Based on the characteristics of typical marine sedimentary phosphate rock in Guizhou, Southwest China, together with the research findings made on the surface electric properties of pure collophanites taken from different areas in pure water and under the action of collectors, a pure minerals flotation test of collophanite was conducted in this research. The differences of collophanite flotation behavior and the effects of the different pH values, varieties, and dosage of collector on flotation separation of collophanite were studied. It is suggested that that in pure water, collophanite had a negative charge within a wide pH range. The electro negativity values of collophanite increased with the addition of collectors GJBW and WF-01. When GJBW and WF-01 were used as collectors, the collophanite was depressed in acid medium, but had a good flotability in basic medium.

The country ranks among world?s top five nations for its commodity reserves of coal and iron ore. Interestingly, only small part of country's landmass has been explored that provides opportunity for future substantial mineral discoveries. India plans to double infrastructure investments to US$ 1trillion. Despite the challenges in infrastructure project implementation, mining sector remains a key driver of demand growth for commodities in the years to come with a good prospect to grow in future.

It is customary to assume that wettability plays an important role in coal flotation, and it is well established that while hydrophobic metallurgical coals float easily, low-rank less hydrophobic coals are difficult to float. However, coal surface wettability plays a dominant role in many coal preparation unit operations. As it will be discussed in this paper, it affects coal-dewatering, selection of flocculants, fine coal pelletization and briquetting, and even coal handleability.

"The extraction of gold in the Philippines has been a significant challenge for the past decades. Around 70-75% of gold mined in the country can be accounted from the small-scale mining industry which primarily use the traditional cyanidation and amalgamation; processes which have been advocated due to its adverse affects to health and environment. To address this challenge, an alternative clean and sustainable technology was developed for the small-scale miners to recover gold and other metal/mineral values efficiently from Philippine ores. An initial survey was conducted and followed through with extensive mineralogical investigations ascertain the best method applicable. It was determined that Philippine gold occur in ore as (1) very fine particles in the microns range, (2) free-milling, which is in abundance, and (3) locked particles with sulfides --- it was concluded that enhanced gravity concentration and flotation are viable alternatives. A comprehensive test regime was followed to check the response of the ores obtained from different small-scale mining districts across the country. It was shown conclusively that the gold ores respond positively, with recoveries using gravity concentration and flotation of at least 95% and 88%, respectively; exceeding the nominal recoveries using cyanidation or amalgamation. A specific process flow was designed for each type of ore with customized parameters. It was determined that while capital expenditure of implementing these alternative processes is higher than what is currently being used, the operational aspects show that it is much more economical to apply enhanced gravity and flotation. It should be noted that the process developed addresses the critical issue of environmental costs which should be more than enough to justify the shift from the current to the novel and sustainable technologies."

"Historically the focus at the mineral processing sites has been to improve the production operations, while little focus has been set on how factors, such as the quality of water used in the process affects the metal recovery. Simultaneously increasing public pressure and water scarcity is driving the mining industry to recycle more water back to the process, which in turn leads to accumulation of impurities within the recycled water. This paper presents a concept for a systematic approach on targeting the impurities that have a negative effect on the metal recovery at the flotation circuit by using a novel solution called Process Water Recycling Plant (PWRP). These plants are designed with specific ore type in mind. PWRP produces cost-effectively process water to different target qualities, especially for flotation purposes enabling higher and more stable flotation recovery. It consists of pre-designed and standard water treatment units for a wide range of volumes. The application-specific configuration of units is governed by the water quality requirements, and can be designed according to specific customer needs. Testing has been carried out in order to investigate, which recycling water impurities affect the different ore types and how the metal recovery in flotation is affected as a consequence of the poor-quality water. The results indicate that every ore type is impacted differently and without a good understanding on how the water quality impacts the process performance, adverse effects on the flotation recovery can occur.INTRODUCTION With a focus on where water is used within the mineral processing, it has become evident that even though water is used in several different processes, majority of the water losses within the site occur at the tailings processing and the tailings storage facility. New tailings management technologies that can increase the recovery of water are actively being developed, but the key to improving the efficiency of water use and reducing the operational risks lies in closing the water loops and increasing the slurry density in the tailings processing. With this shift from conventional tailings technologies towards paste and dry stacking, water efficiency is vastly improved, but it might in turn lead to process water challenges with impurities, reagents and fines being recycled and accumulated within the production processes."

