Granite ores are composed of silicate minerals and a variety of valuable REE (rare earth elements)-bearing minerals, however the processing technique to recover these valuable minerals is not yet developed. In this study, the recovery of REE-bearing minerals by dry magnetic separation and wet high intensity magnetic separation (WHIMS)-settling from surface sample and from drill core sample, respectively, of a granitic REE-Zr-Nb ore deposit was investigated. The two samples have different mineralogy however in both samples, light REE are commonly contained in REE carbonate minerals while Y and heavy REE are commonly contained in zirconium silicate minerals and pyrochlore. The liberation size of the REE-bearing minerals in the two samples ranges from 10-250 ?m. Previous flotation testwork conducted on the drill core sample reported high recoveries of La2O3 (88%) and Ce2O3 (88%) but low recoveries of Y2O3 (42%), ZrO2 (17%), and Nb2O5 (29%). The objective of this study was to obtain higher recoveries of Y2O3, ZrO2, and Nb2O5 by dry magnetic separation and WHIMS-settling. Both processes implemented the application of a low magnetic intensity to initially separate the ferromagnetic minerals then a high magnetic intensity to recover the REE-bearing minerals. The results showed higher recoveries of Y2O3, ZrO2, and Nb2O5 by dry magnetic separation and WHIMS-settling indicating the potential of magnetic separation and gravity separation in recovering the heavy REE-bearing minerals. WHIMS-settling is more recommendable than dry magnetic separation because of its applicability in treating a wider range of particle size. In the WHIMS-settling, the light REE, Y, and Zr minerals were recovered mainly by applying four stages at high magnetic intensity of 21,500 gauss while the weakly magnetic pyrochlore was recovered mainly by decantation of the nonmagnetic slurry after a short settling time of 0.25 to 0.50 h. Electrochemical processes occur on nano-, micro- and macro- scale in numerous applications such as fuel cells, batteries, hydrogen production, mineral extraction, water treatment, electrotherapy, sensors and many others. In most of these applications, gases evolve either at one or both electrodes due to electrolysis. These gases form bubbles play a crucial role in electrochemical systems. For example, in electrowinning (EW) that is used to extract and refine metals such as Cu, Zn, Ni, Mn, and Cd from their solutions, in most cases the solution is acidic and oxidation of water molecules at the anode is the common counter reaction, which results in the liberation of oxygen bubbles. This generally requires a high overpotential and accounts for a considerable percentage of the energy consumed in metal EW electrolytic cells, apart from producing acid mist that is very corrosive for other cell equipment and building structures. The behaviour of bubbles in electrochemical systems is still a complex challenging topic which requires a better understanding of gas bubbles hydrodynamics and their interactions with electrode surface and bulk liquid, as well as between the bubbles themselves. The objective of the current paper is to briefly review the fundamental hydrodynamics of both gas bubbles on the electrode surface and gas bubbles interaction with the liquid bulk solution. The current work also investigates the impact of gas bubbling and some operating parameters in copper EW, such as current density (100-500 A/m2), temperature (25-75ºC), acidity (50-300 g/L) and a typical chemical mist suppressant (<50 ppm). The results clearly show that both suppressant and temperature reduced the overall surface tension of the solution. Also, chloride concentration and applied current improved electrolyte flow and copper quality at higher current densities. The current paper contributes to the development of mineral processing (specifically to copper hydrometallurgy), as it deals with fundamental hydrodynamics and interactions of gas bubbles that formed during copper EW and play a crucial role in copper electrochemical systems.

