El presente texto describe el proceso de preparación, extracción, recuperación del enmaderado y relleno, que comprende el método de explotación en los mantos de de la mina de Colquijirca, asi como los costos y rendimientos en el tajeo y sus servicios. El depósito mineralizado de Colquijirca se forma a través de los estratos de caliza, produciendo en esta zona circundante un anticlinal y un sinclinal de norte a sur. Sin embargo, dicho plegamiento no permitía una percepción adecuada de los minerales concentrados en las capas. Por tal motivo, surge la aplicación del método que a través de un corte este-oeste en la zona mineralizada, visibiliza la separación de capas mineralizadas entre sí, por otras capas estériles. Producto de esta escisión, la mineralización del porcentaje bajo señala la diferencia establecida en distintas capas diseminadas, mientras que en otras zonas, el proceso de penetración se concentra en los mantos y logra un terreno con mejores condiciones económicas para su explotación. Cabe mencionar que si bien el objetivo inicial del método responde a la recuperación de minerales a través de la visualización de capas mineralizadas y de relleno, la mejora de su modificación en el sistema de corte y relleno procesal permite un ahorro económico a la industria minera. Por tal motivo, se buscó aprovechar mejor el sistema de explotación por medio de una adecuada construcción de galerías paralelas a la dirección de mantos paralelos, el desmonte de rajos, construcciones de la tolva y camino hacia el rajo y la reutilización de la madera en el uso de los puntales. Así, dicho método permite explotar paralelamente varios mantos con la menor preparación y seguridad, aunque su aplicación se restringa a zonas no afectadas por el relleno antiguo y donde la consistencia del terreno es más favorable, aplicándose a los mantos de Mercedes Piritas Pisos y Mercedes Piritas Techos y eliminándose en tajeos inclinado° de 40° y 50° en la mina de Colquijirca.

"Corrosion monitoring is commonly used in a variety of industries as a means of effective corrosion control programs to extend the life of the asset and ensure safe operation of the facilities. The majority of the monitoring tools have limitations and tradeoffs – e.g., sacrificing the longevity of the probe for higher measurement resolution. Linear polarization resistance (LPR) probes have the advantage of providing the operator with accurate, real-time corrosion rate data; however, the probes can only be deployed in conditions where the measured environment possesses certain minimal conductivity. In many instances, utilization of LPR probes in conditions with intermittent wetting (for example, conditions where the temperature fluctuates above and below the dew point) presents a challenge. To address this limitation, a special-design cooled corrosion probe has been developed, commercialized and integrated into the distributed control system in the plants. In addition to high-accuracy measurement of corrosion rates, the probe allows for monitoring of pitting corrosion. The most innovative feature of the probe is the cooling circuit, which brings the temperature of the sensors below the dew point, forcing precipitation of moisture and thus permitting corrosion measurements. Additionally, the probe was found to be well-suited for monitoring corrosion in crude distillation unit (CDU) overhead space, where condensation of hydrochloric acid may take place at relatively high temperatures, which would require relatively moderate amount of cooling to be imparted to the probe sensors. This paper presents laboratory-based data from a test simulating CDU refinery environment. A case study is presented to demonstrate how the cooling probe can be effectively used in the plants for corrosion monitoring.INTRODUCTIONConventional corrosion-monitoring techniques such as weight-loss coupons to assess corrosion damage are commonly used in plants1. However, the use of coupons is not only labor-intensive, but also does not deliver real-time corrosion data, thus effectively serving as a “backwards-looking” monitoring tool. "Resource of metallurgical coke is becoming scarce, and although coke can be partially replaced by pulverized coal injection, there are many restrictions for further increase in coal ratio. Mixed charge of ore and lump coal from top to replace more coke was studied in this paper. Softening-melting property of the burden was affected by charge of lump coal. Softening-melting properties of mixed charge of ore and coke, mixed charge of ore and lump coal were tested respectively. Results show: the property of the burden mixed with coke is superior to the burden mixed with lump coal; lump coal would not deteriorate softening-melting property of the burden and some of them can even improve softening-melting property of the burden. Top charge of lump coal would not deteriorate softening-melting process, and this should be a new way to increase coal consumption to decrease coke rate.IntroductionThe blast furnace is still the predominant process for the reduction of iron ore and will probably remain so for the next decades. Metallurgical coke is becoming scarce and expensive, so the cost of hot metal can be decreased by reducing the consumption of metallurgical coke[l]. Coke can be partially replaced by pulverized coal injection, currently the highest rate of pulverized coal reached 266kg/tHM, most of blast furnace PCR is about 150kg/tHM, and it is very difficult to further increase of PCR. Nut coke is charged into blast furnace mixed with iron ore, not only for improving utilization of metallurgical coke, but also for lowering the coke rate. Presently the majority of blast furnaces in the world use nut coke although its amount is very different: from 10-20 to 70--100 kg/tHM and more[2-4].The effect ofnut coke in blast furnace is extensively researched, and the main conclusions recommend: to improve gas permeability of cohesive layer in blast furnace, to promote reduction of iron burden, protect metallurgical coke from the solution in the shaft due to higher reactivity of nut coke. There is no special requirement for the strength of nut coke[5-8]. Nut coke is also used for sintering fuel, which may lead to the shortage of the nut coke charging into blast furnace. So lump coal mixed with iron ore is considered to be charged into the blast furnace, not only to reduce the cost of grinding coal, but also to increase the use amount of coal."

