Vanadium ore is widely distributed in black rock series (Fan, Zhang and Ye, 2004) in many provinces of China, which accounts for 87% (Zuo, Peng and Dugang, 2001) of vanadium reserves in China. In Cambrian black rock series in south Qinling Mountain, there are large or medium-sized sedimentary deposits such as Zhongcun vanadium deposit, Yinhua vanadium deposit, Qianjiaping vanadium deposit, Xiajiadian gold-vanadium deposit and Lengshuigou vanadium deposit. The vanadium is distributed in other minerals mainly in the form of isomorphic replacement. These types of ore are characterized by no independent vanadium mineral, low grade and vast reserves. Now in China the vanadium extraction technology is backward with low utilization rate of resources. The difficulties of vanadium extraction from black rock series are that the enrichment by means of mechanical beneficiation is difficult; the cost of direct chemical extraction is high and the emission of waste gas from pyrogenic process does not conform to environmental protection standard. Therefore the study of vanadium occurrence, the improvement & optimization of vanadium extraction technology and the realization of pollution-free and low-cost extraction of vanadium from black rock series are of great and realistic importance for environment-friendly exploitation & utilization of vanadium resource in China. The study is based on carbon content in ore of Cambrian black rock series in south Qinling Mountain. Two kinds of ore are selected. Vanadium ore with low carbon content (TC<1%) is taken as Sample 1 while vanadium ore with high carbon content (TC>10%) as Sample 2. Based on analysis of ore?s lithologic features and vanadium?s occurrence, a vanadium extraction technological process characterized by selective grinding, low cost and no pollution is proposed.

More than 50% of all the molybdenum produced in the world is a by-product of copper production. A bulk Cu-Mo concentrate is first produced, which is subsequently separated into Cu and Mo concentrates. The Cu-Mo separation circuits rely on the use of inorganic Cu sulfide depressants such as NaSH, Na2S, and Nokes, which are hazardous, and sometimes require very large dosages for effective depression. Synthetic polymeric depressants are safer and more efficient, and are now being used on the plant-scale. Data presented in this paper demonstrates that these polymeric depressants can replace 50-90% of all the NaSH in Cu-Mo separation at a fraction of the NaSH dosage. In this paper we provide an overview of the mechanistic and practical aspects of the Cu-Mo separation with inorganic depressants and polymeric depressants. Important practical aspects include depression dynamics (related to conditioning time and rate of depression), optimum pH for effective separation, the role of pH modifiers such as lime and NaOH, and the effect of flotation gas on the efficacy of the separation. Using nitrogen as flotation gas, the NaSH consumption can be reduced by up to 95% by using a small amount of polymeric depressant. The experiments with conditioning time demonstrate that there is a significant rate component to the depression mechanism with NaSH, which is absent for the polymeric depressant system. This has important implications in the effective use and application of the depressant. It is also demonstrated that the pH modifier type (NaOH or Ca(OH)2) has no significant effect on separation efficiency and Mo recovery (i.e. Ca2+ ions do not depress MoS2 in the Cu-Mo separation).

"For non-sulphide minerals such as oxidized minerals, fluoride minerals, and oxysalt minerals, there are generality in the molecular structure of their floating collectors, and similarity in crystal structure of the minerals. In the paper, adsorbing mechanism of these collectors on the surface of these mineral particles in different pH pulp was investigated by means of Pauling's rules & valence bond theory, Valence-shell electron pair repulsion theory (VSEPR) theory, Crystal and ligand field theory, and quantum chemistry simulation by DMol3 and CASTEP modules of Material Studio software. Besides, the role and status of hydrogen bond in the floating adsorption mechanism were studied emphatically, and the confirmation and characterization of hydrogen bond were explored also based on the test results. What is more, the conclusion “the effect of hydrogen bond can not be overlooked in adsorbing mechanism of flotation collectors on the minerals” and a new viewpoint of multi-polarity collaboration and hydrogen bond coupling were summarized eventually based on analysis of the measurements. Finally, a novel collector 2-Amino-3-Methyl Heptyloxy-Propylamine (AMHP) was developed based on the new viewpoint of molecular structure design, and its collecting performance was exhibited.INTRODUCTIONWhen it comes to the recovery of flotation, it is necessary for researchers to investigate the flotation mechanism of collectors. In traditional theory, when collectors were used to collect minerals, the attractions between collectors and minerals were divided into chemical, electrostatic and physical attractions (Wills, B.A., 2006). Especially, because of the reaction between sulphide minerals and sulphydryl collectors is complex and various mechanism has been proposed (Yoon and Basilio, 1993), when collectors were used to collect non-sulfide minerals, it can be classified into oxyhydryl anionic collectors and cationic collectors. In traditional theory, the adsorption of oxyhydryl anionic collectors were due to water-repulsion, and the adsorption of cationic collectors were due to electrostatic attraction between the polar head of the collector and the charged electrical double layer on the mineral surface (Wills, B.A., 2006)."

