Conventional barrier pillars in underground coal mines are intended to protect mains and sub-main entries for relatively long periods of time. Inter-panel barrier pillars that may be used in especially deep coal mines, say, below 800 m (2,400 ft), are intended to protect longwall panel faces and adjacent panel entries for the life of nearby panels. Barrier pillar failures have serious consequences, especially when failure is sudden and catastrophic. Design of barrier pillars is thus of considerable importance to safety and efficiency of operations. Locally, failure occurs at the limit to elasticity when stress tends to exceed strength. Strength of rock is stress dependent, so an analysis of stress is central to rational design of barrier pillars. There are several approaches to stress analysis for coal mine pillar design that range from the simplified but popular tributary area method including variations that use empirical definitions of the tributary area (volume) to more sophisticated numerical methods such as the boundary element method and the finite element method. Despite ease of use, empirical methods are limited and always suspect when applied to conditions beyond their scope of definition, while boundary element methods do not generally include pillars in the solution domain. The finite element method is not so restricted and thus is a natural choice for conventional and inter-panel barrier pillar safety analyses. Caving of roof strata certainly affects the distribution of stress about longwall faces and nearby barrier pillars. Conventional wisdom that considers roof strata to respond as cantilever beams indicates the longer the span the greater are loads on longwall faces and face supports. Failure of roof beams, caving, shortens spans and relieves face and support loads. The same view is applicable to barrier pillars in that long roof spans outside of barrier pillars leads to higher pillar loads than short spans. Hence, caving should be beneficial to barrier pillar safety. However, the benefit may be small depending on the extent of caving and only in the form of a slight reduction in overburden weight transmitted to the barrier pillar, especially in case of inter-panel barrier pillars. FINITE ELEMENT MODEL Finite element models for stress analysis in rock mechanics are formulated in consideration of physical laws, kinematics, and material laws. These models meet the essential requirements for equilibrium of stress, satisfy strain displacements relations, and in a general sense, relate stress to strain through material laws, often referred to as constitutive relations. The last may be complex and replete with nonlinearities. A de facto engineering material law is the elastic model in the form of Hooke?s law for linear, homogeneous materials that may be anisotropic. A limit to elasticity is imposed by strength in the form of a failure criterion or yield function that accommodates triaxial stress states. Examples used in rock mechanics are the well-known Mohr-Coulomb (MC)criterion, the popular Hoek-Brown (HB) criterion, and the Drucker-Prager (DP) criterion. The first is linear in stress, while the second is nonlinear. Both do not include any effect of the intermediate principal stress. The last is also linear in stress but includes the intermediate principal stress. All show an increase in the major principal stress at failure with confining pressure. In the UT2/3 finite element programs, the failure criterion Y is a nonlinear, anisotropic form and is also the plastic potential [1]: [YJI=+ 11NYJI=+- (1) ] where N is an exponent, usually 2, and J2 and I1 are nonlinear anisotropic forms of the second invariant of deviatoric stress and the first invariant of principal stress. The form (1) reduces to DP when N=1and isotropy prevails. When Y = 1, the limit to elasticity is reached and plastic deformation is possible. The material constants that enter (1) are all computed from unconfined compressive, tensile, and, in case of anisotropy, shear strengths. These latter strengths may be estimated from conventional laboratory test data. Of course, joints in field-scale rock masses induce different values. How different is often a matter of conjecture. For comparative studies, laboratory rock properties seem adequate. Inelastic, that is, plastic behavior occurs with strain beyond the elastic limit. Strain hardening, ideal plasticity, and strain softening are possibilities. Ideally brittle behavior with complete loss of strength is an extreme form of strain softening [2]. Caving may also be considered as strain softening with a less drastic reduction of material properties. As intact roof strata fail, fall, and form a rubble pile below, a new material is formed with greatly reduced elastic moduli and strengths, say, 1/100th of the original intact moduli and strengths. From another viewpoint, caving is simply a natural cut and fill process. Input for stress analysis by the finite element method includes: 1. Preexcavation stress state 2. Geology (stratigraphic column) 3. Structure (major faults, joint sets) 4. Elastic moduli 5. Strengths, and specific gravities of each rock type 6. Excavation sequence Output from an analysis includes distributions of: 1. Stress 2. Strain 3. Displacement 4. Local factor of safety (element fs) The last is defined as the ratio of strength to stress and in view of the failure criterion (1), is the ratio [fsJstrengthJstress=] where the numerator is the maximum possible value and the denominator is the actual value of the square root of the second invariant of deviatoric stress. This invariant is a measure of shear stress intensity but also reduces to uniaxial tensile and compressive strengths as the case may be. An amphoteric collector was tested for dolomite removal from phosphate ore. The effects of some operating parameters and their significance on the flotation of dolomite were studied using statistically designed experiments. The parameters studied were impeller speed, pH and collector dosage. Analysis of the results showed that pH is the most significant parameter. Moreover, a concentrate containing 0.53% MgO and ~31.1% P2O5 with a recovery of ~ 90% can be achieved at optimum values of studied parameters, i.e., a pH of 12, an impeller speed of 1,000 rpm and a collector dosage of 2.5 kg/t.

