"Brunswick Mining and Smelting Corporation Ltd. (controlled by Noranda Mines Limited) operates two lead-zinccopper- silver mines approximately 20 miles inland from Bathurst, N.B. The principal No. 12 orebody is mined by underground methods; the second, the No. 6 orebody (6 miles away), is recovered by open-pit mining. No. 12 underground operations ar•e in two parallel massive sulphide orebodies about 400 ft apart, dipping at 75 to 80 degrees and plunging almost vertically. The initial mining phase involved longhole open stoping from the 1550 level to the crown pillar, with main levels at 150-ft intervals and sub-levels between at 75 ft. Stope dimensions average 120 ft long, 100 ft wide and 400 ft high, with alternate rib pillars as well as sill and crown pillars. Initially, ore was transferred through scram drifts below each stope by means of 125-hp electric slushers and 72-in. folding scrapers, being delivered to gravity ore-pass collection •systems feeding a primary jaw crusher below. Later, track and trackless drawpoints were utilized below most longhole open stopes and pillars. Rib pillars were recovered by longhole methods, with large blasts into a central slot and undercut, after adjacent stopes had been filled. Waste-rock stripping from No. 6 open pit has been supplied to No. 12 stopes as backfill, by means of gravityfill raises.In 1968, the decision was made to mine the remaining ore zones by mechanized cut-and-fill methods, utilizing Load-Haul-Dump equipment. Currently, approximately 60 per cent of No. 12 mine production comes from mechanized cut-and-fill mining. As before, backfill is supplied from No. 6 open pit stripping waste rock, which has been crushed to minus 6 in. The ultimate objective is to supply virtually all production requirements by mechanized cut-and-fill techniques. The No. 6 open pit, which commenced production in 1966, covers an area of 1,500 by 1,200 ft, equivalent to 41 acres approximately. Ramp roads are graded at 8.5 per cent. Each mining bench is 36 ft high and the ultimate pit will consist of 14 benches for a final pit depth of 504 ft. Present depth is 180 ft."

A Research on iron blast-furnace slags has been in progress since 1922 in the metallurgical department of the University of Wisconsin, supplemented by observations, tests and critical examination of operating records at 10 furnaces. From the data thus collected information has been put into forms suitable for use by furnace operators and is given in this report and the three accompanying papers.' In the viscosity results reported, it is estimated that temperatures were measured within 5" C. and that the viscosity determination of the particular slag investigated is accurate within ± 4 per cent. In the viscosity diagrams in the various papers, the equal viscosity lines were drawn in such a manner that in all cases they are located correctly with respect to the actual experimental results, but when determining a viscosity for a particular composition from the diagrams, the viscosity may. be slightly less accurate than the experimentally determined viscosity for the same slag, for the reason that the iso-vis lines interpolated between the experimental results may be shifted slightly without violation of the experimental data. The viscosity diagrams represent our judgment of their position under the above conditions, and we believe the relative accuracy of viscosity data taken from the diagrams is more than sufficient for any use to which the data may be put. Hundreds of samples of slags synthetically produced in the laboratory and of actual furnace slags have been studied in various ways. The ranges of compositions of slags used for viscosity measurements are: silica 25 to 55 per cent.; alumina 0 to 35 per cent.; lime 25 to 55 per cent.; magnesia 0 to 20 per cent. These measurements were made at temperatures of 1250°, 1300°, 1350°, 1400°, 1450°, 1500°, 1550°, 1600" and 1650" Centigrade. Many existing computer planning programs for the mining industry focus either on big mining enterprises with a high production rate or on smaller operations for high value minerals. Big mining enterprises, like the hardcoal company `Ruhrkohle AG' in Germany have their own R&D departments which develop powerful computer programs for planning purposes, partly in co-operation with mining universities. However, there is a remarkable number of small- scale mining operations which are either not able to buy expensive hard- and software or don't have the skills for the operation of extensive software programs. Partly there is also a trend in using rule of thumb calculations rather than computer programs which need a lot of - partly unavailable - data. For this reason a computer program was developed which does not need expensive hardware and software and which can help the planning engineer in the selection of a limited number of possibilities. Until this time the planning engineer established two or three different cases and calculated the results with a pocket calculator. This could last some hours or even some days. Now he or she can use the computer program with a normal PC to compare the cases. All activities are menu-driven. The basis for all, calculations are fixed and variable costs as well as average performance for special activities. The paper gives an example for a possible planning situation in fluorspar mining (originally this program was developed for the fluorspar enterprise Lengenfeld in Germany). It shows the initial situation, the main structure of the program, the input logic and the results. Benefits, limits and possible extensions of the program are discussed.

