investigation was later confirmed by cut and fill mining of this orebody.

[A survey of the literature relating to ignition temperatures of acetylene-air and acetylene-oxygen mixtures reveals rather wide disagreement in the reported results. In some instances the ignition temperatures of acetylene-air mixtures were reported to be lower then those of acetylene-oxygen mixtures, which is contrary to experience with other combustibles. To clear up some of the reported discrepancies, the authors have investigated the ignition temperatures of acetylene both in air and oxygen, and their results are presented in this report.]

The mining industry is very capital intensive. Competition for shareholder investment has never been greater. Among our challenges is the need to meet shareholder expectations (return on investment), and one area of focus lies in our ability to deliver value on our capital investments. Our ability to meet project expectations affects not only the economics associated with the immediate project but also directly influences our ability to finance future projects. Moreover, our ability as individual companies to attract investor capital is influenced by how we have done overall as an industry, and our industry track record has not been that stellar. With safety, scope, cost, schedule, and quality as guiding principles, our project managers today must address high expectations on every project. This paper examines some items that should be on today's project management checklist. PROJECT ENGINEERING Herbert Hoover, himself a mining engineer, said Engineering is a great profession. There is the fascination of watching a figment of the imagination emerge through the aid of science to a plan on paper. Then it moves to realization in stone or metal or energy. Then it brings jobs and homes to men. Then it elevates the standards of living and adds to the comforts of life. That is the engineer's high privilege.