“Old Borate,” located in the Calico Mountains east of Barstow, California, lead domestic colemanite production from 1884 through 1907. Mineral exploration at “Old Borate” in the early 1980's, examined borate mineralization in Tertiary lacustrine strata. Surface sample and drill hole locations, geology and structure, were hand-drafted on paper maps. To re-evaluate this data, the information was digitized using Geographic Information Systems software. Digital Elevation Model based terrain modeling integrated surficial samples with drill hole data to locate favorable drilling targets. Structural relationships were used to identify hypothetical resources formed by the leaching of boron from surface exposures, redeposited at depth.

The coal mining industry in the western United States is seeing the same boom as the rest of the country and the world. Most coal mines in the West are operating flat out as the nation’s appetite for energy continues to grow. And many of the coal mines have either increased their production capacities or are in the process of doing so. However, transportation issues along with environmental restrictions are keeping many mines from expanding even further. Some coal companies held off on further expansion plans until Congress and President Bush could agree on a national energy policy, one that recognizes coal as the nation’s leading source of electricity. In August, Congress passed and the president signed into law such a measure (see Washington Survey, page 7). The legislation includes research funding for clean coal technologies. So western and eastern coal could become even more important in the national energy picture. This is particularly true as supplies of natural gas diminish and the price of oil continues to increase.

Minerals Appraisers/Valuers often find great difficulty or failure in attempting to employ the Sales Comparison Approach to the Market Value Appraisal of development and operating stage mineral properties. An important factor generally overlooked is a comparison of net operating income (NOI) margins on a per-unit-of-production basis between mineral properties, whether these be demonstrated or forecast margins. NOI margins can vary greatly between mines or quarries that are producing similar products. Ultimately, the expected NOI margin determines what a buyer is willing to pay for an income producing property. Common criticisms of the sales comparison approach by minerals appraisers are introduced. These are counterbalanced by raising some issues in the way the inputs for the Income Approach are usually derived by minerals appraisers, and by review of some conspicuous examples of the much too common misuse or abuse of the income approach in market value minerals appraisals. Example transaction analyses and sales comparison analyses are used to demonstrate the author?s methodology for adjusting units of resource in his transaction adjustment tables (see APPENDIX). The examples are used as the basis for discussion of ways to employ adjustments for operating economics and many other factors, while cautioning about the potential for double counting. The conclusions include a recommendation that minerals appraisers attempt to apply at least two of the three valuation approaches when appraising the market or fair value of development and operating stage mineral properties, the two being the sales comparison and income approaches.

In this study, recovery of copper from solid material (obtained by leaching of chalcopyrite with oxalic acid in the presence of hydrogen peroxide) with a copper oxalate structure was carried out selectively using HCl. The chemical composition of the solid was as 29.3%, 9.7%, and 13.3% for Cu, Fe, and S, respectively. Selective recovery of copper by degrading the copper oxalate structure with a low-solubility product (Ksp = 4.43 × 10−10) was performed by conventional leaching in the presence of HCl. The optimum leaching conditions were determined as 5 M of HCl concentration, 318 K of leaching temperature, 120 min of leaching time, 25 ml/g of liquid–solid ratio and 400 rpm of stirring speed. Under these conditions, approximately 77% of copper and 3% of iron were taken into the solution. According to the characterization of the leach residue that was obtained, the oxalate structure was degraded. Moreover, the results of XRD analysis showed that the sulfur (S) and cubanite (CuFe2S3) phases were mostly observed in leaching residues, and this was supported by the SEM-EDX data. Based on the results, it may be stated that selective copper extraction can be obtained from a chalcopyrite concentrate by a two-step leaching method using a conventional hydrometallurgical technique.