"In the Dongri Buzurg Manganese Mine of M/s Manganese Ore (India) Ltd., high grade lumpy manganese ore required for iron and steel industries is produced through multi-stage crushing and screening. This has resulted in accumulation of 50,000 tonnes of low grade fines over the years. This production of such fines is still going on. The fines create environmental problems, like air and water pollution and siltation in adjoining fields. Besides containing lot of manganese values, they occupy large space which is very scare in mining area.The Indian Bureau of Mines under one of its statutory functions has suggested the company to explore the possibility of recovery of additional values under conservation and environmental aspects. Hence the company has sponsored a bulk sample for beneficiation studies in the Modern Mineral Processing Laboratory and Pilot Plant of Indian Bureau of Mines at Nagpur, India. The main manganese minerals present in these mine rejects have been identified as pyrolusite and psilomelane. The purpose of this study was to explore the possibility of evolving a suitable beneficiation flowsheet to obtain manganese concentrates assaying over 72% MnO2 to be used as raw material for the manufacture of dry cell batteries.The sample/material was subjected to characterisation studies in terms of chemical analysis, granulometry and mineralogical compositions. Based on these characterisation studies, the beneficiation process developed comprised of desliming, jigging and low intensity magnetic separation mainly to reject quartz, silicates and jacobsite. The manganese concentrate thus produced assayed 70.2% MnO2 with MnO2 recovery of 78% and weight per cent yield of 63.5. This natural concentrate could be mixed with the electrolytic manganese dioxide produced by the company and this blend can thus be used as a raw material for the manufacture of dry cell batteries by the end users. Phenyl malonic acid (PMA), a new chelating collector, which contains a phenyl structure and a malonic acid chelating group, has been synthesized and its collecting capabilities to calamine, hematite, quartz and hemimorphite are also studied in laboratory. From the experimental results, it can be seen that the PMA has somewhat flotation ability to calamine, hematite and quartz, while it nearly has no collecting ability to hemimorphite. With the increase of PMA concentration, the flotation recovery of calamine increases. When the dosage of PMA was 560g/t and at pH=7~9, the flotation recovery of calamine gets its maximum of 45.94%. The test results about the influence of pH on the flotation recovery of quartz show that the flotation recovery increases with the increase of pH, and the maximal flotation recovery can be gained in alkaline media. On the other hand, PMA has stronger flotation capability to hematite than to other minerals. The flotation recovery of minerals increases with increase of PMA concentration. When the dosage of PMA is 560g/t and at pH=5~7, the flotation recovery of hematite is 82.96%. Mean-while, the influence of pH on the flotation recovery of hematite was studied and test results showed that, as pH increases, the flotation recovery sharply rises until pH=4, then the increasing rate de-creases outstandingly, at pH=6 the flotation recovery reaches its maximum of 82.96% and it de-creases speedily in alkaline media. Finally, through the measurement of infrared spectroscopy and in terms of solution chemistry of collector, the flotation mechanism has been discussed. It was concluded that the adsorption of PMA on minerals surface is chemical adsorption in nature through two oxygen atoms in the polar group of phenyl malonic acid chelating with the metal ions of minerals surface to form a hexagon-cycle chelate complex: C(=O)-O-M-O-(O=)C.

ACC ECOSAND is finely powdered crystalline silica, which can replace natural sand usage in concrete and plasters. ACC ECOSAND ensures a comparatively denser concrete than those made only with natural sand and / or quarry fines / Manufactured Sand (Artificial Sand). Moreover, there is a significant gain in compressive strength (10-15 %) & durability in concretes (Reduced chloride conductivity leads to increased durability). ECOSAND is a by-product of froth flotation of limestone. At ACC Madukkarai cement works, Coimbatore, Tamilnadu, full-fledged mineral beneficiation process is adopted to enhance the usage of flotation reject in concrete and plasters. Optimum level for usage of ECO-SAND is 50%. With 50% usage of natural sand+50% ECO-SAND in concrete mix, 1 day, 3 day, 7 day & 28 day compressive strength is increased by 30.1 %, 22.6 %, 15.1 % & 11.0 % respectively and with moderate chloride permeability as compare to 100% Natural Sand. Nickel and cobalt production relies heavily on the processing of nickel laterite ores; these ores contain the majority of known Ni and Co reserves, 80% and 90% ~ 95%, respectively. The Caron process is used to extract Ni and Co metals from low-grade nickel laterite ores (1% Ni and 0.1% Co). It involves selective reduction of NiO and CoO minerals followed by ammoniacal leaching. Despite low metal recoveries, this process continues to be technically and economically reliable and thus commercially important globally. However, keeping the Caron process cost-effective has been a challenge for industries because of increasing economic and environmental pressures. Although studies of the Caron process have been extensive, significant improvements in recoveries of industrial processes have not been forthcoming. Reported industrial metal recovery from high iron content ore is only 80% ~ 85% for Ni and only 40% ~ 45% for Co; recovery is even lower for ores rich in magnesium. The real difficulty here is that there is no complete understanding of and control over the complex series of reactions in the ore and in the leaching solution during processing. Achieving effective metal recoveries from the Caron will require control of the mineral transformations, which affect the activation of minerals by reduction. In this study, the effect of over-reduction was investigated, which superseded the effect of activation by lowering the activity of the minerals and thus metal dissolution. Reduction was carried out in a batch reduction apparatus with 1:1 and 1:2.5 CO/CO2 gas mixtures from temperatures of 500 ~ 700°C and residence times up to 60 minutes. The pre-reduced ores were leached using a standard ammoniacal leaching test. Thermodynamic analysis and possible effects of stable phase field on leaching was examined. The results suggest that control of over reduction effects are directly related to the mineral transformation and reduction conditions.