To plan a safe and efficient coal mining operation, the design engineer should use all the available information regarding the property to be exploited. The reliability of the mining operation must be as high as possible so that the plants relying on the coal can operate at the maximum design capacity. A good design should incorporate all of the known geological characteristics of the deposit, the structural and physical properties of the coal, as well as the rock which will form the roof and floor of the mine openings. A systematic method is proposed as a guide to insure a mine design that will be safe, efficient and will minimize surface disturbances resulting from mining operations. It is anticipated that the method proposed will result in maximum extraction at perhaps minimum cost to the operator. In general, to develop a mining area, several factors are systematically reviewed: (1) determination of the economic minability of the deposit, (2) the computation of the coal reserves, (3) the marketability of the coal, and (4) the life of the property. In general, boreholes are drilled in a predetermined pattern and geophysical or geological methods are used to log the boreholes. The information so obtained is primarily used to determine the quality and the extent of the deposit and to determine to some extent such geological features as faults, barren areas, washouts, and channels.

This paper focuses on the seasonal thermo-mechanical response of two energy foundations installed at the new Denver Housing Authority Senior Living Facility in Denver, Colorado. The two drilled shaft foundations, which have diameters of 36 inches and depths of 45 ft and are end bearing in the Denver shale formation, include a closed-loop series of polyethylene tubes through which fluid is circulated to exchange heat with the surrounding ground. The tubes within the foundations are coupled together with the conventional ground source heat pump system for the building and were installed to evaluate the heat exchange response of the foundations as well as any thermo-mechanical soil-structure interaction effects. A series of vibrating wire strain gages and thermistors were installed at different depths in the foundation to record the thermo-mechanical strain and temperature at different depths. Also, pipe-plug thermocouples are used to measure the inlet and outlet temperature of the heat exchanger fluid entering each of the foundations, which is necessary to evaluate the total heat exchange for the foundations and the efficiency of the heat pump. This paper will describe the energy foundation construction processes, the strain distribution and ambient temperature profiles during building construction and the seasonal strain and temperature distributions during heating and cooling of the building. The data indicates that typical heat exchange associated with heating and cooling operations leads to strains which are within acceptable limits, and that the foundations can provide a clear option for absorbing the base heating and cooling load for the building.

The new geophone described herein was developed by Charles H. Hull, instrumentmaker of the Colorado School of Mines, and the writer. The first geophone was invented during the war for the purpose of detecting enemy sapping or underground mining operations and for locating enemy artillery. It is based on the principle of the seismograph—a heavy lead mass suspended by one or two diaphragms, which are clamped to an air-tight case. When the ground vibrates during the transmission of sound waves, the case moves with it while the so-called steady mass remains practically motionless. Attached to the top of the casing is a hose leading to an earpiece shaped like a stethoscope. When the mass and the diaphragm move up and down in the case, the air is compressed and rarified in the inside; thus the vibration is communicated as sound wave to the human ear. The geophone combines a surprising simplicity of construction with an extreme sensitivity. Other listening instruments were developed during the war, adaptations of the telephone and the microphone—that is, instruments operating through the medium of electricity—of which the so-called seismicrophone, an adaptation of the carbon-granule microphone receiver, probably has found the greatest application, but such instruments apparently have not proved as useful as the simple geophone despite obvious advantages arising from the use of electricity. The carbon receivers were more subject to extraneous noises and to what is called "frying," and they did not offer the advantage possessed by the geophone; namely, the simultaneous use of two receivers, which makes it possible to determine the location of the source of sound. During the war, the U. S. Bureau of Mines made a study of the geophone and of the propagation of sound waves through rock. These studies have been continued, as the earlier results proved the possibility of using the geophone in various non-military ways, principally in mining, and the results of these studies have been published.'

