Pregnant leach solutions from waste of printed circuit boards (WPCB) leaching contain many impurity metals (Fe in particular) at significant levels. These impurities should be reduced to acceptable levels to avoid problems in downstream recovery processes e.g., low current efficiencies in electro-winning of copper from sulfate solutions in the presence of ferric. In this study, removal of iron in the form of goethite from synthetic (30 g/L Cu2+ and 1 M SO42-) and real leach solutions of WPCB was studied in some detail. The influences of initial concentration of iron (1-4.5 g/L Fe3+), pH (2.5-4.0), temperature (80-90°C) and seeding (23.5 g/L) were investigated over a period of 4 h. A significant increase in the iron precipitation was observed (i.e., from 68% to 96% over 4 h) with rising the pH from 2.5 to 4.0. The addition of seeds had also increased the removal rate over 4 h albeit to a limited extent i.e., from 96% to 99%. For the real leach solutions of sulfate (H2SO4-H2O2) and sulfate/chloride leaching (H2SO4-CuSO4-NaCl), precipitation of iron was found to be 63-73% (pH 2.5) and 93-98% (pH 4.0), respectively. The precipitates were further characterised by SEM-EDS analysis which showed the presence of copper (1-25%) in the precipitates indicating significant copper co-precipitation from the solution. These copper losses can be attributed to the formation of copper compounds such as anthlerite and brochantite within the range of pH (2.5-4.0) tested. This study showed that iron can be readily removed from synthetic/real leach solutions of WPCBs to a large extent (=93%) at the expense of high copper losses particularly at pH 4.0.

"Mineral exploration and geometallurgy require a large number of samples for physical, chemical and mineralogical assays. The combination of all these data and their spatial distribution define the ore variability. This is important in exploration programs and crucial in feasibility studies as well as at the production operation level. Ore mineralogical composition and its associations, characterizing the geological formation and mineralization, are the main keys to define the ore domains and its variability, which can be quickly assessed by cluster analysis and by modern automated mineralogy tools. One hundred and ten copper ore samples from Sossego mine, in Brazil were compared and classified by X-ray diffraction cluster analysis based on the position and the intensity of the diffracted peaks. Initially four ore types were categorized based on content of major minerals: quartz, feldspar, amphibole, iron oxides, mica and chlorite. Results showed a strong correlation between the grouping and the samples location in Sequeirinho and Sossego orebodies, with a straight link to types/intensities of hydrothermal alteration prevailing in each body, which reflects the mineralogical composition and thus the X-ray patterns. Samples from four recognized ore types were submitted to detailed automated mineralogical studies by electron beam image analysis and differ strongly from each other regarding their chemical and mineralogical compositions and relevant parameters for mineral processing. Chalcopyrite is essentially the only valuable mineral, occurring both as submillimetric grains included in other minerals and as larger crystals. Except for pyrite, other sulfide minerals occur as traces. Chalcopyrite liberation curves indicate that samples from Sossego have higher liberation degree than those from Sequeirinho. The proposed method proved to be very efficient and accurate to classify a large number of samples within a short time frame, allowing the distinction of the ore types regarding their mineralogical composition as well as the mineral processing parameters."

The concept of the Unified Comminution Model (UCM) was presented at the 23rdIMPC. The model utilises computational techniques to calculate the mechanical environment in any comminution device, and then incorporates the outcomes from rock breakage tests to predict the product from a device. The model is fully mechanistic, and incorporates the capability to simulate novel equipment. This paper presents the progress on the first application of this concept to applied comminution equipment. This novel comminution model aims to integrate all comminution models within a single struc-ture. This will provide a step change in the predictive power of comminution models, and include a wide range of particle properties that will enable it to be linked to the upstream and downstream process of mining and recovery. Major advances over current models will be the capability to predict liberation, preferential grinding, performance of new and novel devices, and to have power as an integral driver of the comminution simulation process. The methodology and model structure have been developed. An equation within a population balance framework has been derived as the basis for the UCM. A set of SAG mill pilot has been used as the first test case. The breakage characteristics of the ore have been extensively tested utilising a new range of breakage tests required by the rigorous UCM structure. The mill was simulated with the EDEM - DEM software. A partial test simulation of the pilot SAG mill has been conducted. This serves to demonstrate the feasibility of this modelling technique, but still lacks important ore characterisation components that are under development. The study has raised a number of significant challenges to the accepted understanding of the comminution process. Through addressing these challenges considerable insight has been gained into the energy environment in mills and the requirements of breakage testing. The ore characterisation methods and energy transmission derived from DEM simulations remain as major research items.