"The pressures on mining and minerals education at the tertiary level are well known. Within Australia, for example, the number of undergraduate mining engineering courses with 30 or more students in each year has reduced to three (University of Queensland, University of New South Wales and Curtin University). Similar declines in both student numbers and participating institutions are evident in many other parts of the world, and notably in USA and most countries in Europe.An in depth study of the Australian sector was conducted in 1997/1998, resulting in the Back from the Brink report (Carter 1998). The Australian situation was summarised as follows.Australia’s minerals education system, in its current form, is fragile and is in no position to seize the opportunity (i.e. world leadership in minerals education) and is more likely to succumb to the threat.Current trends include:- an acute shortage of talented academic staff, as a result of University remuneration packages having become hopelessly uncompetitive with those in the minerals industry;- small student populations and high relative costs, making mineral specific courses vulnerable to closures, when Universities are under extreme cost pressures; this situation will be exacerbated if enrolments drop in response to, say, a cyclical down turn in the industry; and- under-resourcing of minerals departments because of their comparatively small size, making these departments incapable of delivering top class teaching in all aspects of their courses, despite being excellent in some areas.Most of the Australian issues identified above have direct parallels in other countries.The most common response of institutions to the threats is to seek strength, and in some cases survival, through various forms of linkages and networks. A number of these associations, which are frequently defensive in nature, are outlined in the paper."

The occurrence of Enargite (Cu3AsS4) in hydrometallurgical plants bears a number of challenges. One question lies on how Copper and Arsenic can be selectively extracted from the solid surface structure when immersed in aqueous solution. The leaching of Enargite in ambient conditions has been extensively studied; nevertheless, challenges regarding the process kinetics and surface structures enabling the extraction process remain ill-understood. Prior knowledge indicates that different conditions of pH, Eh, temperature, speciation of the aqueous phase or variations of these parameters defines the overall rate at which metals and other elements will be transferred to the solution. One aspect that the research studies have seldom addressed involves studying the main features of the surface structures formed during the leaching process at the outmost surface atomic layer. Such structures will mediate between the solid bulk and the solution to undertake subsequent stages of leaching process. The aim of this research work is to critically analyze the state of the art of Enargite electrochemistry from the mediator formation-dissolution mechanisms standpoint occurring at the mineral-solution interface. The most probable mediator species reported in the literature were found to be: Arsenolite and Sulfur (acidic media), Covellite (acidic and alkaline media) and Tenorite (alkaline media). As a result of this analysis, it was observed that the surface speciation was not in full agreement with the previous knowledge suggested to explain Enargite leaching reactions and, therefore, modified Eh-pH diagrams are presented. The acquired insights on the surface structures rising from the Enargite-aqueous solution interactions is further revised to provide new experimental protocols towards selectively separating Copper and Arsenic through hydrometallurgical paths.

A new optical sorting system based on a complex image analysis and high definition imaging has been developed by Comex. The image analysis is based on high definition cameras of different types and advanced filtration tools for verification of waste particles. Different mineral properties are used to identify the processed material. The system is further combined with a high speed rejection mechanism based on FPGA technology and operating in real time conditions. This provides a minimal error when removing waste particles from the sorted material.

