Abstract

Unimin Corporation operates an underground Silica Sand mine at Guion, AR located in North Central Arkansas. The Silica Sand deposit at Guion is part of the St. Peter Sandstone Formation, which is overlain by a competent dolomitic limestone from the Joachim formation, acting as the roof directly above. Both the St. Peter and the Joachirn Formations are of Middle Ordovician age.