"Gas dispersion plays a fundamental role in froth flotation. Gas dispersion in flotation is quantified by using four properties: gas velocity, bubble size, gas hold-up and bubble surface area flux. Gas dispersion measurements were conducted in three flotation cells: TankCell 1, TankCell e300 and TankCell e500. The measurements reported in this paper were carried out exclusively in two-phase systems using only water and air at frother dosages exceeding the Critical Coalescence Concentration (CCC) in order to prevent bubbles from coalescing. The measurements conducted in TankCell 1 and TankCell e500 were conducted by Outotec specialists, whereas the characterization of TankCell e300 had been conducted earlier in 2008 by a team from McGill University. When working in two-phase systems and under non-coalescing conditions, gas dispersion characteristics measured in different scales can be compared directly. The measurements conducted in TankCell e300 are taken as a base line in order to compare the performance of TankCell e500, whereas TankCell 1 is a pilot-scale flotation cell which is used in rotor testing. The gas dispersion properties in TankCells were found to be affected by the air flow rate and rotor tip speed. Bubble sizes (d32) measured on the three-size scale seem to be within the same range of 0.6 mm to 1.6 mm. It was noted that the bubble size was influenced by rotor tip speed and gas velocity. In general, as the rotor tip speed increased, the bubble size decreased and as the gas velocity increased, so did the bubble size. The rotor tip speed also has an impact on the hold-up; in general, as the rotor tip speed increased the gas hold-up also increased but the influence of air flow rate on gas hold-up was greater. Bubble surface area flux was found to vary between 40 and 85 1/s. As the gas velocity increased, the bubble surface area flux also increased."

In this study, the authors investigated the capability of an acidic thiourea solution and silicon-organic polymers (PSTM-3c, PSTM-3T) as ion-exchange resins to recover of gold from gold-bearing ore concentrates. Firstly, elemental gold present in flotation concentrates was dissolved by leaching with a solution of nitric acid and thiourea under the optimized conditions. The best result on gold thiourea leaching was obtained under a nitric acid concentration of 2 N, thiourea concentration of 2 %, and oxidant (Fe2(SO4)3) concentration of 3 %, solid:liquid ratio (S:L) of 1:20, leaching time of 6 hours at 20 °C with a gold recovery of 93.7 % for a gold flotation (unroasted) concentrate. For the roasted gold concentrate, the dissolution of gold was 94.8% under the optimized leaching condition as nitric acid concentration of 0.5 N, thiourea concentration of 2 %, and the oxidant concentration of 1 %, S:L ratio of 1:10, leaching time of 4 hours at 50 °C. Secondly, a series of sorption tests was carried out on a pregnant leach solution containing gold complex Au[S=C(NH2)2]2+ using silicon-organic polymers (PSTM-3c and PSTM-3T), respectively. The effects of solution pH, adsorption time and temperature in the sorption process are also studied. As the results, the PSTM-3c and PSTM-3T polymers were adsorbed about 94.4 % and 95.1 % gold from the pregnant leach solutions under the optimum sorption conditions, respectively. It was found that the both PSTM-3c and PSTM-3T polymers were effective for the recovery of gold from the pregnant leach solution of thiourea. Adsorption activity of the PSTM-3c and PSTM-3T polymers was confirmed by new peaks near 1700 cm-1 in the FT-IR spectrum of the gold-adsorbed polymers, respectively.