"Have you been on a mine site? This question was posed by Emeritus Professor Alban Lynch to Higher Degree by Research (HDR) Students from the Sustainable Minerals Institute - Julius Kruttschnitt Mineral Research Centre (SMI-JKMRC) in the Student Technical Presentations in 2015. From that question, five HDR students from SMI-JKMRC organised a placement on mine sites in Mexico. The SMI-JKMRC is well known for its tradition to provide their students with opportunities to enhance and test their skills in mineral processing plants. The Student Venture became a short internship for HDR students which had the objective of establishing collaboration with mining companies in Australia and overseas, and of providing a unique experience for the HDR students in regard to their training, professional development, networking and cultural interchange. In return for the companies’ support, the students conducted plant audits to evaluate the process performance thereby providing valuable data to the host company. The 2016 Student Venture was held at the Grupo Peñoles & Grupo Fresnillo in Mexico, in which three mine sites received five HDR students from JKMRC and one young researcher from Universidad de Guanajuato (UG). This paper describes the positive outcomes for the mining company and the students for this experience. The Venture was considered very successful, as it provided valuable training for the students as well as in depth information about the operation of the comminution and flotation circuits of the host sites for the Grupo Peñoles & Grupo Fresnillo. The experience also provided an opportunity for an exchange of knowledge between the HDR students and the site personnel from the host operations. The indication of the success of the experience for all involved was the support of the host company in future student internships."

"The goal of prospecting operations in the Republic of Altay was to locate gold-sulfide-quartz mineralization. For this purpose we applied the technology of electromagnetic sounding and induced polarization (EMS-IP). These operations resulted in localizing promising sites with presence of sulfidization. The EMS-IP method proved to be highly efficient amongst other prospecting methods targeted at recognizing zones of sulfide mineralization making up 91%, considering that in more than half cases the ore intervals were the case. In the Yakutian diamondiferous province the EMS-IP technology was approbated during three field seasons to accomplish the assignments on searching for kimberlite bodies under conditions of various geological types. As a result, the reference objects were distinguished, and geoelectric parameters of kimberlite pipes of explosion were defined.INTRODUCTION In the time span 2015-2016 in Gorny Altay the EMS-IP technology was approbated in the Novokuznetsk area. The on-land areal geophysical survey was performed by EMS-IP method applied to identify, outline and locate promising sites with Au-Ag-bearing polymetallic mineralization within surveyed areas. Compared to the hosting rocks, the sulfides contained in polymetallic mineralization are typified by low specific electrical resistivity (SER) and high polarization. The areal survey conducted via EMS-IP method provided spatial characteristics of searched object. From July 2016 to August 2017 our expedition group carried out serial test works and laboratory investigations intending to define performance capabilities of EMS-IP technology in searching for kimberlite bodies under conditions of diverse geological types. The prerequisites for serial work were operations accomplished at the «Listvenichny» site lying 35 km away from Mirny town in the Sakha Republic (Yakutia), where the EMS-IP technology was probed for locating position and measuring geoelectric parameters of tuff pipe «Buardakhsky». After successful completion of operations it was decided to evaluate geoelectric parameters of kimberlite pipes of explosion."