"This study was done from a sample of coal mined at the Vale-Mozambique mine, located in Moatize district, Tete Province. The aim of this work is to analyze the reagent system in the flotation of coal fines belonging to the Upper Chipanga layer (UC). Among coal processing methods, flotation stands out as one of the most important for the concentration of this material, in particular in the treatment of fine particles. The total feed of the Vale-Mozambique processing plant is 8,000 tph of coal, where 10% of this feed corresponds to the fine fraction that feeds the flotation circuit. The material used in this study had a particle size of 96% smaller than 0.25 mm. The reagents used in the flotation tests were betacol and diesel oil as hydrophobizing agents and MIBC as frother. The range of betacol concentrations in the first test phase was 200 g/t to 500 g/t, and in the second phase 200g /t to 500g /t while diesel oil and MIBC were kept constant at 300 g/t. The immediate analysis followed the Brazilian standards NBR 8289, NBR 8293, NBR 8290; and NBR 8299. The results showed that it is possible, from a feed with ash content around 22.84%, to obtain products with levels below of 10% ash, with a mass recovery around 50%. The recovery of carbonaceous matter was also evaluated and presented positive results. Complementing this study, the effect of H2O recovery was evaluated and it was observed that for the concentrations of betacol the recoveries ranged from 6 to 9%, and for diesel oil plus MIBC were 4 to 7%.INTRODUCTION Considering the increase in population and energy consumption as humanity has been living along the last decades and the consequent demand for non-renewable natural resources, it is clear the challenge of the mineral industry in the search for new technologies and improvement of the existing ones. This challenge is justified by the need for better industrial results and to meet the market specifications, taking into account the reduction of deposits with higher contents and the need for beneficiation of more complex ores, lower levels and lower release granulometry. Usually in these situations, processes already well-established as the gravimetric (Sampaio and Tavares, 2005) have not good results."

Kumistinskoye gold- and silver bearing ores (Republic of Kazakhstan) as well as standardized test solutions containing gold, silver, copper, zinc and iron were studied. The best results in silver and gold recovery from Kumistinskoye gold- and silver bearing ores were achieved through use of complex cyanide-thiosulfate solutions as compared to individual cyanide solutions and thiosulfate solutions. It was found that such complex solutions substantially step up leaching process herewith increasing precious metals recovery rates. Thermodynamics of studied chemical processes was calculated. Reaction order, kinetic constant and activation energy of gold leaching process through use of cyanide-thiosulfate solutions were identified. We managed to prove that the sorption rates and holding capacity in process of gold anions recovery with anionite AM-2B are comparable to sorption characteristics for cyanide solutions. The results of the test work on gold leaching using high strength of cyanide solution in the presence of activators are presented. The major physical and chemical relationships of gold leaching were determined. Intensive cyanidation results of gravity concentrates with various material compositions using an activator are given. During the mineral processing of pyrites sulphide ores of some deposits of Russia loss of gold with tailings and pyrite concentrates amounts up to 40%~90%. The problem of selective allocation of gold-bearing pyrite is crucial. There are 4 mineralogy-technological groups of pyrite determined in copper-zinc sulphide ores, based on the increase of contents of gold in pyrite. The gold associated with group 4 pyrite contents of 85% the total mass of gold found in the pyrite. The flotation behaviour of the enriched fractions of pyrite (98%), of the allocated from the ore of Gay deposit, were studied essentially in various conditions ?? and the charge of Butyl xanthogenate of potassium (ButX). Some products of selective pyrite flotation were investigated by methods of scanning electronic microscopy, energy-dispersive and X-ray spectral microanalyses, definition of specific resistance and thermoelectric moving force.

