Abstract

This Historical Metallurgy Note is the second part of a three-part series, the first of which appeared in the November- December issue of the Bulletin. Part III will be published in February, 1998. This series of articles is dedicated to the memory of Nikolai Maximovitch Pereskuryakov (1940-1994), Rector of Saint Petersburg Mining Institute from 1992 to 1994 who passed away unexpectedly at the age of 54, shortly after celebrating the 275th Anniversary of his Institute.
