Abstract

"Forming part of the Prairie Evaporites, the sylvinite layer mined at Alwinsal underlies the Blairmore quicksands and the water-bearing Devonian formations. Production is achieved by a method of trackless, continuous mining of rooms, leaving pillars for natural support. The paper describes the development of the mine, and the equipment and organization employed in the operation and maintenance of the underground facilities."