Las aplicaciones posibles de las perforadoras hidráulicas de percusión en la perforación de superficie son: la perforación de banqueo de alta producción en canteras, perforación secundaria en minas metálicas a cielo abierto, explotación de minas de carbón a cielo abierto, construcciones importantes y otras obras de ingeniería civil. Asimismo, este tipo de perforación tiene futuro donde la productividad es alta y los costos de rendimiento bajos. De otro lado, al comparar las ventajas de la energía hidráulica y la neumática en la perforación de superficie, se considera como productiva la primera -en tanto existe una mayor capacidad, un mejor ambiente laboral y unos costos de operación más bajos.

Mill liner design is an important factor in grinding. Testing and selection of the optimum liner profile for a given set of mill operating conditions can improve mill capacity, liner life, and liner wear rate At a time when mill avilability is at a premium, production costs are going up, and lead time for mill liner castings is a year or more, the mill liner that grinds best, lasts longest, and costs least is a necessity for economic mill operation. In testing four mill liner profiles for 13' x 12' overflow ball mills, Climax found that an improved design increased mill tonnage by 3 tons per hour while reducing finish grind by 1.7% + 100 mesh, reduced liner wear rate, and almost doubled liner life.

"An EXTENDED ABSTRACT is available for download. A full-length paper was not prepared for this presentation. This paper aims to highlight the global exploration opportunities that exist in connection with Ural-Alaskan (UA)-type intrusions. The key economic importance of UA intrusions is the existence of metallic platinum (mainly iron-platinum alloys) associated generally with chromite mineralisation and located within a dunite core, especially its coarse-grained part. Being very dense and resistant to erosion, platinum can form rich placers as the intrusion erodes. Big multimillion ounce placer platinum deposits of this type have historically been successfully mined for many years (eg Russia, Colombia and Alaska).However, large-scale exploration and mining of platinum placers currently occurs only in the Russian Far East. Outside of Russia, there is now little or no understanding of this type of deposit and its economic importance. Using successful operations in Russia as examples, it is demonstrated that there are many opportunities for similar discoveries all around the world, especially around the Pacific Rim, where such intrusions tend to be concentrated. Examples of highly prospective areas in eastern Australia and New Zealand are given. There is also excellent potential in British Columbia (BC) Canada, South-East Asia (Philippines, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and New Caledonia) and South America (Colombia and Ecuador).CITATION:Nazimova, Y and Ryan, G, 2015. Anyox, where the Hidden Creek mine of the Granby Consolidated Mining, Smelting and Power Company is located, is situated on an excellent deep-water harbour in Granby bay, at the head of Observatory inlet, about 600 miles from Vancouver and 90 miles north of Prince Rupert. Anyox is the Indian name for the little stream which empties into Granby bay, and means 'hidden creek'. The Ore-Bodies The ore is a replacement deposit and occurs at and near the contact between argillites and a later intrusive greenstone. This contact locally has a general north-and-south trend, an irregular westerly dip, and in the vicinity of the ore-bodies there has been intense folding, accompanied by faulting. The mineralizing solutions supposedly were derived from the Coast Range granite batholith, distant one to two miles to the east and north. The whole area is cut by many dykes of varying widths, which seem to have had but little part in the ore deposition.

