Discussion of Winmill's paper, including various anecdotal examples, is presented together with the author's response; topics included: the need to distinguish cubic pyrites from the rapidly decomposing rhombic form known as marcasite; the effects of moisture content in the coal and air; the possible effect of pressure; the heat insulation resulting from heap/stack size; and the means of determining pyrite and moisture contents