At MacIntyre Development of the National Lead Company, Taha s, New York,, the flotation plant was set up to recover ilmenite from the finer size fraction of the ore that cannot be efficiently treated in the main gravity-magnetic separa¬tion process. It was later expanded to handle the reground middlings from the tables wetherill magnetic separators. The ilmenite-magnetite ore is ground to minus 20 mesh in five 6 x 12 ft. rod mills in closed circuit with DSM screens. The minus 20 mesh screen undersize is pumped to four parallel sections each consisting of two rougher wet-magnetic separators and one cleaner separator for magnatite removal. The screen undersize from the fifth section is distributed to all four sections. The magnetite removed in the roughers is pumped back to the cleaners and the cleaner magnetite is dewatered in rake classifiers and carried by belt to the winter plant or the stockpile area. The nonmagnetic sands from rougher and cleaner magnetic separator are sized for table feed in eight pocket hydraulic sizers. The slime overflows from the Crocketts, the sizers, and the magnetite rakes are collected and pumped to three-inch cyclones for thickening and desliming. The cyclone underflow is the principal flotation plant feed.

"Sierra Gorda SCM is a joint venture partnership of KGHM International (owned by KGHM SA, Poland), Sumitomo Metal Mining and Sumitomo Corp. (Japan) operating in northern Chile. The Sierra Gorda openpit mine and coppermolybdenum processing plant will become one of the largest mines in the world. The need for optimum production efficiency and sustainability has driven the creation of the most modern, wellinstrumented mine in Chile. This article contains a general review of the project including geology and history.This was a fast-track project going from greenfield site acquisition to mill startup in 10 years. Highly experienced and motivated engineers and technical staff have overcome many significant challenges resulting in a rapid ramp-up of production capacity. A potential expansion to double the production rate in the fourth year of operation has also been intensely studied.The Sierra Gorda property is located in the Atacama Desert of northern Chile, in the District of Sierra Gorda, Region II of Antofagasta, Chile (Fig. 1). There is almost no precipitation in this area. The mine site is generally flat with some rolling hills. The project is located about 5 km (3 miles) from the village of Sierra Gorda at an elevation of approximately 1,700 m (5,600 ft) above mean sea level. The village is near a highway and railway line. The city of Calama, home of the famous Chuquicamata Mine, is located about 60 km (37 miles) northeast of Sierra Gorda. In addition, the SG mine is in the midst of numerous other mines including Spence, Esperanza, Mantos Blancos, El Tesoro, Lomas Bayas, Gabriela Mistral, El Abra, Radomiro Tomic and Escondida, to name a few.The primary organizational value at Sierra Gorda is "Zero Harm." This includes employees, contractors, the environment, the community, plant facilities and mine equipment. A cornerstone of this program is called 5X5S (five by five S), which combines the lean principles of 5S with the safety model of taking five steps back and thinking about the task at hand for five seconds, five minutes, the time it takes to assess and manage the risk. "People caring about people" promotes proactive engagement in the safety of coworkers and others at work and at home."

Built-in-place (BIP) refuge alternatives (RAs) are designed to provide a secure space for miners who cannot escape during a mine emergency. Heat and humidity buildup within RAs may expose miners to physiological hazards such as heat stress. To minimize the risk of heat stress, Title 30 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), or 30 CFR, mandates a maximum allowable apparent temperature (AT) for an occupied RA of 35 °C (95 °F) (MSHA 2008 [1]). The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) has conducted extensive research on the thermal environment of occupied RAs intended for use in underground coal mines. NIOSH research has demonstrated that a fully occupied BIP RA can exceed the AT limit by > 5.6 °C (10 °F) in mines with elevated mine strata and air temperatures (Bissert et al. 2017 [2]). In this circumstance, an RA cooling system could provide a solution. This paper provides an overview of test methodology and findings as well as guidance on improving the performance of a cryogenic air system prototype by optimizing the flow rate, increasing the tank storage capacity, and improving the efficiency of the heat exchanger of the cryogenic system. This may enable BIP RAs to meet the 35 °C (95 °F) AT limit in mines with elevated temperatures. The information in this paper is useful for RA manufacturers and mines that may choose to implement a cryogenic air system as a heat mitigation strategy