"Power ultrasound may be used in the processing of mineral suspensions to clean the particle surfaces of oxidation products and fine coatings, mainly through the large, but very localised forces, produced by cavitation, which is the formation and sudden collapse of bubbles in a fluid. Cavitation occurs preferentially at solid surfaces in a liquid: at container walls, inserted objects or suspended particles. "The aim of the study is to develop and scientifically justify a new adaptive approach to the separating processes of deep and complex processing technogenic mineral raw materials. Technogenic mineral resources as a waste of mining and processing industry are mostly complex objects that have specific features of material composition and technological properties and make it processing ineffective with traditional schemes of mineral raw materials enrichment. Mineral wastes are regarded in this study as a complex object with a large number of signs in conditions of uncertain environment and object. However, adaptation is regarded as the process management system’ adaptation to the specific the properties of the object and the environment that has several hierarchical levels corresponding to different stages in the management of complex object. An adaptive approach is considered as a methodological basis of multivariate schemes for opening the mineral resources and creating mechanisms that could transfer these potential technogenic resources to the actual that significantly expand the mineral resource base of the country's black, coloured, rare, noble metals and construction materials. In this case, potentially the solution to the most pressing social and environmental problems associated with the adverse effects of past economic activity simultaneously with the commercial objectives. This approach to the wastes mining and related processing manufacturers meets the core idea of sustainable development as the balance of interests of State, society, business, private enterprise and each person in the areas of rational use of resources, economic efficiency and environmental safety. On the example of metal-containing raw materials in the form of slags of ferrous and nonferrous metallurgy, ferrous metallurgy sludge, mature fine tailings, the application of adaptive approach illustrates to the development of technologies of its deep and complex processing as phased, thoughtful movement from a comprehensive study of technogenic raw materials to build optimal topologies of technological schemes for processing the mineral wastes. INTRODUCTION Involving the Russian economy in the system of global economic relations significantly changes the nature of the country's competitiveness in the development of the world market and urgently requires competent management of its own natural and mineral resources. The latter at the present time in real economic processes cease to be a passive material foundation and become the producing basis in the production processes in the status of so-called natural capital. Introduced in the field of economic theory at the end of the 20th century, this term means both the flow of natural services and real natural resources. Consequently, natural objects, which act as natural resources of a certain production, today must necessarily be evaluated in a strategic sense. Modern standards of sustainable development presuppose that the economy should equally be oriented to balance the interests of the state, society, business, individual enterprise and each person in the spheres of rational use of resources, preservation of healthy ecosystems, ensuring well-being, high quality of life and environmental safety of not only the current generation, but also respect for the rights of future generations, that is, intergenerational equality. Most types of minerals are classified as non-renewable resources, therefore resource-saving in the sphere of mineral and raw materials complexes is one of the most important factors-indicators characterizing the degree of approximation to the model of rational subsoil use, and, consequently, sustainable development (State Report, 2017)."

Novel solvent extraction technologies in recent decades have made attempts to show the problems in applying this method for dilute solutions and find appropriate solutions to overcome them. Improving the equipments performance used in this method for dilute solutions, cause development of usable resources and reduction of operational costs. Furthermore, appropriate conditions provide for using dilute solutions produced in various industries as a new source of valuable elements. Thus, this proposal can be a very good solution for treatment of these solutions and reduce the environmental impacts associated with them. The purpose of this study is to introduce a new method of Column Floto Extraction (CFE), which has been invented in this regard. In this method, using spargers similar to Jameson cell downcomer in floatation process, the organic phase bubble dispersion has been used instead of its drop dispersion in aqueous phase for the two-phase mixture operation. This operation mode has caused a higher extraction percentage of solute in high aqueous to organic ratios due to enhancement of contact area. In this study, in addition to explaining the advantages and features of this method, we have dealt with its design and performance mode.

