Abstract

The international scientific and engineer-ing community is being challenged to take advantage of the opportunity offered by the U.N. International Decade for Natural Disaster Reduction (IDNDR) program to reduce rapid onset geological hazards along the Pacific Rim. Natural disasters observe no national boundaries; international cooperation offers the best opportunity to reduce the losses these catastrophic events create.