Methane gas caused an eight-month shutdown of mining operations at the Mill Creek, Phase 3, Tunnel. The gas-related shutdown occurred as the tunnel was advanced to an approximate distance of 2,700 feet, which constitutes approximately18% of the total tunnel length. The construction of an emergency ventilation shaft, a comprehensive program of de-gassing wells and an expanded gas monitoring system were used to mitigate the gas condition. When complete, this tunnel will be utilized to convey and store combined storm and sanitary sewage collected from a portion of Cleveland, Ohio and ten suburbs. This paper will provide an overview of gas related remedial measures and explain how these measures were integrated into the project to ensure safe tunneling conditions.

On Nov. 13, 1985, Colombia's Ruiz volcano erupted, killing an estimated 25,000 people and burying several villages. Damages were estimated to be about $US300 million. The following is an account by SME member Antonio Rivera of the volcanic activity that led to the eruption. His account also includes a description of the geography and some geology of the affected area. Mining operations in the area were mostly unaffected, although some operations were forced to close until the roads leading to them could be repaired. Introduction The Ruiz volcano is located on the Central Cordillera of Colombia about 28 km (17 miles) southeast of Manizales, the capital of the state of Caldas. Ruiz is one of nine volcanoes that form a complex volcanic chain within the middle portion of the Central Cordillera. The Cordillera has 30 other volcanoes in the southern part of Colombia. Ruiz volcano Ruiz's elevation is 5200 m (17,060 ft). It is covered by an ice cap estimated to be 20 m (66 ft) thick at its summit, an area that covers 17 km2 (6.5 sq miles). Drainage is composed of several rivers that flow into the Magdalena River on the east and Cauca River on the west. The rivers flowing to the east are Guali, Azufrado, Lagunillas, and Recio. The rivers that flow to the west are Claro, Molinos, and Chinchina. There is a road from Manizales to El Refugio, a ski area located on the northeast flank of the volcano at 4800 m (15,750 ft) in elevation. The Ruiz volcanic complex was built in two stages. The first is a shield type of volcano (mainly lavas) formed about a million years ago. The second is a younger stratovolcano overlaying the ancient one. It consists of lavas and pyroclastics and was built over the past 500,000 years. Twenty-four eruptions of Ruiz are known to have occurred during the last 14,000 years. Its products mainly consist of lava flows, pyroclastic flows, mudflows (lahars), and directed lateral explosions. Historic eruptive record 1595 - Debris avalanche, blast, pyroclastic flows, mudflows, ash flows, and ash fall. 1828-1829 - Ashes (phreatic). 1831-1833 - Gas emissions and ashes. 1845 - Mudflows and pyroclastic flows. 1985 - Sept. 11- Fumarolic activity, phreatic eruption, ash fall, and small mudflows. 1985 - Nov. 13 - Ash and pyroclastic fall, major destructive mudflows (magmato-phreatic eruption). From 1845 through 1984, Ruiz volcano always had a slight fumarolic activity. It was restricted to the crater area. In November and December 1984, the fumarolic activity increased and the first ash emission and vapor-sulfur formation started. Small local earthquakes accompanied these volcanic activities. The volcano had a small erup¬tion on Sept. 11, 1985. It was manifested by phreatic explosions that ejected fragments of the vent and formed ash deposits 25 mm (1 in.) thick around an area 2.5 km (1.5 miles) from the crater. Fine material was blown by the wind and reached Manizales and neighboring areas, producing a small layer of ash up to 10 mm (0.4 in.) thick.

The Mining Foundation of the Southwest (MFSW)promotes public understanding and education related to the mining industry. Towards this goal, the Foundation has funded several projects from donations and fundraising activities. The MFSW was incorporated in 1993 by combining the Mining Club of the Southwest and the Mining Club of the Southwest Foundation. The Mining Club began in 1971 as a social organization. It provided members of the mining community an opportunity to meet. The club also provided a means for public education about mining. In the early 1990s, the club’s efforts were directed mainly toward educational activities. And in 1992, discussions began concerning incorporation into a non-profit foundation to further the public understanding of mining. In 1983, the American Mining Hall of Fame was inaugurated to honor significant contributors to the industry and profession. The Hall of Fame serves to educate people about prominent persons associated with the mining industry, present and past. The honorees number 75. Plaques commemorate their induction and are on display at the Arizona Historical Society’s Museum in Tucson, AZ. The combined honors ceremony and banquet have remained one of the fund raising activities.