In this paper, numerical simulation of magnetite, medium segregation and coal partitioning have been made in a 350 mm diameter cyclone. An attempt is made to assess the nature of impairment in efficiency in relation to the increasing amount of near gravity materials in coal. The CFD model approaches the Algebraic Mixture (ASM) model with the granular option and Reynolds stress model (RSM) to resolve the air core and turbulent mixing of the medium and coal particles. The partition characteristics of the DMC were modelled using both Lagrangian & Eulerian particle tracking for particles ranging in size from 0.5 to 8 mm and in density from 1200 to 2000 kg.m-3. Lagrangian frame work based Discrete Phase model used to simulate the coal particle trajectories inside the DMC and attempted to understand the residence time of different size and density coal particles. It was observed that coal particles having density near to separation-density (having fifty percent of probability to under flow and overflow) are exhibiting increased residence time than any density particles. As expected the smaller size coal particles shows higher residence time than the coarse coal particles. CFD simulations on effect of NGM mass fraction are simulated and analyzed using ASM model including for coal and magnetite. Coal particles with high NGM content show significant effect in misplacement of coal particles towards wrong products at all relative densities. The residence time of the particles increases because of its increased interaction with near dense particles. The effect of NGM fraction on overall cyclone performance as well as detailed flow assessment in terms of residence time distribution, NGM particle concentration profiles with respect to LZVV is presented.

Results of the study of chloride ion concentration effect to osmium-187 sorption from wastewater of copper smelter with use of foreign anionites of different basicity and structure are presented in the work. It was found that the increase of chloride ion concentration in the wastewater helps to increase recovery of osmium using anionites regardless of their nature. The ways to intensify the process are proposed. The method for osmium elution from the anionites with potassium iodate solution was developed. It was shown that the method lets to recover up to 99% of osmium from the anionites. Recommendations for selection of eluents for better recovery of osmium from the anionites were elaborated. It is a well-known fact that usage of reverse cationic flotation in magnetite ores processing enables to improve the quality of magnetite concentrates. We designed an iron ore concentrate technology (with 70 -71 % of iron) including reverse cationic flotation in pneumo-mechanical flotators RIF (developed by RIVS Corporation, Russia) with good biodegradable etheramines as collectors for flotation of quartz. Practical application of high biodegradable flotation reagents decreases environmental impact risk of objects and enterprises of mining industrial complex. This work presents results of development of flotation technology for production of high quality ferruginous concentrates from magnetite ores of Russia and Ukraine deposits. Luossavaara-Kiirunavaara AB (LKAB) operates an iron ore mine, three beneficiation plants and three pelletizing plants in Kiruna, Sweden. The current methods of separation in the beneficiation plants are wet low intensity magnetic separation (WLIMS) and reverse apatite flotation, where the WLIMS stage is regarded as the crucial part of silica separation from the ore. Currently, the high-grade iron ore deposit of Kiirunavaara has a low grade of silica in situ, of approximately 3.0% SiO2, but the silica grade is expected to increase in the deeper parts of the deposit with a complex silicate mineralogy. An increasing silica grade will affect especially the production of direct reduction pellets (LKAB DR Oxide Pellets), one of the main products of LKAB in Kiruna with an average silica grade of under 0.75% SiO2. The silica grade in the magnetite concentrate is normally limited to a maximum level of 0.55% SiO2 in order to achieve the required chemical composition in the pelletizing process. In order to study the possibility to reduce silicate content in the magnetite concentrate (pellet feed) in the beneficiation plants in Kiruna obtained by wet low intensity magnetic separation (WLIMS), enlarged mineral processing test work was carried out in the LKAB’s mineral processing laboratories in 2016. The test work consisted of comminution, low intensity magnetic separation and reverse cationic silicate flotation at laboratory scale, complemented by screen analysis, chemical assays and mineralogical investigation. The results of these mineral processing test work showed that the magnetic separation is not sufficient to reduce the silica content in the magnetite concentrate, particularly in the case of the high-SiO2 ore type B2-a. The reverse cationic flotation can be regarded as a possible solution to reduce the silicate content in the magnetite concentrate obtained by WLIMS and to achieve the required silica grade of less than 0.55 % SiO2 in the pellet feed. The results of this study provide a good basis to understand the behaviour of different silicates in the existing beneficiation process. Furthermore, it serves valuable information for development of new beneficiation processes and for investment in new equipment at the beneficiation plants in Kiruna in the future.