This paper compiles the research work conducted by the Spokane Research Laboratories in the investigation of shotcrete within underground mines to the applied design of ground support for the operator. It looks at the design methodology in terms of employing shotcrete as a fabric to confine the rock mass between the individual bolts as dictated by empirical charts. The failure mechanism in terms of its implication on design is presented with respect to the design of 6m wide tunnels for temporary and permanent openings within weak rock masses. This is reflected by field observations that relate laboratory tests to the onset of failure for the operator in order to provide guidelines for design and monitoring. This is coupled with guidelines for safe entry in terms of cure times as well as the understanding of the behaviour of the shotcrete in terms of fibres and the overall strengths that result with respect to the design of the mine openings. This enables the operator to better understand his workplace thereby provide a safer work environment.

Coal dust explosions have occurred in coal mines across the world. The Mitsui Miike Coal Mine disaster in 1963 was an example of how this hazard was not managed effectively, resulting in the loss of 458 lives and hundreds of people sustaining permanent brain injury from carbon monoxide poisoning. Management of the risks for this hazard have been well documented and have been implemented in modern coal mines. A recent trend in some mines has seen the abolition of barriers on roadways on the basis that the risks are being managed by the current controls. These controls include stone dust application, trickle dusters, dust analysis and dust removal. Vacutainers are employed by the Bureau of Mines and the Mining Enforcement and Safety Administration for sampling mine air and other atmospheres containing fixed gases, low-molecular-weight hydrocarbons, and products of combustion. Tests were conducted to study shelf life of evacuated samplers prior to sampling and also to check the stability of sampled gases prior to analysis. An unexplained phenomenon, slow accumulation of carbon monoxide in evacuated samplers, occurred after a few weeks' storage; levels were low but increased with time and could pose a problem for critical applications. Accordingly, attempts to halt CO release by additional means of treatment were made, and storage at low temperature was found to be effective.

IN the Chihuahua district of Mexico the first smelting was that inaugurated by the early Spaniards for the production of silver bullion. The ores treated were high in silver and lead. Silver-lead bullion was first produced and the lead then cupelled to waste, with the slag produced running from 5 to 10 per cent in lead and about 25 to 40 per cent silica. The ore was mined by peon labor, often being carried out of the mine on the backs of the men, and then transported by burros. Furnaces were of primitive construction, adobe or rock being used in the earlier period and some iron later when it became available. Blast was originally supplied by bellows manually operated. Such smelting was carried on to a greater or lesser extent until the latter part of the last century, and so extensive was it that many hundred thousand tons of leady slag remained to be treated in modern furnaces. In 1908 a smelter was placed in operation at Chihuahua by the American Smelting & Refining Co. At that time the ore was practically all oxidized and by a little selection, self-fluxing mixtures could be made, but with an average lead content usually under 10 per cent and sometimes as low as 7 per cent. The bullion produced would carry from 150 to 300 oz. silver per ton. The slag made approximated 30 per cent SiO2, 42 per cent FeO, 21 per cent CaO, and perhaps 3 per cent Zn. The ores varied from hard, coarse material which was passed through a crusher, to a considerable quantity of fines which had to be smelted as it came, as crushing the coarse was the only preparation for smelting.

On December 12, 2018 at 4:14 AM EST, an earthquake registering a 4.4 magnitude on the Richter Scale occurred in central Tennessee. According to a survey posted on the USGS website, this earthquake was felt throughout the southeast and even as far away as Arnold Nebraska. That’s over 900 miles (1,448 kilometers) from the epicenter. We recorded the vibrations from this earthquake on 44 different seismographs that were set up with remote access to continuously monitor vibrations from blasting activities. Having this data gave us an opportunity to compare the vibrations caused by earthquakes and blasting. A simple observation of the amplitudes, frequencies, and durations is enough to notice that vibrations from earthquakes are very different than vibrations caused by blasting in mining and construction

