Abstract
"Pressure waves from submerged blasting can have adverse impacts on nearby structuresand on aquatic fauna. Underwater blasting is not allowed for some situations withoutmitigation of these adverse pressures. Two states currently require bubble-curtain, pressurereduction of underwater shooting for environmental concerns. St. Louis District hasconducted field monitoring of scaled testing and demolition shooting with air-screenmitigation. The deployment of compressed-air manifolds and air-entrained packagesheeting effectively reduces underwater blast pressure. St. Louis District is preparing areport on optimum use of underwater-blasting mitigation measures."