Spherical grinding media (balls) are the most widely used media for comminution of ores by grinding. A modelling simulation study of the behavior of two grinding media in the grinding process was conducted to determine the possible advantages of the new shape milling bodies called tetraballpebs. Tetraballpebs are in the shape of tetrahedrons with spherical convex walls. A three dimensional CAD model of the mill drum with a diameter of 1200 mm was used. A continuous operating mode was simulated in terms of the 3D contact elements of the model (milling bodies and mill drum). Simulation tests were carried out in a typical grinding mode and at a typical rotational speed of the drum mill (75 per cent of the critical speed in cataracting mode). Studies carried out with both grinding media include equal number of milling bodies with the same weight and volume. Having thus ensured a uniform mass of the grinding media and same number of milling bodies, and constant other conditions and process parameters, conclusions can be drawn about the influence of the shape of the milling bodies on the grinding process. Annually at least 5% percent of world power consumption is involved in the process of ore dressing while ore processing technology. Such rate of energy consumption demonstrates the importance of a given process study in the human life-sustaining activity. Examining of interparticle destruction being under external stress pressure in ore responses this problem solution at the greatest degree. The technology of destruction in the roll press is of great interest. The use of the given equipment allows to save a significant amount of energy by means of the built-in ore destruction mechanism. Examination of stress-strain fields which determine the level of interparticle destruction between the rolls in the ore layer enables to specify both level of ore destruction and power consumption. The mathematical computer modeling for the deformable environment use based on the finite-element method (FEM) allows to carry out the given research. We use FEM solution for elastic contact problem for the most complete study of power consumption employed in ore and interparticle destruction. This problem solution allows also to examine energy consumption expenses spent for ore crushing in the roll press. Also we have identified the mechanism of ore in a layer of the particles under pressure roller press. It is established that high level of performance and reduction of energy consumption in interparticle destruction of ore in the layer due to the appearance of the gradient of normal stresses in contact of particles of mineral raw materials. The algorithm has been developed determining crushing product particle size distribution of fractured particles in the layer, using the Bond’s theory of crushing. The use of our FEM model reduces the time of equipment selection for new plant and at the design stage to reduce the risks of errors in the choice of roller presses.

This paper presents BF flotation machines in brief which are manufactured by Beijing General Research Institute of Mining & Metallurgy (BGRIMM). Dimensional analysis and similarity criteria have been used to scale up BF flotation machines. These scale-up criteria can be used to determine mechanical structure and hydrodynamic parameters including mixing, solids suspension, air transfer and power and so on. Similarity criteria are used to design 40m3 flotation machine being based on data from 1.2 m3 to 20 m3 flotation machines. Hydrodynamic tests of 40 m3 flotation machine in water are discussed.

"The conditions under which rocks become superficially damaged during the grinding process are not well understood. The main purpose of the work presented here is to understand how superficial breakage occurs under incremental low-energy impacts. To enable this study a series of abrasion tests with multi-size pilot mills have been performed. Outcomes of numerical simulation corresponding to each test were examined to investigate the experimental results. Abrasion tests have been conducted using three grinding mill sizes (i.e. 1.8, 1.2, and 0.8 m). Two types of ore were used to investigate different hardness strengths. To ensure abrasion was the dominant mechanism, in all tests the mill speed was reduced to 40% of critical speed. The relationship between the Fractional mass loss rate and particle size was investigated by randomly collecting seven tracer particles from sizes -73+63, -53+45, and -37.5+31.5 mm. It was evident from the results that the Fractional mass loss rate of angular particles declines as the particle size increases whereas the Fractional mass loss rate decreases from fine to coarse in rounded particles. Results of Discrete Element Method (DEM) simulations indicate that fine particles experience higher levels of collision energy per particle and this value reduces as the particle size increases and mill size reduces. This explains the higher Fractional mass loss rate of smaller particles as well as the increase in the Fractional mass loss rate as the mill size increases. Linked DEM and experimental data indicates that under these test conditions surface damage attrition is the dominant mechanism. This work suggests that DEM simulation can be implemented to predict the abrasion wear of particles in mills."