Alkyl hydroxamic acid was shown to be a suitable collector for the flotation of pyrochlore from carbonatite niobium oxide ores. In the direct batch rougher flotation from the ore without desliming, over 85% of the pyrochlore can be recovered at about 30% mass pull. Cleaner flotation tests showed that the rougher concentrate can be upgraded. The adsorption mechanisms of octyl hydroxamic acid (OHA) were studied by using high purity pyrochlore and calcite mineral samples and employing analytical measurements such as Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and UV/VIS spectroscopy. FTIR showed a shift of the vibrational frequencies of the carbonyl group in hydroxamic acid after adsorption on pyrochlore and calcite, and the shift was more pronounced on pyrochlore. XPS results indicated a lowering of the binding energies (chemical shift) of Nb3d5/2 and Ca2p3/2 electrons on pyrochlore, and the lowering of the binding energies of Ca2p3/2 electrons on calcite, again with the shift being more pronounced on pyrochlore. The results indicated hydroxamic acid formed stronger complexes with pyrochlore than with calcite. Adsorption isotherms indicated that OHA adsorbed more on pyrochlore than on calcite at low concentration. At high concentrations, the adsorption densities on both minerals were similar. All results explained the observed selectivity of the reagents in the flotation of the carbonatite niobium oxide ores.

The paper presents the modeling and analysis of oxidation of pyrite copper-zinc ore samples from the Letnee, Yaman-Kasy and Valentorskoye deposits. It is found, that the oxidized samples contain copper and zinc sulfates that are leached under the sample and water contact. It is shown, that sulfide floatability is decreased by the longer-term oxidation.We advise to improve nonferrous metals recovery by joint leaching and ultrasonic treatment of oxidized compounds. Study of the geotechnological processes of non-ferrous metal extraction, on the basis of two copper-zinc ore deposits shows, that heap leaching is of little use for the ores of the Letnee deposit. Leaching results for the Yaman-Kasy ore showed more promise.

Usually magnetic separation is performed to separate ferromagnetic, paramagnetic and diamagnetic particles by controlling magnetic field strength. In this research the wet high gradient magnetic separation at various kinds of magnetization of medium has been investigated to separate different kinds of magnetization of paramagnetic mineral particles from each other. Most of week paramagnetic particles are captured at high magnetic field using superconducting magnet. If the magnetization of fluid is larger than that of paramagnetic particle, the paramagnetic particle cannot be captured in the direction of magnetic field. The paramagnetic particles of different magnetization such as hematite, chromium oxide, perovskite and rutile are separated in different magnetization of fluids. These particles are present in the incinerated bottom ash. The separation is useful to recover titanium oxide from bottom ash and the removal of chromium of bottom ash is important to reuse the bottom ash as cement. The used fluids are paramagnetic liquids dissolving paramagnetic salts and the water based magnetic fluid dispersing the stable ultrafine magnetite. The dispersion condition of particles related to zeta-potential of the suspension feed is also important to separate effectively by controlling pH

"At present, flotation rate characterization follows standard measurements to identify the overall flotation performance looking at the feed, tailings and concentrate in flotation cells or banks. This classical approach does not take into account the evolution of the true collection rate down the flotation banks explicitly. The potential for identifying the impact of the mineral characteristics (size and liberation) as well as the effect of different manipulated variables (reagents, froth depth, gas dispersion) on the true flotation process remains hindered. Top-of-froth (TOF) measurements, which consist of sampling the first layer on the froth surface, have been used to characterize the mineral collected by true flotation in rougher banks. The information provided by TOF samples allows evaluating the floatable mineral evolution (grade, particle size, liberation) down the bank. In this work, an indirect approach to estimate the flotation rate along rougher flotation banks is proposed. The new approach is based on the decreasing of collected mineral grades (on top of froth) and the feed characteristics. Flotation rates per liberation classes were used to reconstruct the TOF grades from the feed information. This approach requires a simple froth surface sampling, without constraints typically observed during mass balance surveys and uncertainties on the mineral recovery estimation. The proposed methodology was successfully applied at industrial scale using TOF measurements together with QEMSCAN information."

Synthetic water with a calcium concentration of 80 ppm and 500 ppm was prepared and the flotation results obtained compared to a simple electrolyte in order to determine the effect water quality has on pentlandite and pyroxene surface alteration and, ultimately, floatability. During the study, the possible effect of interactions between the minerals investigated and Ca2+ ions in the presence of sodium isobutyl xanthate was studied at pH 6 and pH 9 by means of zeta potential determinations, microflotation tests and ToF-SIMS analysis. The results obtained have demonstrated that water quality does play a significant role in flotation recovery at the experimental conditions used.