The growing availability of information and data analysis capabilities of recent years provides new opportunities for improving the performance of mining operations. By using real-time measurements and artificial intelligence, it is possible to respond faster to changing conditions, while accurate and timely information permits rapid evaluation of changes and fast business improvement decisions. This article presents a blueprint for alignment of systems, organizational design, and management practices to leverage these developments in performance-driven operations management in mining and mineral processing. The first component of the blueprint is a performance framework with a system of key performance indicators for production control that can be used across organizational levels. This system places improvement at the core of management activities, giving greater importance to improvement skills at lower organizational levels, so companies can leverage available information for improving operational control. Secondly, the blueprint defines an organizational structure that strengthens performance improvement with technological and change management capabilities. Finally, the blueprint proposes alignment of management practices, covering the optimization of short-interval controls, the application of an improvement project portfolio management system that determines the ownership of improvement projects, and the coordination of controls across the organization. This combination of systems, organizational design, and management alignment supports rapid decision-making at the right organizational level. Introduction of the presented blueprint for operations management enables mines to leverage the developments in information and analysis capabilities to improve the performance of operations.

Although rates of pneumoconiosis in coal miners have declined substantially in the United States since the passage of the Federal Coal Mine Health and Safety Act of 1969, new cases continue to occur, including cases of rapidly progressive disease. In contrast, Australia's underground coal mining industry has reported few new cases of pneumoconiosis for more than 20 years. Mortality from coal workers' pneumoconiosis in official health statistics and the prevalence of pneumoconiosis among miners screened in X-ray surveillance programs are also lower in Australia. The U.S. National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) was requested by both industry and labor stakeholders to examine this issue, with the ultimate aim of reducing the rate of pneumoconiosis among U.S. coal miners. A number of factors, including coal dust exposure, silica exposure and coal rank were examined as potential contributors to the above noted differences. Comparison of coal rank data from each country did not illuminate the issue. Air sample data from the coal mining industries in both countries show that coal dust levels in Australian mines are somewhat higher than those reported in similar U.S. mines; however, quartz exposure for Australian miners is lower than for many U.S. miners. If quartz is contributing to the greater number of cases of pneumoconiosis in the United States, more effective dust control measures, as well as an independent exposure standard for respirable quartz in coal mining, should be implemented to reduce this potentially disabling condition.

Successful mineral exploration is the lifeblood of the mining industry. Contrary to what the environmental lobby would have the world believe, the industry is replacing the metals it is extracting. The reserve base has not changed significantly in 20 years (Fig. 1.) Mineral exploration is a research activity. First there is the idea, the vision or the intuitive thought. The experiments follow. These involve repeated phases of data gathering, data interpretation and concept testing through drilling. For many companies, exploration is the main investment in scientific research. Each mineral exploration experiment may involve years of costly work. Despite the improving tools of science and technology, the investment remains high-risk. Only the promise of high rewards, or desire to survive as a mining company, will stimulate the necessary commitment and level of investment. Confidence that an economic return can be achieved, confidence in the science and technology being applied and confidence in the people involved are the foundations upon which successful mineral exploration is built (Woodall, 1984). The challenges facing the explorationist in the 1990s fall into two categories: - the challenge to make the activity economic; and - the challenge to make the activity socially and, therefore, politically acceptable.