Chromium alloys were coated with silicon, alumi-nuw, and boron by pack cementation. None of these simple coatings provided adequate nitridation/oxida-tion protection for a Cr -0.17pct Y alloy substrate as shown by a substantial Increase in the ductile -brittle transition temperature after air exposure for 100 hr at 2100°F. Iron-modified silicide coatings afforded good protection, holding the transition temperature of air-exposed specimens to 350° F compared to 200° F for uncoated unexposed specimens and 800°F for un-coated exposed specimens. Additional attractive cant-binations of modi-tying elements included Fe-mo, Fe-Mo-W, Fe-,Mo-W-Ti, and V-Mo-W-Ti. THE desirability of increased operating tempera-tures as a mcans of improving the performance of ad-vanced air breathing engines has resulted in emphasis on the development of materials with high operating temperature capabilities. Chromium, because of its relatively low density (7.19 g per cu cm), high melt-ing point (3410°F), and adequate strength upon alloy-ing, is a candidate material for turbine buckets and stator vanes of advanced air breathing engines. How-even, chromium is not without severe limitations, the major one being susceptibility to nitrogen embrittle-ment upon exposure to air at high temperatures.1,2 For example, a 25-hr air exposure of a Cr-5 pct W* * All compositions in wt pct. alloy at 2100°F produces a 600°F increase in the duc-tile-brittle transition temperature.' Although dilute alloying with such elements as yttrium, lanthanum, arid thorium3,4 or strong nitride formers5 has been shown capable of reducing nitrogen embrittlement, it is apparent that some additional form of surface protection, such as coatings or claddings, will be required for long time service in air breathing engines. Studies of aluiminide6 and silicide7 coatings and of nickel-base claddingsl on chromium alloys to date have suggested that these protection systems are inadequate. Of the aluminidc systems Studied,6 a simple aluminum and an Fe-Al coating on a Cr-5 pct W-0.1 pct Y alloy showed the lowest air exposure weight gains. However, the air exposures raised the ductile-brittle transition temperature of the coated specimens to above 1600°F from an initial level in unexposed specimens of about 500°F. A second in-vestigation for protection of Cr-5 pct W-0.1 pct Y employed gas pressure bonded alloy foils as protective claddings.1 An aluminized Ni-20 pct Cr-20 pct W alloy plus an unalloyed tungsten barrier layer gave the best performance with air exposure lives based on appearance and weight gains of over 600 hr at 2100°F. Over the past three decades, the U.S. coal mining industry has widely used cable supports to supplement traditional primary bolting systems, especially in difficult ground conditions. However, increased mining activity in adverse conditions has underscored the limited effectiveness of the non-tensioned, partially grouted cable supports used to supplement primary bolts. Roof failures in conditions such as corrosive environments, highly laminated strata, low overburden depth and water intrusion have demonstrated that the need for cable technology has reached beyond the traditional non-tensioned, partially-grouted cable tendon. Furthermore, declining market conditions and increased competition for coal customers has demanded that new cable bolt technology be costeffective and readily adaptable to the mining cycle. Jennmar Corporation has developed several cable bolt technologies that can be used as stand-alone solutions or in concert with one another to mitigate adverse conditions. These technologies include rapid tensioning of cable supports, structural surface control and polyurethane injection. The case studies presented in this paper use one or more of these technologies to address adverse mining conditions or special ground control problems.

Optimism over the continued growth of coal ex- ports received a significant shot in the arm September 18 at Norfolk, Va., when huge, new ship coal-loading facilities of the Norfolk & Western Railway were formally dedicated before a large audience of American and foreign dignitaries. Guest of Honor at the occasion was Christian A. Herter, Special Representative for Trade Negotiations, who, in a speech, stated, "The prospects for the expansion of our coal exports are excellent. The competitive pricing and high quality of our coals, whether for the production of coke for steel mills or for the generation of electric power, have won the respect of consumers everywhere in the world. Last year, the United States coal industry exported over 40 million net tons. . . . There are excellent reasons to believe that by 1970 we shall be exporting at double this rate."

