Abstract
In Europe, approx. 50 km of traffic tunnels are under construction using Slurry-or EPB Shields or Convertibles of all sizes, among them the biggest slurry shield ever built up to now with 14,20 m diameter. Main characteristics and special features of the machines will be explained relating to geology, cover and water pressure. This gives a comprehensive overview of the latest developments of this kind of machines.