"The most important metals in the jewelry sector are undoubtedly gold and silver. As a result of workmanship work done in the jewelry industry, the tiny metal and jewel fragments and metallic powders are scattered. Given the prices of gold and silver on the market, the dust that emanates from these workshops is of great importance. Gold recycling has become as important as raw material production within the mass market and gold production industry. In 2016, 29% of the world gold supply has been obtained through recycled gold production. Waste derived from jewelry activity is included in this category, and represents an essential component of this percentage. In the scope of this study, the recovery possibilities of Au and Ag from jewelry sweeps floor sample was investigated using flotation method. In the experiments, optimum pH value, particle size, the effect of dispersant, type and amount of reagent were investigated. As a result of these studies, it was determined that the optimum pH value was 6.5 and the particle size was -212 microns. It was observed that the most suitable reactive combination was Aero 242 and Aerophine 3418A and Na2SiO3 has no positive effect on recovery of Au and Ag as a dispersant agent. As a result of tests, a final concentrate containing 268 ppm Au and 2122 ppm Ag was obtained with 81.4% and 74.5% recovery respectively. INTRODUCTION Because of the softness of pure gold, it is usually alloyed with base metals for use in jewelry, altering its hardness and ductility, melting point, color and other properties. On the other hand, gold has some special chemical properties which in normal conditions, don’t react with water, dry or humid air, oxygen, ozone, nitrogen, hydrogen, fluorine, iodine, sulfur and hydrogen. "Flotation is a basic process of beneficiation of mineral raw materials which requires very fine grinding for liberation of valuable minerals. Probably flotation will also play this role in the future. In the case of flotation of difficult-to-upgrade non-ferrous ores, currently one of the most important trends in technology development is solution to fine grinding even down to a few micrometers in size and elaboration of effective flotation technology for such fine particles. Both industrial flotation data and many investigators suggest that the best results of flotation of ore minerals are observed for particle size range from 20 to 100 µm. Many base metal ores require grinding below 20, or even 10 µm, to liberate valuable ore components. However, industrial flotation of particles below 20 µm in size creates numerous challenges. Further complications may be caused by a complex nature of the ore, especially when the valuable metals are present in several different sulfide minerals. This problem occurs in the case of the Polish sedimentary copper ores. In the present study, flotation of the ore of different size distributions and degrees of grinding, having the size of particles below 25 µm, was investigated. The behavior of different sulfide minerals naturally present in the ore was analyzed. The best results of flotation tests were obtained for the ore ground down to 95% below 25 µm. Narrow size fractions -10; 10-15; 15-25; 25-40, and +40 µm were separated using special micro-sieves and mineralogical as well as chemical analyses of each size fraction were carried out for monitoring the behavior of the fine sulfide particles. Differences between flotation of chalcocite-digenite, bornite, chalcopyrite, covellite, galena and pyrite-marcasite naturally occurring in the ore were described. The role of different particle sizes in flotation performance of each mineral was also presented."

"With depletion of global ore deposits, there has been an increasing industry trend towards mining of lower average grade deposits in order to meet global demand, resulting in increased processing cost, energy usage and water usage. Consequently the industry is seeking pre-concentration technologies to reduce costs, increase production in existing operations and potentially enable the economic mining of previously uneconomical deposits. This pre-concentration can also advantage downstream processing and metal recovery. CSIRO has developed a large scale magnetic resonance based technology for the rapid quantitative detection of selected copper, iron and arsenic minerals in bulk ore. The technology is suited to measurement on large primary conveyors for enabling “pod” based sorting. The approach used in high tonnage sorting is to not sense and divert individual rocks, but to instead measure groups of rocks (“pods”) carried continuously on a single primary conveyor that can be diverted by conventional mechanical means. Bulk ore sorting operates by removing barren ore pods from a stream of crushed ore based on a bulk sensor measurement at a pod resolution of ~1 – 10 tonnes. The sorting process is based on the intrinsic variability of grade during the mining process that often occurs at the few tonne scale, and for instance, is common in many porphyry copper deposits. The MR technology has been proven in the laboratory for a wide range of copper, arsenic and iron minerals. A full scale prototype sensing system has been demonstrated in a trial at an Australian copper mine. Implementation trials of commercial MR based bulk sorting systems are progressing during 2018.INTRODUCTION An increasing trend in the mining industry is the exploitation of larger lower-grade deposits to meet global demand. Low-grade deposits involve increased processing cost, energy and water usage and increased tailings. There is therefore growing interest in technologies that enable more efficient extraction of low grade deposits. Water intensity of mining activities in a context of water scarcity, and the environmental and health implications of mine tailings are existing challenges, which are only made worse by the progression to lower grade orebodies. There is therefore also an interest in safer, cleaner and less wasteful extraction and production to ensure community well-being and environmental resilience."

The key problems of current flowsheets and equipments are analyzed. A new steel slag's crushing flowsheet whose key equipments are the improved inertia cone crusher and inertia vibrating jaw crusher is proposed. An advanced two stage open-circuit crushing method is adopted in the flowsheet, with 90% of particle size crushing under 6mm. Using inertia vibrating technology and selective crushing principle the crushers can realize steel slag separating fully into steel and slag and with flexible transmission mechanism the crusher can be protected when iron lump is passing. The flowsheets can enhance the recovery of metal greatly, and expand the application range of tail slag and added value.

