Abstract

US 4,194,902 - Pig iron or other molten lion is effectlvely desulfurized by treatment with a mixture preferably about 60% by weight commercial grade calcium carbide, 30% dried limestone diamide, and the remainder bituminous coal. Equivalent desulfurization is obtained using a significantly lesser amount of desulfurizer than in previous mixture of calcium carbide and limestone diamide W Gmohling, assigned to SKW Trostberg AG.