"Direct force measurement for bubble-particle interaction has been difficult due to bubble deformation, which makes it difficult to know the separation distances between the two macroscopic surfaces. In the present work, we have developed a method of monitoring the deformation accurately, while directly measuring the interaction forces. In effect, we can ‘see’ bubbles interacting with mineral surfaces under different hydrodynamic and chemical conditions and determine both the hydrodynamic and surface forces involved. In the present work, a high-speed camera has been used to record the optical interference fringes of a thin liquid film (TLF) of water formed on a mineral surface. The recorded fringes are then used to reconstruct the spatiotemporal profiles, from which one can determine the hydrodynamic pressure using the Reynolds lubrications theory. From the forces directly measured in the present work and the hydrodynamic pressures obtained from the fringes, we have determined the disjoining pressure. The results show that air bubbles interacting with hydrophilic surfaces form stable TLFs with zero contact angles. The TLF formed on a hydrophobic surface thins fast, form a ‘pimpled’ film, and ruptures to form a finite contact angle. The new information obtained in the present work may be useful to better understand the role of hydrodynamic and surface forces affecting bubble-particle interactions."

"In mineral comminution circuits, the feed to hydrocyclone consists of a heterogeneous mixture having varied degrees of liberation and sizes leading to the multi-component particle system. The presence of multicomponent particles exhibits a significant change in the classification performance parameters. In this work, a numerical study is conducted with an artificial mixture of magnetite and silica of different proportions having similar particle size distribution to understand the multicomponent interaction in a laboratory scale hydrocyclone. The heterogeneous feed is injected tangentially would attain different settling rates under the influence of centrifugal, drag and turbulent dispersion forces. In this work, Large Eddy Simulation (LES) is used to resolve the continuous phase turbulence. Modified Algebraic Slip Mixture (ASM) model using the corrected Newtonian rheology of fines to simulate multi-density and multi-size particles of the mixture in a hydrocyclone. The influence of the multi-component particles on classification performance is extracted from the simulation in terms of the performance curve, i.e. recovery to underflow, volume fraction distribution and the key forces acting on each particle in the mixture. An interaction was observed between different components during the classification process, featuring accumulation of heavier particle at wall-side pushing the lighter particles into the inner locus of zero vertical velocity (LZVV) zone. The comparison of separation factors of different size particles presented the higher probability of the magnetite of same size reporting to wall region and hence to underflow. Hence, an increased component cut-size with the increased magnetite proportion, particularly a profound effect on lighter density component’s cut-size was observed. INTRODUCTION The multicomponent existence is found in naturally occurring ores, affecting the pure metal extraction, nonetheless also affects the comminution and classification processes. Among many another classifier, hydrocyclone is a vital equipment used vastly in many industries. The main advantages over other classifiers are a static body, low operating cost and maintenance, high throughput, low floor space requirement etc. A typical hydrocyclone consists of a cylindrical section with a central tube connected to a conical section with a discharge tube. The fluid is injected tangentially into hydrocyclone causes swirling and thus generates centrifugal force within the device. The multiphase interaction inside the hydrocyclone is extremely complex and mostly explained by theories based on hypothesis. In past years, many theoretical models were proposed like a balanced orbital model (Criner, 1950), the residence time model (Reitema, 1961) etc. Though these models give an estimation of the cut-size and other performance parameters, it cannot predict the accurate performance of the actual state of operation. Among these models, the balanced orbital theory is the most adapted concept, based on the force balances of the particle in the dual vortex flow of hydrocyclone. The finer particle is subjected to the inward drag force, generated from the outer vortex flow to the air core, and drags the particle towards the overflow. The larger particle with the higher mass have enhanced centrifugal force and falls into primary vortex near wall reporting to the underflow. Generally, the forces acting on the particle include the drag force, centrifugal force, pressure gradient force, added mass force, Saffman lift force, Magnus force and basset force (Kraipech, 2005). The major forces like a drag, centrifugal, pressure gradient are the function of the particle properties like the size and the density. Hence, the existence of the multi-size and the multi-density particle will affect the separation phenomenon, with the varied forces acting on it. Geopolymers are novel engineering materials with the potential to play a highly significant role in the transformation of the construction materials and building products industry in the push to-wards sustainable development. These materials are formed by activation of industrial aluminosilicate waste materials such as coal ash or blast furnace slag with alkaline solutions. Some mineral waste can also be used, either as fillers or as reactive components. The use of waste-based geopolymers results in significant (up to 90%) reduction in carbon dioxide emissions when used in cement replacement applications. In addition to the formation of conventional pre-cast products, these high performance mineral binders are ideally suited to use in the conversion or encapsulation of toxic waste, including radioactive waste, due to their chemical stability and resistance to acid attack. It is the aim of this paper to review recent developments on the science underpinning this ?green? technology, and to discuss the technical and commercial drivers governing the large-scale adoption of the technology. Some of the recent fundamental breakthroughs in the study of geopolymer technology at the University of Melbourne will be presented. Despite the complexity of this reactive sol-id-gel system, progress has been made in the development of a thermochemical reaction kinetic model that has been validated using both calorimetric data and synchrotron kinetic data. Geopolymerization is potentially a disruptive technology, so that it is normal to expect strong resistance from established companies in the construction materials industry. It is increasingly necessary that waste generating industries such as mining collaborate with industries such as construction that could utilize this waste. The world?s first full scale geopolymer plant utilizing waste and re-cycled material has been commissioned recently in Melbourne, Australia, so progress on commercialization will also be presented. The authors frequently present keynote lectures on geopolymer science and technology at materials science, ceramics and construction materials conferences. However, this interdisciplinary technology that is still in its infancy, deserves more attention in the mineral processing and mining industry in view of its potential use in the mining industry, and also in view of the importance of mineral processing techniques in recent advances in geopolymers.

