Abstract
Industrial mineral deposits are widespread in Newfoundland
and Labrador and a variety of commodities are produced. The
province has the only pyrophyllite mine in Canada and also
produces asbestos, gypsum, silica, barite, limestone, gemstones,
cement and other structural materials. Large reserves
of these and other industrial minerals are known and several
deposits are likely future producers. Most producers are wellestablished
and have large tonnages of ore reserves.