This paper presents a theoretical investigation on the ionic equilibrium of Fe(III)?Ni(II)?H2SO4?H2O system. A non-ideal speciation model is developed to calculate the concentration distribution of iron and nickel species in a mixed ferric and nickel sulphate aqueous solution over the pH range from 0 to 4 and temperature from 25 to 100°C. A series of speciation diagrams for iron and nickel species is plotted with the effects of ionic strength and temperature on the equilibrium constants being taken into account. The ionic strength-dependent equilibrium constant is treated through a semi-empirical Vasil&apos;eV equation, which is based on an extended Debye?Hückel theory. A Helgeson model is applied to extrapolate the equilibrium constant to elevated temperature. The ionic equilibrium reactions are described by a group of numerical equations containing the temperature and ionic strength-dependent equilibrium constants, which are solved by the Newton-Raphson method. The speciation model is also applied to estimate the hydrogen ion activities and corresponding pH values. The calculated pH values are in agreement with the experimentally measured pH, and are compared to literature data and pH values produced by the Visual MINTEQ® program (a computer code for the calculation of chemical equilibrium in natural aqueous system). This investigation provides a deep insight into the ionic equilibrium behavior of a mixed metal sulphate aqueous system which commonly occurs in hydrometallurgical processing. This paper is aimed to elucidate the problem of copper losses in pyrometallurgical slag. Currently, flotation is used to recover copper from the slag and return the metal into the pyrometallurgical process, but the percentage of recovery frequently remains unacceptable. The process of copper leaching from the slag flotation tailings using biologically regenerated ferric sulfate is considered here as an approach to the issue. A sample of the slag flotation tailings containing 0.67% Cu and 4.99% Zn was supplied by the Urals Mining and Metallurgical Company (UGMK, Russia). The Cu and Zn speciation analysis of the sample demonstrated that Cu occurred as 58.1% oxide, 15.4% native Cu, and 18.1% secondary sulfides whereas chalcopyrite proportion was as low as 8.4%. Prevailing Zn species were refractory (58.9% Zn ferrite), and zinc oxide and silicate species made just 37.2% of the total metal content. The silicate generated silica gel that strongly hampered filtration. As demonstrated, Cu recovery is a possibility, which is apparently not the case with Zn. In this work, the stirred tank bioreactor acid leaching employing bacterial Fe3+ sulfate solutions was studied, with ferric sulfate being a product of Fe2+ biological oxidation and not the chemical reactant adding of Fe3+ sulfate. Acidithiobacillus, Sulfobacillus, and Leptospirillum bacilli were employed in Fe2+ biooxidation. Temperature, pH, Eh, S:L ratio, leaching time, and Fe3+ concentration in the source leachate as the process controls were considered. As demonstrated, the process employing biologically regenerated ferric sulfate proved to be more efficient than conventional chemical leaching. Under the optimum conditions, the proportion of Cu extracted into leachate during 2 hours was 79.1%, and that of Zn 27.2%. Precipitation of high-grade Cu sulfide served to extract the metals from the leachate, and Cu extraction was 99.7%. All in all, 23.2% Cu, 0.03% Zn, and 0.02% Fe was returned into the pyrometallurgical process. Keywords: slag flotation tailings, copper leaching

In skarn type scheelite deposit, there are calcium minerals with floatability similar to scheelite, such as calcite, fluorite, etc., which are difficult to separate. Heating cleaning method developed by Petrov has been widely applied in processing rough concentrate of scheelite for nearly half a century, but there exists a general lack of full understanding of the interaction between floatation reagent and mineral particles surfaces. The mechanism on separation of scheelite and calcium minerals in heating cleaning process was investigated by mineral flotation experiments, XPS analysis, as well as solution chemistry and crystal chemistry calculations. The results showed that the sequence of minerals floatability using sodium oleate as collector and a large amount of sodium silicate as modifier in heating flotation test was scheelite > calcite > fluorite, which was the same as solution chemistry calculations based on Gibbs free energy vs. pH and also the same as Ca-X intensity order by crystal chemistry analysis. There are two sides about the mechanism of heating cleaning method: one is that the adsorbed collector on calcium minerals surface is desorbed more easily than scheelite, and the other is selective dissolution of calcium ions from the mineral surface because of Ca-X intensity difference in heating and stirring process.
