Abstract

INTRODUCTION Shinkansen, operating 1,176km between Tokyo and Hakata, transports 340,000 passengers a day. Presently, the 466km Tohoku Shinkansen linking Tokyo and Morioka and the 270km Jyoetsu Shinkansen linking Omiya and Niigata are under construction. It is progressing smoothly and 95% of the civil and architectural construction has already been completed.
