Abstract
Professor EGGERTZ first published a method based upon the fact that, when steel is dissolved in dilute nitric acid, and heated until the separated flocculent carbonaceous matter goes into the solution, the liquid assomed a brown color proportionate in intensity to the amount of the combined carbon in the steel.