With the environmental issues and water recycling becoming more significant, the development of deep cone thickeners has improved the efficiency of thickening. While deep cones performance is dependent on many factors, the sensitivity of an industrial thickener to each variable factor has not been determined. In this work, four industrial deep cone thickeners, which are used on tailings stream in Shahrebabak Copper Complex, were monitored for a year to analyze the effectiveness of different factors affecting the performance. Feed flow rate, fine fraction of the feed, solids concentration, flocculant dosage and concentration, solids density, pH, temperature and bed height were the factors investigated on the basis of partial R2 and partial correlation. Results indicated that, with positive effect, feed slurry dilution affected the dewatering efficiency most sensitively. With a negative effect, the sensitivity of dewatering efficiency of deep cone thickeners to flocculant dosage was negligible. While, decreasing flocculant solution concentration had a considerable positive effect.

"Heap bioleaching is an unsaturated hydrometallurgical extraction process which is commonly applied to the recovery of copper from low grade sulfide ores as well as for preparatory treatment of gold ores. The leaching reactions occur in the liquid phase, catalysed by iron and/or sulfur oxidising micro-organisms. Contact of the mineral grains with the leaching solution is consequently essential for metal recovery. Additionally, the liquid is responsible for the transport of the liberated metal out of the heap under gravitation-driven flow. However, the highly inhomogeneous structure of the heaps coupled with low irrigation rates cause the flow to vary between being gravitationally and capillary dominated, resulting in non-uniform wetting of the ore. In this study a 132 kg agglomerated ore ‘slice’ is used to examine the effect of liquid distribution on microbial colonisation and mineral recovery in a long term bioleach (> 500 days) when irrigation from a single drip emitter source is employed. The novel setup enabled sample collection from ports positioned along the length and height of the ore bed, so that 2D maps of the degree of wetting and microbial colonisation could be generated at different times in the leach. Lateral movement of the liquid increased with bed depth; the majority of flow was below the irrigation point while the top corner of the bed that was not irrigated remained the driest region of the heap throughout the experiment duration. The lowest cell numbers were also recorded in the driest regions. Specifically, cell numbers in the top corner of the bed, 400mm from the irrigation point, remained at undetectable levels until the 283rd day measurement, in line with typical heap operation durations. This indicates that slow colonisation of the heap in the regions between irrigation points may be a significant issue in heap optimisation."