"Density functional theory was employed to clarify the mechanisms of the activation of a quartz surface and its collection by the flotation method at the molecular level. The calculation results indicated that hydrogen bonds on the quartz surface (1 0 1) existed in pairs while in contact with water. The simulation was carried out to investigate the different effects of Ca2+ and Ca(OH)+ on a quartz surface with hydrogen bonds, and the results suggested that Ca(OH)+ most likely adsorbed onto and activated the quartz surface. Mulliken population analysis of the external oxygen atom of the quartz surface, calcium atom of Ca(OH)+, and the oxygen atom of oleate showed that there were electron transfer and the formation of a chemical bond between Ca1-O1 and Ca1-O3, which were indicative of strong interactions between the three atoms. In addition, the –OH of the Ca(OH)+ contributed to the activation, which suggested that the Ca(OH)+ group acted as a bridge between the surfaces of oleate and quartz.INTRODUCTIONFlotation is an effective separation method in mineral processing that takes advantage of the physicochemical differences between minerals and gangue, and the properties of the mineral surfaces play a key role in this process (Liu et al. 2016, Qin et al. 2017). In the reverse flotation process of iron ore, gangues are captured by cationic or anionic collectors and floated with air-bubbles as tailings, and the pre-depressed iron oxide minerals are left at the bottom as concentrates (Lima et al. 2013, Yianatos et al. 2015, Zhu et al. 2015). Quartz (SiO2) is one of the major gangues of hematite ores and cannot be easily removed. It is a naturally hydrophilic mineral, in which silicon is the cation in its crystal structure and has very limited solubility. Therefore, quartz must be activated, usually by metal ions, for its effective rejection as a float-product by reverse flotation (AIME. et al. 1976)."

It is investigated systemically in this paper that the granularity of the precursor, ZnC2O4?2H2O, is influenced by synthetic conditions. Instantaneously adding of precipitation agent is able to control the mean size of precursor ZnC2O4?2H2O under 300nm, which has great function to obtain well-dispersed ZnO nanoparticles in the next step, pyrolysis. The pyrolysis kinetics model of ZnC2O4?2H2O powder is obtained. Two steps take place during the pyrolysis. The first is dehydration, which the pyrolysis kinetic model is 2(1-a)2/3(chemical reaction), A=8.3×108s-1, E=(75.82±3.00) KJ/mol. The second is formation of ZnO, which the pyrolysis kinetic model is (1-a) (random nucleation and latter growth), A=8.45×1028s-1, E=(360.54±12.00)KJ/mol. ZnO nanoparticles obtained by pyrolysis take on self-growth behavior. It is resulted that for precursor ZnC2O4?2H2O pyrolysis time takes obvious influence on the partilces size under 420?, 500? and 600?. Finally, a new flow sheet for synthesis of ZnO nanoparticles is investigated, in which blendes is used as raw material and hydrometallurgy is introduced into it. The whole flow sheet has no industrial wastes, that is all byproducts can be used in the flow sheet recycled, resulted in the de-crease of productive cost and industrial wastes.