In 1910, he was with the Hidalgo Guadalupe, Pachuca, Mexico, and in 1911 was engineer with the Gualcola Mines Co., at Tuquerres, Colombia. In 1913, he returned to the Sout.hwest, and was employed for that yea.r by the Inspiration Cons. Copper Co. at Miami, and in the middle of the following year he became engineer with the Detroit Copper Co., at Morenci. In the autumn of 1914, Mr. Reece, stirred by his English blood, resolved to return to England to take part in the war. At this time he wrote "I think it will be better for me to resign my membership. If I come through all right, I will apply for re-election." The Institute, however, instead of accepting Mr. Reece's resignation, voted him an indefinite leave of absence, and this precedent soon crystallized into the regular procedure, now in force, of remitting the dues of members in active service. On Dec. 17, 1914, he wrote from Montreal that he fully expected to go over shortly in the second contingent from Canada, with Borden's Armored Brigade, operating with armored motor cars. As he said "this will be active enough service to satisfy any enthusiast, as they are used generally for reconnaissance duty." Soren Ringlund Soren Ringlund died suddenly on July 24, 1918, at Fort Logan, Colo., where he was engaged in service with the Medical Department of the U. S. Army. Although pig iron from iron ore and red cedar charcoal preceded the mining of coal by many years, for tradition says that Alabama iron was used to shoe the horses of Andrew Jackson's soldiers, coal was not produced until 1830. In that year, coal was mined in Tuscaloosa County, in the vicinity of what is now the University of Alabama, and shipped on flat boats (obviously during the wet season, for there were many shoals) down the Warrior River to Mobile. About that time, the first railroad, the Decatur & Tecumseh, was being constructed in northern Alabama to overcome the obstructions to freight traffic caused by the now well-known Muscle Shoals in the Tennessee River. This railroad was patterned after a railroad at Mauch Chunk, Pa., which was used for hauling anthracite from the Panther Creek valley. The Alabama railroad, which required about four years to complete, was 46 miles long and was used solely for the transportation of cotton. Although it was a failure, it demonstrated the practicability of the undertaking, and the succeeding railroads, which were begun in 1834, 1848, 1852, and 1853, added immeasurably to the development of the coal resources of the state. Between the years 1830 and 1860, practically all the coal mined in the state was dug from the outcrop near the river or from the river beds, and shipped by boat to Mobile. Transporting coal down the Warrior River was an undertaking of great risk, required much skill, and frequently had heavy losses. It is recorded that this coal was sold to the gas company in Mobile in 1844; it was most likely mined from the Black Creek Seam. In 1914, on the completion of Lock 17, the Warrior River became a navigable stream from 9 miles above Cordova, Ala., to Mobile and offers a great opportunity for the future development of the coal resources of the state. Coke for foundry use was first made in Alabama in 1855. It was 21 years later, however, in 1876, that pig iron was made from Alabama ore with Alabama coal.

It is evident that, as the size and weight of cars have increased, the demands on the cast-iron car-wheel have become more and more severe. Fortunately, the factor of safety in the cast-iron wheel, as originally made, was so large that it was only when freight-cars approached the capacity of from 80,000 to 100,000 lb. that the question of wheels began to give some anxiety. A moment's thought will show that, as freight- and passenger-cars have increased in weight and size, a much greater duty is required of the same eight wheels than was formerly the case. In other words, although the cars have increased in capacity from 15 tons to 50 tons each, the number of wheels under a car has not been generally increased. It is true, some cars have been equipped with 12 wheels, but this construction is not the rule. Hence the duty which the wheel must perform has become much more severe, and although it was clearly able to stand some increase, there must evidently be a limit somewhere which cannot be exceeded. Meanwhile, it is the part of wisdom to make better wheels if possible, and accordingly, no little study is now being devoted to the requirements for cast-iron car-wheels; and modifications are being made, both by increasing the weight of the wheel and by improving the quality of the metal of which it is made. The desire to improve the quality of the wheel has led to the preparation of specifications for its manufacture; and within the last 15 years a more rigid scrutiny of the wheel is char-

Ore grinding mills are really just slowly rotating barrels, but barrels that are growing in size so fast that the application of electric drives for them is rapidly approaching a technology like that for wind tunnels or pumped storage drives. This application is particularly worthy of care because some 40% of the 75 megawatts of power used by a large copper ore concentrator, or some 60% of the 200 megawatts supplied to a large iron ore concentrator, are for grinding. These ore plants are located where the ore is, not where a utility happens to be. So, the challenge is not only to choose a drive and .power transmission for reasonable cost, high performance, reliability and minimum maintenance, but to afford the interface between mill drive and power distribution and source systems to minimize the whole ore plant's monthly power bill, or costs of self generation. Conclusions can be reached in optimizing a drive selection only for each particular ore plant's set of parameters, but by identifying the criteria for selection and then weighting each type of drive per criteria, yardsticks for final choice become apparent. This is the purpose of this paper. Grinding action takes place inside the barrel, where the ore charge is ground with the aid of balls, or mill length rods, or large chunks of ore as in autogenous grinding.