"The present paper contains study results of gold morphology and grain size distribution in flotation concentrates produced from original ore samples from deposits of different genesis. Pre-concentration methods were used with selective dissolution of rock minerals and mineral heavy medium separation to obtain statistically valid data on gold grain size and morphology in concentration products. Special attention is given to study of flash flotation concentrates that is mainly used for coarse gold, underextracted in gravity circuit. Analysis of geometrical optics has allowed to establish that during flash flotation gold grains more than 150 µm can be extracted from 10 to 35%, and in some cases single gold grains above 300 µm. INTRODUCTION Distinctive features of gold that have a significant impact, and in some cases, decisive influence on its recovery into saleable products are mineral shape, grain size and morphology of metal particles, paragenetic associations of gold. Peculiar feature of coarse gold is its easy extraction during grinding from associated mineral components like quartz, sulphide and other and almost complete recovery into gravity concentrates (Lodeischikov V.V., 1997). Morphology of native gold is so diverse that different gold grains are better extracted using different methods of concentration. Compacted and rounded particles are easily processed using gravity concentration but low cyanidable and hard to process using flotation. On the contrary, lamellar, flake, dendrite and capillary aggregates of high specific surface are easily cyanidable and under definite conditions it has strong floatability (Lodeischikov V.V., 1997). Flotation of gold-containing sulphide minerals and free gold takes place simultaneously during flotation concentration. In case of low-sulphide ores, native gold takes the basic load, having the high density (15.6 to 18.3 g/cm3, for pure gold – 19.3 g/cm3) it has limited size and morphology for successful flotation. It is known that flake gold and fine-grained gold up to 0.1 mm are easily extracted (Lodeischikov V.V., 1997). Authors of the present paper performed a study of gold granulometry and morphology in flotation concentrates produced from gold-containing ores from two deposits of different types: gold-copper oxidized hematite ores and low-sulphide gold-quartz ores. Ores are different by both host rock composition, mineralogical and petrographic features, gold grade in mineral assemblage and morphology and size of precious metal. Common for both ore types is low-sulphide content and presence of free gold."

This paper presents a new process for producing industrial magnesium sulphate using waste water from titanium white plant and magnesium oxide from calcinations of magnesite ore as raw materials. With the laboratory experimental equipment, the waste liquid and magnesium dioxide react effectively at ambient temperature and under atmosphere pressure. Via the press filter, a clear liquid predominately containing magnesium sulphate is obtained. It is further evaporated and crystallized by cooling, separated by centrifuge and dried. Consequently a high quality of industrial magnesium sulphate is achieved as the final product. In the course of process, as the majority of valuable component (SO42-) is recovered in the final product, most of impurities from waste acid is being removed into the by- product. With the simple operational process, it is possible for titanium dioxide plant to resolve the environmental problem completely and benefit from the industrial magnesium sulphate product as well. The filter cakes containing valuable elements such as Mg, S, Fe, Mn, V, Ti are by-product proposed to be used for manufacture of agriculture fertilizer particularly for peanut planting.

In the current climate of changing the approach to mining and treatment of mineral resources, processing technologies are being developed that require little maintenance and are economically as well as ecologically sustainable. This may also involve the development of entirely new ways of ore processing. One promising approach is to use bioleaching for the pretreatment of gold refractory ores to cyanidation. Capital costs for vat bioleaching of concentrates and ores are very high and cannot be applied for small or medium-size deposits. IRGIREDMET JSC carried out bio heap leaching test work on refractory ore samples from three Russian deposits. Following this biological treatment a combination of flotation, vat bioleaching, and cyanidation are used to recover gold. After heap bioleaching, gold recovery was 75-80 per cent. It was found that efficiency of heap bioleaching process depends on ore feed size. High duration of this process is another feature and it lasts for about a year. This process can be also used for carbonates in the combination with other process during which acid generation occurs. The results of our studies have shown that this technology is amenable for refractory gold ores. Its introduction allows an increase gold recovery and to solve a number of environmental problems.