Roller presses are widely utilized in mineral industry for fine milling and compaction. Recently used models are providing only limited information about the material behavior in the roll bite. This paper introduces a 2-dimensional finite element model for analyzing those two basic processes. A pressure-dependent plasticity model with linear elasticity was used as a constitutive model for the particular material. Coulomb friction law was used to describe phenomena on the material/roller surface interface. Two basic roller geometries are considered: smooth (used for milling and compaction) and with cavities, commonly used for briquetting. Comparison of the results obtained from the model with experiment indicates that they are following the general trends of experimental values recorded with laboratory roller presses. It is shown, that the model is suitable to analyze material behavior through all stages of the rolling process: feeding zone, nip region, neutral plane and release section. It can predict pressure, shear stress, slip of the material over the roller surface, material velocity field, failure of the compact during release and the course of other important process variables. This allows the process engineer to gain an improved understanding, leading to a better process and equipment design and control.

"In refractory ores, a substantial part of the gold content may be present as a sub-microscopic component within the mineral matrix of the various carriers. This type of gold may be present as finely disseminated colloidal size gold particles (<0.5µm) or as a solid solution within the sulphide mineral matrix. Such ores are not amenable to gold recovery by direct cyanidation. In order to liberate the sub-microscopic gold, the ore has to be oxidized before being subjected to gold cyanidation and extraction. Autoclave pressure oxidation (AC POX) of the sulphide ore and subsequent cyanidation is a common technology used to liberate the gold in such refractory ores. The additional presence of active carbonaceous matter in such ores (double refractory ores) represents another major obstacle for efficient gold recovery during the process of pressure oxidation and cyanidation. This carbonaceous matter (c-matter) can adversely affect the gold recovery due to its ability to adsorb, or pre-grob gold from the cyanide solution. Advanced micro-beam analytical techniques such as Dynamic Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry (D-SIMS) and Time-of-Flight Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry (TOF-SIMS) have become powerful tools for characterization of different forms and carriers of gold for the needs of the mineral processing industry. Major advantages of these techniques are related to their ability to analyze individual mineral particles and provide quantitative analysis with detection limits in the low ppm/ppb concentration range. This paper describes various micro-beam techniques and procedures implemented at Surface Science Western (SSW) for quantification and characterization of the sub-microscopic gold and the preg-robbed surface gold as part of full gold deportment studies in feeds and process stream products."

Design of thickeners is based on laboratory test work, characterizing the material and determining the optimal reagents, dosages and settling regimes. Several methods for dimensioning plant scale equipment exist. Kynch and Talmage-Fitch design procedures has been applied widely for a long time. Nowadays, besides them, a dynamic laboratory test work is applied for design of high rate thickeners. In that the laboratory unit is operated with known solids load per area, feed and flocculation conditions and with raking of the underflow. All these test methods afford useful data for setting up and calibrating a dynamic simulation model of a plant scale thickener. This paper presents a flocculation kinetics based dynamic thickener simulation model and a procedure to calibrate the model parameters. With the model, the underflow stream composition can be simulated over time as a function of the thickener operating parameters, which are: the feed rate and composition, underflow pumping rate, flocculant dosage and dilution of the feed. In addition, the model incorporates calculation of the slurry bed level, the cone pressure, the yield stress and the rake torque. Such a dynamic modeling scheme enables setting up simulation aided operator trainings and developing and testing of advanced control strategies, for example. The unit model can be integrated as a part of concentrator-wide flow sheet simulation model as well. Here, calibration of the kinetic flocculation model based on a laboratory test case data and further the operation of a simulated plant scale thickener are presented.

They in fact vary considerably in different applications. This creates difficulties is designing a simulation program suitable for use by plant personnel, consultants, and researchers. Numerical investigation of fluid flow characteristics and mixing efficiency of different impeller designs, based on the mixing characteristics of a passive scalar/tracer, is conducted using CFD for lab scale flotation cells of diameter D and height H equal to 300 mm. Fine computational mesh containing close to 1.6 million cells is used to obtain fully resolved steady state flow field close to the impeller. Unsteady scalar mixing simulations are performed on a relative coarse grid consisting of approximately 450,000 cells. Based on detailed numerical simulations, flows are fully characterized for four impeller designs at two off-bottom clearances C of 50 and 25 mm (D/6 and D/12). Passive scalar is injected from the cell bottom and the time required to attain uniform concentration distribution inside the cell volume is taken as the mixing time by monitoring scalar concentration at four discrete locations. The effect of varying agitation speed and off-bottom clearance on mean flow characteristics is also investigated. The scalar mixing results reveal regions of low mixing efficiency and are used to understand mixing process in greater detail. Through the previous research work, it was found that the main flow pattern undergoes transition from double-loop to single-loop configuration with decrease in off-bottom clearance below a certain critical height for stirred tanks using flotation impellers in the absence of stator. The inclusion of stator is found to alter the mean flow behaviour by preventing the jet from transitioning to axial type flow for lower clearance. Power numbers for different impeller designs are calculated based on the torque generated on impeller blades, and also from the total turbulent kinetic energy dissipation in the overall fluid volume. Power number is found to exhibit a significant dependence on off-bottom clearance based on the CFD results.