Introduction The Open Cut is one of the best known landmarks in South Dakota's Black Hills. It is the site of the original discovery of the Homestake ledge, or lead, in 1876. Between that time and 1945, the Open Cut produced about 36 Mt (40 million st) of gold ore, the majority of which was drawn from underground operations. In 1981, a drilling program was undertaken to determine how much ore the old timers left behind. The results of this study indicated an ore body made up of broken and caved ground, and solid blocks in pillars and crowns. Reserves are estimated at about 6.8 Mt (7.5 million st) of gold ore, grading at 4 g/t (0.116 oz per st). Total tonnage of material, including waste, is estimated at more than 60 Mt (66 million st). The mining plan is a combination open pit and underground operations. The bottom 78 m (255 ft) will be mined by the underground panel-caving method. The open pit was designed as a contractor operation up to the expected milling stage or the point of sustained ore production. The pit was designed to avoid disturbance of US Highway 85 near Lead, SD. In 1983, the South Dakota Board of Minerals and Environment approved the mining and reclamation plan. Test mining began in the north of the Open Cut using open pit methods. Upon completion of the test pit, Homestake Mining's board of directors approved an expanded mine plan. They committed an additional $27.1 million to prestrip the ore body that is expected to yield 23 t (750,000 oz) of gold. Project life is estimated at 15 years. Exploration program In early 1980, 10 diamond drill holes were drilled from the surface in the vicinity of the east side of the Open Cut. The reserves delineated by that drilling were too small to justify their development. A continuation of this study attempted to quantify the tonnage remaining in the bottom of the Open Cut in the crushed remnants of old stope-and-crown pillars. This was originally thought to be minable by improved drawhole methods using highly mechanized procedures. By early 1981, however, thinking turned toward surface mining methods. The effort to quantify minable ore tonnage ultimately involved drilling 385 reverse-circulation rotary drill holes. These were drilled from August 1981 to March 1983 in several groups of holes. Each group, or drilling program, had a slightly different immediate goal or purpose. The holes were drilled to various depths using truck-mounted Drill Tech 40 drills with doublewalled 76 mm (3 in.) pipe with 134 mm (5.25 in.) three-cone rotary bits. Initially, wet drilling was employed using a cyclone collection system. Since cutting recovery was not as high as it should have been, all subsequent drilling was dry. The cuttings were collected and deposited by way of a cyclone into the sample bag. The pickup for the cuttings using the three-cone bits was about 50 mm (2 in.) above the bottom of the hole. Overall cutting recovery for the drilling program was estimated at 75%. Samples were taken on each 1.5 m (5 ft) of hole drilled. Each sample was split into three 48-g (1-2/3 assay ton) charges. The accepted value was the straight average of the three charges. Because of the known "nugget effect," assays were nearly impossible to duplicate. Therefore, to validate the regular assays, a series of screen fire assays were run. Based on this method of assays and checks, it was concluded that 10% more ounces would be produced than indicated by mine grade. Test pit The northernmost portion of the mine as planned is known as the Terraville test pit. This portion was mined ahead of the rest and separately. It provided answers to questions on slope stability, reserves correlation, mill recoveries, mining costs, and surface mining conditions in various weather and ground conditions since many boulders and much timber were expected. The mining plan for this portion of the pit was successful. More ore was mined than was expected. Mixing of Open Cut ore with underground ore in the mill feed was successful. There are many examples, historical and recent, from the underground coal mining industry where during emergency response the response and ultimately the outcomes, could have been significantly improved if adequate systems had been in place for the collection and management of relevant information preceding the incident, the acquisition of information during the incident and the use of the information for risk mitigation and decision making purposes. The subject and process of knowledge management is possibly the most critical for would be rescuers of endangered coal mine workers, as it has been demonstrated at numerous coal mine incidents that a lack of or mismanagement of crucial information can be fatal for both the rescuer and/or the endangered coal mine worker. This paper will underline the scope and importance of robust knowledge management systems for emergency response within the underground coal mining industry and the process by which it is being achieved within the Queensland Mines Rescue Service and the NSW Mines Rescue Service.

This paper addresses historical aspects and construction sequencing of the subway complex under Columbus Circle in Manhattan; the structural elements of the rehabilitation and new construction; and the challenges associated with design and construction. PB is providing engineering services to New York City Transit (NYCT) for the rehabilitation of the 59th Street/Columbus Circle Station Complex that services over 150,000 customers daily. The project involves structural repairs, modifications and new construction requiring underpinning and temporary supports, custom framing details, and construction staging procedures to meet stringent limitations within the operating transit station and around the Columbus Circle street intersections.

A methodology is presented for the spreadsheet solution of processing networks performing separations with the methodology developed here a spreadsheet grid is used to represent networks with and without recycle loops. In this manner, network solutions are numerically approximated by spreadsheet grid solutions. The methodology was used to explore the ramification networks developed by the Chinese for tungsten and molybdenum processing. Non-linear stage transfer functions for two-component sharp separations can be used.
