Abstract

Activox® is a hydrometallurgical process used to oxidise sulphide concentrates. The process is based on two relatively simple, established unit operations; i.e. fine or ultra-fine milling (UFM) and pressure oxidation under mild conditions. An under-standing of, and ability to control the pulp chemistry during oxidation has resulted in the successful Activox® treatment ( on a batch scale) of a wide variety of sulphide flotation concentrates; • pyrite/arsenopyrite + gold • pyrite/chalcopyrite + gold • pyrite/chalcocite + gold • pyrite/enargite/tetrahedrite + gold Oxidation rates are rapid (1-2 hours retention time) and gold
