Abstract
Sev_eral dozen si lica occurrences have been reported from
various parts of Brit ish Columbia. Some represent hydrothermal
veins or parts of pegmatite bodies; other are
recrystall ized sandstones. Several vein type deposits were mined
for smelter flux and as a source of white chips for stucco
dash and simi lar products. Some quartzites were studied as potential sources of high-grade silica for ferrosilicon and
silicon metal production.
The province's only production of silica for ferrosilicon has
come from a pegmatitic quartz plug near Oliver in southern
British Columbia. Its reserves are now practically depleted.
