Abstract

The arising and behavioural pattern of polonium-210 in the Capper Pass & Son Limited non-ferrous metal smelting and refining circuit is briefly discussed. The process developed for the removal of polonium from lead, solder and bismuth is discussed in detail, together with the essential personnel safety and environmental protection precautions which must be taken during the refining and subsequent storage of the active dross.