Large quantities of electrical and electronic equipments are discarded at the end-of-life (EOL) in different industries and house hold applications. Their disposal is creating a challenging environmental problem due to the presence of hazardous metals and non-metallic materials such as epoxy resins and plastics including brominated flame retardants etc particularly in printed circuit boards (PCBs). The recovery valuable metals and separation of hazardous materials from discarded PCBs will not only conserve the resources but also mitigate the environmental pollution. From a recycling point of view for a sustainable society, the studies have been carried out for the recovery of metal values from EOL-PCBs of DVD video players (DVD-PCBs) and vacuum cleaners (VC-PCBs) using physical beneficiation techniques. The concentration of the metals was found to be 43 wt.% and 30 wt.% in DVD-PCBs and VC-PCBs, respectively. Both the PCBs samples were ground in a hammer mill after cutting and their size analysis was carried out. The liberation of the metallic and non-metallic fractions was investigated under the microscope for different size fractions. Subsequently, froth flotation and pneumatic air separation studied were carried out to enrich the metallic constituents. The studies showed the enrichment of metals in coarser particles (-1000 +150 µm) and non-metals in the finer particles -150 µm following mechanical recycling process. A grade of 90 % with 75% recovery was achieved by froth flotation, but lower grade and recovery of 75% and 65% respectively were obtained by pneumatic separation with -1500 µm powders for DVD-PCBs. A grade of 86% metal was obtained by froth flotation with 76% recovery in the case of VC-PCBs. The lower grade of 65% with almost same recovery was achieved during pneumatic separation studies due to lower concentration of metals in VC-PCBs. The studies also showed that the froth flotation is an efficient process for enrichment of metals from both the samples. The process is environmental friendly as no chemicals are employed during entire processing. The higher recovery and grade of metal is expected to be obtained on a large scale beneficiation process.

The Minas-Rio Project, located in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, is currently under construction. The new plant will have a regrinding circuit that uses VertimillTM. The objective is to process itabirite iron ores and it is expected that the consumption of media will represent a large part of the plant operating cost. Many studies in the literature indicate that the size of the grinding media directly influences the grinding efficiency. The size distribution of the charge media is related to the surface area of the charge. In this study, a sample of itabirite iron ore was tested with respect to grindability in a laboratory scale ball mill. The test mill was equipped with a torque device to accurately measure power consumption, as required for the determination of energy specific kinetic parameters. Five tests were carried out with different sizes of steel balls and with SICAM (sub-inch Cast Media). The size distributions of the feed and product of the several grinding tests were used to calibrate population balance model parameters for each condition. The results confirmed that the ball charge with smaller diameter is the most efficient among the different media charge tested.

Bauxite is the principal source for the production of aluminum metal which has gained tremendous importance over the years due to its versatility as a metal capable of substituting almost all of the non-ferrous metals, non metals like wood, plastics, fibre glass, etc. and even steel in many applications. 90% of the high purity alumina needed for the production of this wonder metal in the world comes from bauxite. Even though alternate methods have been developed to produce alumina from non bauxite sources, owing to the high capital and operating costs involved, Bayer process still retains the superiority among all the methods by virtue of its simplicity and favourable economics. Bauxite continues to be the perfect ore for alumina production and its remarkable utilization makes it the most important non-ferrous ore. Most of the Alumina Refineries in the world process different types of bauxite and that too from varied sources. The technology employed in the Alumina Refineries depends on the Bauxite processed, with an ultimate view to produce alumina of required quality in the most efficient manner. Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM) had from time to time put forward bauxite specifications for metallurgical and other applications. However, these are found no fully based on alumina technology, present developments and availability of different types of bauxite in the country. The aim of this paper is to provide scheme of metallurgical grading of Indian Bauxite based on the background of alumina processing technologies and availability of various types of bauxite in the country. Efforts are made here to evaluate beneficiation techniques for central Indian Bauxite from the point of view of alumina production.
