As amostras foram caracterizadas por difração de raios-X para avaliação da estrutura cristalina obtida. A fotodegradação do glicerol (utilizado como agente de sacrifício) foi avaliada pela técnica de cromatografia líquida de alta eficiência.

"Nanocrystalline silver bulk material with average grain size of 20.3 nm was prepared by warmvacuum- compaction method. The as-prepared nanocrystalline silver was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), differential scanning calarmeutry analysis (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TG), and 6157 type Electrometer test, respectivily. The experimental results show that the average grain size and microstrain of the nanocrystalline silver are 20.3 nm and 0.088%. The melting point and melting enthalpy are 1228.7 Kand 82.34 Jig, which are lower than that of coarse-grained silver by 6 Kand 22.6 Jig, respectively. The electrical resistivity of nanocrystlline silver increases with higher temperature when the range of temperature is between 233K and 293K. The electrical resistivity at 293 K is 1.475xlO -7 Q·m, which is higher than that of coarsegrained silver by a factor of 9.IntroductionN anocrystaline ( nc) materials or nano structured ( ns) materials are three-dimensional (3 D) bulk materials with average grain size typically smaller than 100 nm. Ne materials have been of great interest for their unique properties, such as superior tensile strength [1-2], high microhardness [3- 4], superplasticity [5-6], magnetically quasi-isotropic [7-8] , and so on, making them one of the most promising nano-scale materials with wide applications. Ne materials with average grain size of 5-10 nm were firstly fabricated by Gleiter et al. [9] in 1980s, using inert gas condensation (IGC) method. Unfortunately, the large surface to volume ratio creates a high surface energy component in the total free energy of the system and results in a metastable state in the materials. Therefore, due to the signfica nt disordered grain boundary regions, nanomaterials are thermally unstable and are subjected to a strong driving force for grain growth. The grain growth even occurred at room temperature [10].The conflict or deviation of measured date, e.g. strength, microhardness, thermal stability, partly due to the grain boundary ratio or the distribution of grain size, and partly derived from imperfections such as voids and microcracks while earlier processing techniques are known to result in incomplete dens:fication [11-12]. Therefore, the higher quality samples produced in subsequently years still show such a general trend."

"In-situ processes have emerged as new and promising techniques for metal matrix composite fabrication. They offer significant technical and economic advantages over conventional processing. One of the in-situ processing routes that have been used is reactive free sintering of a mixture of powder reactants. However, materials synthesised via this route are always porous because of density differences between reactants and products. An example are the porous Al/(TiB2+Ah03) MMCs obtained by heating powder mixtures of Al+ Ti02+B with Ti02 and B in stoichiometric ratios for forming TiB2• In this study, porous Al/(TiB2+Ah03) composites were further processed by hot-pressing at temperatures above 600°C. This processing cycle was designed so that the composites could be densified. Furthermore, the reaction kinetics of the in-situ processing are studied by means of DSC analysis measured at different heating rates. The activation energies of the three intermediate steps that are involved in the reactive processing for preparing AV(TiB2+Alz03) MMCs are determined to be 923 kJ/mole, 241 kJ/mole and 235 kJ/mole respectively.XRD proved that the hot-pressed products consist of Al, TiB2 and Al203- Properties of the products are assessed by microstructural characterisation (LOM, SEM and EDS), microhardness, Young's modulus and bending tests. The results show that good microstructures, elastic properties and strengths, as well as acceptable ductilities were achieved. For the composition 79.74wt% Al-15.95wt% Ti0z-4.31wt% B, after the reactive free-sintering and hot-pressing cycles, Young's modulus is 105 GPa, bending strength is 509 MPa and maximum strain is 5.0%; for composition 88.73wt% Al-8.87wt% Ti0z-2.40wt% B, they are 89 GPa, 311 MPa and 8.2% respectively. It can be seen that the properties of products can be tailored by adjusting the relative amounts of reactants in green samples. Furthermore, for comparison reasons, Al and a binary system Al-Ti02 were identically processed as the ternary systems. Their microstructures and properties were studied."