Currently, recycling technologies use relatively homogeneous plastics because hand-sorting waste feed is too expensive. Many promising technologies for separating mixed thermoplastics are being investigated, but they are still uneconomical and unreliable. Burning plastics for recycling is not used because of poisonous gases released when their burning. PET and PVC cannot be separated using conventional gravity separation techniques because their specific gravities overlap; PET density changes from 1.33 g/cc to 1.37 g/cc and PVC density is between 1.32 g/cc and 1.37 g/cc. For this reason, plastic recycling needs new techniques. Among these techniques froth flotation, also used in mineral processing, can be useful for its cost and simplicity. In this method, a plastic is selected from mixture, tried to regain its natural property, hydrophobicity. In this study the experiments were applied by using plasticizer reagents to make the selected plastics hydrophobic and us-ing NaOH to render the other hydrophilic. Post-consumed PET and PVC are evaluated by concerning the effects of selected parameters (particle size, concentration of plasticizer reagent, amount of NaOH, conditioning time and the effect of conditioning temperature). At the end of the experiments, optimum parameters for selective flotation of PET from PVC was found as particle size of -4.76 + 3.36 mm, NaOH amount of 30 kg/t, conditioning temperature of 75°C, conditioning time of 30 minutes, reagent amount of 300 mg/L. Consequently, PET was re-covered with 99.7% purity and 57% efficiency.

Discontinuous and consecutive process was applied to probe into the Kinetics and adsorption theory for Cs+ adsorbed by Zeolites under the conditions of temperature, time and fixed-bed dynamic adsorption. It indicated that the sorption kinetics behavior of zeolite?s sorption on Cs+ is ac-cord with pseudo-secondary velocity equation, velocity constant k2=0.0005213 g?mg min-1, and equilibrium adsorptive capacity is 147.0588 mg?g-1; The equation can be expressed as: Y=0.0068X+0.0887; From the analyzing of diffusion coefficients on different temperatures and times, the coefficient of diffusion is not only related with the fabric of mineral and the character of ions but also the temperature and time; When the ambient temperature hoisted, the diffusion velocity augmented rapidly; Cs+ would get over a certain energy barrier when it enters into structure of zeo-lite; This energy is expressed by activation energy, and its value is E=131.668818 kJ?mol-1; There are two dominating adsorption mechanisms in the system of zeolite absorb Cs+: ionic interchange and surface coordinate adsorption.

2-hydroxy-3-naphthoy hydroxamic acid code name F203 is a good collector of cassiterite, 1-hydroxy-2-naphthoy hydroxamic acid code name ZJ-3. F203 and ZJ-3 are similar series of isomers. They have similar naphthye, and similar series of functional OH and ?CONHOH, but the seat of OH and ?CONHOH group are different, on the F203 is 2.3; on the ZJ-3 is 1.2, ortho position too. According to Isomeric principle ZJ-3 is a good collector of cassiterite slime too. Using ZJ-3 as collector flotation -10µm occupies 90%, grade 1.16% Sn cassiterite slime of Da Chang Chehe concentration plant, pass one coursing flotation, two cleaning and one scarenging flotation, and obtains grand 18.26% Sn, recovery 92.68% cassiterite concentrate. The result proves the Isomeric principle of flotation reagents is correct again. This principle may supply to synthetize new flotation reagents reference. Banded hematite jasper (BHJ) containing 45.2% Fe, 32.64% SiO2, 0.63 % Al2O3 and 1.25 % LOI is found difficult to beneficiate either by magnetic or flotation techniques due to fine intergrowth of jasper with hematite. Phase transformation by reduction roasting with activated charcoal followed by low intensity magnetic separation to achieve a suitable iron concentrate has been attempted in this study. The mineralogy of the ore and different roasted products has been studied by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) to understand the reduction mechanism. The magnetite formation is observed at 850ºC while metallic iron appeared at a higher temperature. The effects of reduction variables such as reduction time (30-270 min), temperature (750-1050ºC), and reductant (1-12 %) using activated charcoal are studied. An iron concentrate with 64.65% Fe and 55.8% recovery could be obtained under optimum conditions of temperature: 850ºC, time: 1.5 h, and reductant: 6% by weight.