FOR many years basic control of refinery operations depended on visual observation of small chill specimens poured at various intervals during processing. The oseto of these samples was related to the physical and chemical properties of the metal. Since the =setn is dependent on many factors other than oxygen content, this method, while giving a general indication of the condition of the copper, does not accurately measure the oxygen content. For the last 3 years a modified vacuum fusion procedure which enables the operator to determine the oxygen content of the copper within 1 5 min of sampling has been in use at the Westinghouse Copper Mill. For use with this apparatus a sampling technique has been developed which gives oxygen values representative of the oxygen content of the wire bar. The sampling technique is based on a statistical study, which compared the oxygen content of the laboratory sample of copper poured at the same time a wire bar was being poured, with the oxygen content of the wire bar. The apparatus used for the determination of oxygen in copper is shown in Fig. 1 and is essentially the same as previously described but with one important modification. A very porous fritted glass disc has been inserted in the tubing between the manom- eter and 40/50 ground glass joint. The fritted disc retains the copper vapor and copper particles in the furnace section and prevents contamination of the mercury in the manometer. Without the disc the manometer became difficult to read after a few weeks of operation. In earlier work1 it had been established that the simplified vacuum fusion apparatus used at the Copper Mill gave essentially the same results as a con-vential vacuum fusion apparatus. However, for this study it was necessary to determine the difference, if any, between the oxygen content of the wire bar and the oxygen content of the small chill sample used for the oxygen analysis. This correlation was established by taking a chill sample at the same time wire bars were being poured. The wire bar being poured at the time the chill sample was taken was marked and removed for further analysis. The copper is sampled at various times during refining and cast into laboratory size samples with the mold shown in Fig. 2. The mold is made of cold rolled steel and is 2 in. high and 2 1/2 in. in diam. The large upper portion of the cast sample is used for measurement of the conductivity of the copper, The lower portion which is a rod about 1/4 in. diam by 3/4 in. long is used for determination of the oxygen content. This portion of the sample weighs about 5 g which is approximately the size sample used for the analysis. The only preparation neces-

This paper provides a brief overview of the history of the Chaffers Dewatering Project which was successfully commissioned in August 1993. Until the end of 1992 the `Superpit' and the deep mines of the Golden Mile had all been dewatered by a staged pumping system from the 28 level in the Lake View Shaft, which was removed at that time when the Lake View Mine was absorbed into the Superpit. Feasibility analysis had indicated that adaptation of oil industry technology offered the greatest potential for a low cost solution to the problem of dewatering the open pit and deep mines. A KCGM engineer and one of the authors visited the Jackson oilfields to look at the deep well pumping technology in use there in early-1991. In the final analysis a new dewatering station was established in the 23 level crushing station of the Chaffers Shaft using conventional plunger pumps, but the rising main was screwed 178 mm OD (7 inch) casing the suspended from the surface to a depth of 686 metres, and was installed using oilfield personnel and methods. Only the second installation of its kind in Australia, the project achieved the dewatering objective at about half of the capital cost of the more conventional approach and at lower operating costs as well.

