Abstract

The Activox™ process is a new method for the pretreatment of refractory gold ore concentrates prior to cyanidation. The process has been developed in Western Australia, and relies on a combination of fine grinding and pressure oxidation to achieve the destruction of sulphide minerals and the liberation of encapsulated gold. The process operates under much more moderate conditions than those that would typically be used for conventional pressure oxidation of similar concentrates. This results in significantly lower capital and operating costs being achievable.