"Different coal properties are important in SL/RN (coal-based rotary kiln) direct reduction of iron ore, and in electrical smelting of prereduced iron ore. Laboratory simulation was used to evaluate two candidate coals, which were similar in volatile content and rank, but differed in reactive maceral content. The tests served to evaluate both the reduction rate (during direct reduction) and the dissolution rate of carbon from the coal into an iron bath.Reduction rates of mixtures of magnetite and devolatilised coal were assessed isothermally, using samples of 55 grams. The off-gas analysis was used to follow the extent of reduction. Results are shown in Figure 1 a). Coal B was expected to be more reactive, based on its higher content of reactive macerals (77%, compared with 61% for Coal A). In line with this, Figure 1 a) does show a higher reduction rate with this coal. However, increasing the reduction temperature increases the reduction rate substantially,especially for the less-reactive Coal A.For the dissolution experiments, samples (mass: 250 g) were melted in an alumina crucible (under a nitrogen atmosphere), to give a starting composition around 1%C. When the desired temperature was reached, 25 g of char was added on top of the melt, through a feeding port. Results are shown in Figure 1 b). The more-reactive Coal B was less crystalline (the graphite crystallite size estimated from X-ray diffraction was 4.6Å, compared with 11.4Å for Coal A). This is associated with a lower dissolution rate in iron."

The heap leaching of oxide copper ores with copper cathode recovery by solvent extraction and electrowinning is now well established as a low-cost method of copper recovery. The main purpose of this study was to extract copper from the copper low-grade oxide ore of Chodarchaei mine using column leaching. The copper oxide ore contained 1.1% Cu and 1.75% Fe. The mineralogical analysis indicated the malachite (Cu2(OH)2CO3) was mainly composed of oxidized phases. The sulfuric acid leaching experiments were performed under the laboratory conditions. The influence of several parameters on the course of the reaction such as particle size, acid concentration, flow rate, and time was examined. The optimum collective extraction of copper and iron was obtained at a particle size of +10-15 mm for a leaching duration of 3 days with sulfuric acid concentration of 100 gpl and using a flow rate of 2.5 cc/min. Under these conditions, the recovery of copper and iron were 98.54% and 41.99%, respectively. Keywords: column leaching, copper, iron, working diagram.

