Abstract

Plant layout is the arrangement of equipment, process areas, departments, infrastructure, and support facilities. Plant logistics is the flow of parts, people, resources, and information throughout the production process. This chapter: outlines key factors and provides checklists to facilitate layout development; presents risk management approaches to test the logistics and functionality of alternative layouts; and uses real-world examples to illustrate effective simulation modelling to assess plant layouts.