WARTIME depletion of the reserves of iron ore in the Lake Superior region of the grade and character now being shipped down the Lakes was serious. The time has come to take stock of the resources that remain in order to plan our future program of supply for our blast furnaces and protect, as far as possible. the tremendous investment made in the Lake Superior iron mining industry. Hugh M. Roberts and William H. Crago have estimated the reserves of the Lake Superior region in the United States at two billion long tons. These reserve figures are of direct-shipping ore and those concentrates produced by methods now in commercial use or those methods that may be expected in the near future. In their estimate they have assigned 392 million long tons to the Michigan ranges (all reserves in long tons) : 112 million tons for the Gogebic. 140 million tons for the Menominee, and 140 million tons for the Marquette.

SILICA is the main impurity in iron ore. It is intimately associated with the iron oxide, sometimes free but more often in the combined state, as a mineral silicate. Its separation and purification sometimes present difficult problems to the analyst. In the absence of any definite knowledge to the contrary, orthosilicic acid. H4SiO4, is supposed to be the only silicic acid made, all other forms, such as metasilicic acid, H2SiO3, representing different degrees of its dehydration. These acids are exceedingly weak but form the most stable compounds found in nature. They are known as the silicate minerals and are formed by the combination of the different metallic oxides

TONIGHT I want to speak of the current problems and the postwar difficulties facing American industry. American industry has done an outstanding job in adjusting its operations to wartime necessity. The national income for 1942 was nearly $120,000,090,000 and of this outlay approximately $55,000,000,000 went for war material. The enormity of the expenditures for war material is indicated by the fact that the expenditures for war purposes alone were greater than the annual gross national income in the period 1931-34. This tremendous production job in turning out a record output of war products was accomplished by industry in spite of a large number of restraining and hampering influences, and I want to mention several of the more important problems.

OUR own Institute of Metals and Iron and Steel divisions cooperated with the Iron and Steel Division of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the American Welding Society, and the American Society for Steel Treating in a busy week at Cleveland. The morning sessions were held at the Hotel Cleveland and the afternoon ones at the Auditorium, where the metallurgical exhibition under the auspices of the American Society for Steel Treating not only occupied the arena of the Auditorium but completely filled the huge adjacent Annex. In the intervals of sessions the members thronged the exhibits but in the evenings the local attendance was so great that if the crowds had been any larger it would have been difficult to see the exhibits. With so many firms, both producers of metals and of equipment accessory to their production and use, it would be impossible to mention them -all and unfair to single out a few, since no two individuals' judgment would coincide as to relative interest and importance. In any case an exhibit is a thing to be seen rather than described, and these were well worth seeing.

IN furtherance of the policy of acquainting those members of the Institute who live at a distance from New York with all the details of administration, the thirty delegates sent by the local sections and the technical divisions were invited to attend the meeting of the Directors on Tuesday evening as well as the Directors' dinner immediately preceding. Including the Directors and officers, new and old, the members of the Papers and Publications Committee and the section delegates, more than 70 sat down at the dinner table in the Engineers Club. The attendance at the business meeting that followed was not quite so large, doubtless for the reason that the ladies' fashion show, held in connection with the informal dance, offered attraction that eclipsed that of watching the wheels of Institute business go around.

IN Bolivia, mining is still the principal economic activity, as it was before and during the Spanish Colonial period. Tin, tungsten, antimony, copper, lead, zinc, gold, silver, sulphur, and a little bismuth are produced. The Andes mountains are divided into two main ranges in Bolivia; the Western range marks the border with Chile and the Eastern range forms the backbone of the country; in the North it drops rather abruptly eastward, to the plains of the Beni, whereas in the South it splits and is separated from the Chaco flatlands by a series of folded mountain ranges. In general the mineral deposits are found within the Eastern range or in the hills that rise from the high plateau between the ranges - really parts of the Eastern range partly submerged by recent sediments. The mineral belt is thus over 500 miles long and about 100 miles wide and includes most of the principal centers of population and the most important means of communication. The region is mountainous and the roads are bad; furthermore labor is a serious problem, for the land is poor and the agricultural population is never far from hunger. The floating supply of miners is limited and soon exhausted in any emergency like the present.
