Abstract

Tunnel boring machine (TBM) performance in hard rock is highly dependent on the geologic conditions, including the type of rock and hysical properties like the rock strength, hardness, and the spacing of the fractures. This paper examines TBM performance relative to the geologic conditions and rock mass properties at four recent TBM-bored tunnels in California.