"Over the last 15 years, there has been a number of plant scale sulfide mineral flotation tests organized by this author specifically aimed at understanding how flotation rate varies with reagent type and dosage. With regard to the Interaction of collector dosage, particle size, and frother type, the eight specific trends listed in the paper (Illustrated with data from two specific case studies) are qualitatively the same for almost all plants studied in some depth. The Interaction of flotation rate K and equilibrium (Infinite time) recovery R in the plant has been denoted as the R/K trade-off. The effect of collector dosage on the rate of flotation of specific particle size intervals is particularly interesting and once understood, is quite useful In understanding how industrial flotation plants respond to changing reagent type and dosage. The location and magnitude of the R/K trade-off can be different for various ores and various plant configurations, but the RIK trade-off is almost always present. The purpose of this paper is to clearly describe and illustrate the nature of this very Important flotation system Interaction so that operating engineers have a starting reference point for beginning successful plant Improvement studiesIntroductionIt is well recognized by industrial froth flotation plant operators that improving existing sulfide circuit performance is often difficult due to the self-compensating systems nature of the froth flotation system, e.g. Klimpel (1988, 1989, 1995). Extensive plant testing with existing and new reagents by this author throughout the world has clearly shown that one of the more important self-compensating mechanisms is the Interaction between collector dosage, frother type, and particle size. The term self-compensation in flotation simply means that as the plant operator consistently changes one parameter in the same direction, the nature of the froth flotation system Is such that the circuit will eventually begin to resist this controlled parameter change by automatic (uncontrolled) changes In other parameters and the overall circuit performance will go through a maximum or minimum (hence causing the operator to stop the parameter change)."

Erodibility of reclaimed surface mine soils is a subject in need of quantification. Effects of soil erosion from reclaimed areas may damage surrounding areas and the quality of water in nearby streams and lakes. It may also reduce the potential productivity of the reclaimed site. A study was conducted to determine erodibilities of different reclamation treatments and a nearby unmined soil at three Indiana strip mine sites. A rainfall simulator was used to artifically erode plots con¬structed within seven treatment categories and the unmined soil. Soil erodibility was assessed in terms of the Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE) K factor. Values for K calculated from field data were compared to values predicted from independently measured soil properties. Differences in soil erodibility between treatments were site specific. Unmined soil had the highest calculated erodibility at one site but at two other sites soils having reclaimed A horizons were highest. Shaley overburden treatments had the lowest calculated erodi¬bility. Predicted soil erodibility was usually lower than that calcu¬lated from field data. Site specific slope gradient factors (S) were developed for reclaimed A horizon treabnents. This was done because the USLE S factor overestimated the measured soil loss at steeper slopes.

Secondary materials, that contain relatively high concentrations of platinum group metals, (PGMs) are treated in copper smelting process. The PGMs lost in the slag is increasing with increasing quantities of scrap treated amount. To determine the portion of the PGMs chemically dissolved and that associated with the mechanically trapped matte in the slag will be a key factor to improve the recovery of those metals. An experimental study was carried out to determine the distribution of palladium between the FeOx–SiO2 slag and the liquid Cu2S–FeS matte at 1573 K and a fixed partial pressure of SO2 of 0.1 atm. It was found that the distribution ratios are around 10−3 for platinum and palladium. The distribution ratios show a tendency to increase when the grade of matte is increased above 60 mass% Cu. In addition, the solubility of platinum in FeOx–SiO2 slag equilibrated with a pure palladium and the Pd-Cu alloy was determined at 1573 K and the range of oxygen partial pressure from 10−9 to 10−7 atm. The solubility of palladium in the slag tends to increase with increasing oxygen partial pressure and activity of CuO0.5 in the slag.