"A study was made of chemical and material compositions of the oxidized gold-bearing ore of the Kochkovskoe deposit. It was demonstrated that examined ore consisted mainly of quartz, carbonate and feldspar with a gold content of 2.2 g/t and a silver content of 6.1 g/t. By means of agitation leaching tests it was founded that about 79-80 % of gold can be extracted from ore using cyanide leaching solutions. The achieved high-speed dissolution rate of gold was due to its presence in a finely dispersed state (less than 2.73 µm), which was confirmed by the research of Uralmekhanobr. It was proposed that the ore can be processed by heap leaching process using cyanide leach solutions. Technological studies on the modeling of the heap leaching process were initially carried out in percolators with a capacity of 5 kg on agglomerated ore. It was preliminary established that agglomeration should be carried out at a cement consumption of 12-16 kg/t, with the moisture content in pellets reaching up to 10-12 %. The best percolation leaching results can be obtained with ore crushed to the size of -20 mm. The maximum extraction of gold to the solution was 79-80 % while the L:S ratio reached 1.2-1.4:1.In cooperation with the research center of OJSC ""Berezovsky mine"" a semi-industrial heap leaching test was accomplished. The result of a test performed was an extraction of 78.5 % of Au and 21 % of Ag from ore to a pregnant solution. This extraction degree was achieved at a L:S ratio 0.9: 1. On the ground of results obtained, a technical regulation was developed for design of the heap leaching plant with the capacity of 500 thousand tons of ore per year.INTRODUCTION The ore of the Kochkovskoe deposit represents an important reserve of gold in the Zabaikal region. Of the upmost interest are oxidized ores, the processing of which can be carried out by heap leaching (HL) with cyanide solutions. The dry coal preparation technology based on air dense medium fluidized bed is an innovative dry highly efficient technology of coal by introducing fluidization technology into beneficiation.. A modularized 40-60 tones/hr system (KZX-40) with an air dense medium fluidized bed separator was established. The construction cost of the modularized system is only 1/3 of the traditional wet heavy-medium coal preparation plant construction cost with the same capacity, and the consumption of dense medium can be reduced by 50%-60%. The footprint and volume of the system are decreased by 75% and by 89.81%, respectively. These facts show the improved intensity, efficiency and economy of modularized coal preparation technique. The modularized KZX-40 system can be used to separated 50-6 mm coal over a separation density range of 1.3-2.2g/cm3 depending on the variation of <1mm fine coal content. The separation efficiency of the system was investigated at low and high separation densities by float-sink experiments. The partition curve of the products at low separation density shows that the separation density (d) is 1.33g/cm3, and the probable error (E) value is 0.05g/cm3. Using 50-6mm coal with an ash content of 55.35% as feedstock, at a high separation density of 1.61g/cm3, the clean coal with an ash content of 14.67% and the tailing with an ash content of 71.26% are produced with an E value of 0.06g/cm3. It is clear that the modularized KZX-40 system is suitable for separating 50-6mm coal effectively. During the dry coal preparation process, the dust is removed by the bag collector and recycled back into the separator. So the system has the advantages to work without environmental pollution and water. The modularized system greatly reduces the construction and operating costs and decreases the area and volume required, compared with wet dense medium system. "Platinum Australia Limited (“PLA”) is currently undertaking a Feasibility Study into the development of the Panton Platinum Palladium Project located in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. The Panton Intrusive is a layered, differentiated mafic to ultramafic structurally complex body that has undergone numerous folding and faulting events. This has resulted in a southwesterly plunging synclinal structure some 10 kilometres in length and 3 kilometres wide.High grade PGM mineralisation is hosted within a number of stratiform chromitite reefs within the ultramafic sequence. The focus of the Feasibility Study is on the Top Reef which is situated approximately 150 metres below the mafic/ultramafic interface. The average true width of this reef is approximately 1.2 metres and the reef has a defined resource is 10.1 million tonnes at an average grade of 6.1 g/t PGM + Au.The Palladium to Platinum ratio of the Top Reef is approximately 1.15:1 and the reef also contains an average of 0.4 g/t Au and 0.3 g/t other PGM’s. The Panton ore is considered refractory in nature and standard flotation techniques achieve a PGM + Au recovery of less than 65% with a concentrate grade of less than 100 g/t PGM + Au. As part of the Feasibility Study Platinum Australia in conjunction with their major shareholder Lonmin Plc developed a new metallurgical process which has achieved an overall PGM + Au recovery of approximately 80% into a high grade PGM concentrate which is suitable for feeding direct to a PGM refinery.THE PANTON PROCESSThe Panton Process incorporates a two-stage Milling and Flotation circuit with no cleaning stages to produce a low grade, high recovery flotation concentrate. Typically the concentrate mass constitutes 25% of the feed and has a PGM + Au grade of 25 g/t.This low-grade concentrate is subjected to calcination in a rotary kiln or fluid bed at a temperature of approximately 400 0C for a period of 60 minutes. This step is designed to render the platinum minerals soluble in cyanide and both the temperature and the duration of calcination are critical to the efficiency of the leaching process."

This paper reports the results of the study of the influences of concentration and modulus of sodium potassium silicate solution (Na-K activator) and curing mode on the phase composition, mi-crostructure and strength development in the geopolymers prepared using Class F fly ash. X-ray dif-fraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and MAS NMR are utilized in this study. It shows that the compressive strength increases while sodium potassium silicate solution modulus increases, but when modulus exceeds 1.7, the compressive strength decreases, and it decreases markedly while modulus is greater than 2.0. The compressive strength improves with increase of sodium potassium silicate solution concentration. When the concentration is 36%, the compressive strength reaches the maximum. Elevated temperature can increase the strength of samples synthesized using sodium potassium silicate solution with 32% concentration and modulus 1.2. Compared to the strength of the sample cured at 50?, the strength of the samples cured at 65? and 80? are higher at 1 day and 3 days, but when cured at 80?, strength is smaller than that cured at 50? for 7 days. When temperature is too high, too long curing time will decrease the strength. Long precuring at room temperature before application of heat is beneficial for strength development, and there is about 10%~50% increase in strength of the samples cured at 1 day precuring and 2 days elevated temperature as compared to the strengths of the samples cured for 3 days at elevated temperature or cured for 28 days at room temperature. The main product of reaction in the geopolymeric material is amorphous alkali aluminosilicate gel.
