Abstract

The character, occurrence and genesis of the three types of nickel deposits, sulfide, laterite and deep-sea nodule are described, highlighting the differences in mineralogy and chemical composition that effect the extractive metallurgy of nickel and associated byproducts. World nickel production and current resources by deposit type and geographic location are also reviewed.