Este estudo teve por objetivo avaliar a soldabilidade a pontos entre os aços 22MnB5 e Dual Phase da classe de 800 MPa de limite de resistência (DP800), ambos com 1,8 mm de espessura. A intenção foi determinar os parâmetros adequados de soldagem para esse tipo de junta soldada, que vem sendo progressivamente utilizada na estrutura de veículos automotores, em virtude do uso crescente de peças fabricadas a partir do aço 22MnB5, submetido ao processo de estampagem a quente (hot stamping). Foram avaliadas as propriedades mecânicas através de ensaios estáticos de cisalhamento e de tração cruzada, em juntas soldadas produzidas a partir da variação do tempo de soldagem e da força aplicada pelos eletrodos. Percebeu-se que as juntas confeccionadas com o tempo de soldagem com múltiplos pulsos (9/2/9/2/9 ciclos) e a força de 5,0 kN obtiveram os melhores resultados em cisalhamento. Em contrapartida, os corpos de prova produzidos com a força de 6,5 kN atingiram os maiores valores em tração cruzada. Independentemente dos parâmetros aplicados, todas as condições avaliadas permitiram alcançar o valor mínimo de carga de ruptura necessária para garantir a qualidade de uma junta soldada a ponto entre os aços avaliados.

High-Mg-content concentrates are usually treated in Jinchuan flash smelting Furnace. Because the viscosities of high-Mg-content slag is very high, the operation of flash smelting becomes very difficult. To solve this problem, the viscosities of the semi-synthesized FeO-MgO-SiO2 slag of different compositions were measured. The results showed that when in the slag the weight percentage of MgO [w(MgO)] is 6-10%, the ratio of the weight percentage of iron to that of Si02, w(Fe)/w(Si02) is 1.1-1.4 and the temperatures are within 1473-1773K, the slag viscosities increased with the increase of W(MgO) and w(Fe)/w(SiO,). When w(Mgo)<6%, the smelting temperature should be controlled at I 300°C in order to to keep the smooth operation. When w(MgO)>10%, the temperature should be kept above I 633K. When the content of MgO is higher, a lower viscosity slag can be produced by decreasing the ratio of w(Fe)/w(SiO,). The appropriate ratio of w(Fe)/w(SiO,) for Jinchuan flash smelting furnace is about 1.2.

Iron removal by precipitation as jarosite from Fe-Ni-Co sulfate solutions, (synthetic or real, resulting from laterites leaching) has been investigated. Precipitation was carried out at 95 C, and at an initial pH 1.6, which was either kept constant with CaCO3 or Li2CO3 additions, or left to drift with the evolution of the reaction to lower values. The precipitation of K-, NH4- and Na- jarosite was initially examined using synthetic solutions. In all cases, hydronium ions were incorporated into the precipitate as well. Residual iron in solution was lower (0.2-1 g/1) and equilibrium was achieved faster (within 4-8 h) when precipitating K¬jarosite at constant pH, using CaCO3 for neutralization. Nickel and cobalt losses were small. Na- jarosite precipitation was also studied from real solutions with high initial iron content, under constant pH=1.5, controlled with CaCO3 additions, and it was shown that low residual iron concentration in solution (0.3-0.5 g/1) can be achieved again, with relatively small nickel and cobalt losses. The thickening and filtration characteristics of the precipitates were excellent in all cases examined.

"SynopsisSilicon carbide nanopowders were produced using a microwave-induced plasma process operating at 15 kPa absolute and at atmospheric pressure. Methyltrichlorosilane (MTS) served as precursor, due to its advantageous stoichiometric silicon-to-carbon ratio of unity, allowing it to act as both carbon and silicon source. Argon served as carrier gas, and an additional hydrogen feed helped ensure a fully reducing reaction environment. The parameters under investigation were the H2:MTS molar ratio and the total enthalpy. The particle size distribution ranged from 20 nm upwards, as determined by SEM and TEM micrographs. It was found that an increase in enthalpy and a higher H2:MTS ratio resulted in smaller SiC particle sizes. The adhesion of particles was a common occurrence during the process, resulting in larger agglomerate sizes. SiC layers were deposited at 15 kPa with thicknesses ranging from 5.8 to 15 µm.IntroductionIt is well known that methyltrichlorosilane (CH3SiCl3 or MTS) decomposes to form silicon carbide (SiC) and hydrogen chloride (HCl) as shown in Equation [1]. The Bureau of Mines investigated electrolytic techniques for preparing diborides of the group IV B metals. TiB2, ZrB2, and HfB2 were electro-deposited from their respective oxides dissolved in borate-chloride-cryolite electrolytes. Titanium diboride was also electrodeposited from rutile (Ti02) dissolved in a Na2,B4O7-Na2C03-Na3A1F6-NaC1 electrolyte at 1,050° C; 14 kW-hr were required to produce 1 pound of TiB2. Major impurities in the TiB2 produced in a 10-deposition cycle experiment, in weight-percent, were Al, 0.2; Cr, 0.3; Fe, 0.1; V, 0.3; C, 1.4; and 0, 1.0. Zirconium diboride was electro-deposited from zircon (ZrSiO4) dissolved in a Na2B407-NaOH-Na3A1F6-NaCl-NaF electrolyte at 1,050° C. The ZrB2 produced in a 10-deposition cycle experiment contained the following impurities in weight-percent; Fe, 0.1; Si, 0.5; C, 0.3; and 0, 0.6. Energy required to produce 1 pound of ZrB2 was 9.3 kW-hr.