Suggestions have been made at various times that there may be a recurrence of lodes similar to those at Kalgoorlie in the country to the south of the Golden Mile, but, so far as is known, there has been no geological evidence to support these suggestions apart from the possible extension of the younger quartz-dolerite greenstone in this direction.Geological mapping carried out by the writer in the Coolgardie district in 1946, provided some additional geological evidence to support this claim, and the ideas then held have since been expanded and are now considered to be sufficiently advanced to present them as concrete suggestions. As will be seen from the following pages, the critical area for lode prospecting is Hannan's Lake, where the basement rocks may include younger quartz dolerite greenstone, which, although perhaps distributed over a smaller area than at Kalgoorlie, could, on structural grounds, have a similar fracture system and similar ore deposition.There is little need to stress the importance discoveries in this area would have in prolonging the life of the field, and stimulating the post-war gold mining revival.Previous Work: Only the publications having a direct bearing on the preparation of this paper are given in the list of selected references, but the writer is very conscious of the fact that much other geological work has been carried out in the Kalgoorlie district since its discovery, by the W.A. Department of Mines, by mining companies, and others, all of which has contributed to the present knowledge of the field, and acknowledgment of the value of this work is given herewith. In presenting the suggestions in this paper a broad structural control of ore deposition is assumed, but this has already been established in other parts of the goldfields of Western Australia, including adjacent areas. In the early nineteen thirties, the Western Mining Corporation commenced work on the basis that there was a close relationship between geological structure and auriferous ore deposition, and a similar approach was first made by the Geological Survey of Western Australia in the South Yilgarn in 1935. These ideas were further developed during later surveys, particularly in the North Yilgarn and the Mount Margaret Goldfield.During the Coolgardie Survey in 1946, broad structural mapping was done in greater detail than before, and the structural ideas were implemented and further developed, leading to some success.Other work to which particular acknowledgment is given is that of Stiltwell, Gustafson and Miller, Forman, Prider and Finucane, at Kalgoorlie, and that of Honman in the Kalgoorlie-Coolgardie district, references to which are given at the end of this paper.Valuable constructive criticism of this paper has been given by Professor E. de C. RECENT papers by Williams, Sherwood, and Boothby,1 Seybolt et al.2 Heikes; and Roberts4 attest to the increasing importance of the hexagonal ferromagnetic compound MnBi. Since the magnetic properties of MnBi crystals are highly anisotropic, it is useful and necessary to have appropriate aids for determining their orientations—a (00.1) standard stereographic projection and a corresponding table of crystallographic angles for this structure. The tables of crystallographic angles for the hexagonal system available in the literature5 are computed for c/a ratios greater than that of MnBi and cannot satisfactorily be used to find the crystallographic angles of MnBi. A table of angles between the crystallographic planes (HK.L) and (hk.1) was calculated for MnBi from the formula0 F=are cos Hh+Kk+ 1/2(Hk+hK) + 3/4 (a/c)2Ll/v(H2 + K2 + HK + 3/4 (a/c)2L2) (h2+ k2+hk + 3/4 (a/c)2l2) on an IBM Type 650 Magnetic Drum Data Processing machine. The lattice constants used are listed in Table I and are those determined by Willis and Rooksby7 at 20°C. More recently published values obtained by both X-ray and neutron diffraction"' show no difference from these significant to the calculation. "About 100 Hectares of land reclamation over the very soft to soft marine clay at Uran Creek in Maharashtra is planned. The depth of marine clay varies from 10m to 24m as observed from the geotechnical investigation. The marine clay was treated with Pre-fabricated Vertical Drains (PVD’s) installed from the elevation of +5.5mCD (chart Datum) and preload/placement of surcharge. A Settlement of soft soil mud under the reclamation was monitored using magnetic extensometer (M) and ground settlement maker (S2). These instruments are installed after constructing working platform at around +5.5m CD. Based on the field instrumentation data, the consolidation parameters were adjusted to match the theoretical and actual settlement plot. The author called this approach as “Back analysis method”. The objective of this paper is to present a case study of instrumented preloading treatment for a thick marine clay deposit. The degree of consolidation in clay strata was determined from magnetic extensometer and ground settlement marker data. Authors also determined degree of consolidation as Asaoka method, Hyperbolic method and Back analysis method and compared the results.INTRODUCTIONExpansion of Container terminal with port buildings, rail container depot, roads and utility buildings at Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) is planned over a reclaimed land of 100 hectares. Uran creek predominately consists of the estuarine deposit of very soft to soft marine clay. They are characterized by low shear strength, very low bearing capacity and exhibit large settlement when subjected to loading. The additional load causes the significant magnitude of consolidation settlement over a considerable period of time. Thus for development projects on top of soft soil, the postconstruction settlement would be of primary concern.To accelerate the consolidation pre-fabricated vertical drains (PVD) were used. Pre-loading procedure was adopted to minimize the post construction total and differential settlements. PVD’s were installed at 1.0m and 1.2m c/c triangular pattern. Locally available borrow material is used as a reclamation material. The reclamation material has been placed over the existing sea bed level by land based method/end tipping method and created the working platform. The level of working platform is decided based on the tide data and it has been selected such that work should be affected during highest high water level. The PVD has been installed from the working platform and subsequently all the field instruments have been installed from the same level. Five different types of field instruments are installed to monitor ground improvement works."