Segregation studies in ternary systems of glass ballotini, iron ore and coke particles (with size range of 1-8 mm in each) in filling and emptying a laboratory size Paul Wurth hopper are described. In-bin segregation is shown to be a function of the position in the hopper, the nature of the material and the feed composition. The in-bin results are correlated by the equation C = C0k, where C and C0 are the size compositions (wt per cent) in the hopper and feed respectively, and k is an experimentally obtained segregation constant. The results of now pallern measurements show that material discharges from the hopper according to the sequence; core now - wall now - scaffold now, where the latter represents stagnant material at the hopper wall that discharges last. Size segregation in the discharge stream from the hopper is shown to be a function of in-bin segregation and hopper now pallern. A method of predicting discharge segregation from these two sets of data is suggested. The results of the model studies are also compared with industrial data and these show satisfactory agreement. Discussion of the hitherto ignored effect of size segregation on hopper now rates, stoppages and other operating problems is also included.

THE literature contains three previous studies of the chemical activities of Cd-Mg alloys: Trumbore, Wallace, and craigl obtained chemical activities of magnesium at 543" by performing electromotive-force measurements; Borg and irchenall calculated activities at 590°K based on vapor-pressure measurements of cadmium over Mg-Cd alloys by the Knud-sen effusion method; and Terpilouski and arcka measured the chemical activities of magnesium in the liquid state by means of electromotive-force measurements. In this study the vapor pressure of cadmium was determined over nine solid Cd-Mg alloys in the temperature range 571" to 697°K by the Knudsen effusion method. This study was prompted by the lack of precision in the data reported by Borg and Birchenall. Knudsen cells used during this study were fabricated from 0.020-in.-thick tantalum tubing. The tops and bottoms of the cells were cut from 0.010-in.-thick tantalum sheet, press-fitted, and welded in place. The orifice was drilled in the cell top and subsequently reamed to a knife-edge thickness. The diameter of the orifice was measured with a traveling microscope capable of reading 0.0001 cm. The Bureau of Mines studied the standard free energies2 of formation of ferrous fluoride (FeF2) and ferric fluoride (FeF3) with high-temperature galvanic cells employing calcium fluoride doped with 1 mole-pet yttrium fluoride as the electrolyte. A free-energy change for the cell reaction Fe (s) + NiF2 (S) = FeF2 (S) + Ni (s) together with the standard free energy of formation of nickel fluoride yields a standard free energy of formation of ferrous fluoride from the elements of ?GF° = -168.74 + 30.63 x 10-3T ± 0.41 kcal/mole (897-1,098 K). (2) Combining the standard free energies of formation of magnesium fluoride, ferric oxide, and magnesium oxide with the free-energy change for the overall cell reaction 3MgO(s) + 2FeF3 (s) = 3MgF2 (S) + Fe2 03 (S) (3) gives a standard free energy of formation of ferric fluoride from the elements as ?Gf° = -281.45 + 90.46 X 10-3T ± 0,67 kcal/mole (880-935 K). (4) Free energies and equilibrium fluorine pressures for the two univariant equilibria of the Fe-F system are tabulated and illustrated.
