Abstract

This paper deals with Jones & Laughlin Steel Corporation's new Adams mine, near Kirkland Lake, Ontario. After a brief discussion of ore structure, type, reserve tonnages, etc., the main body of the paper discusses the establishment of an open-pit limit based on economic considerations. The method used by J & L to arrive at an economically sound open-pit boundary its outlined fully. Physical limitations to open-pit boundaries are mentioned briefly. The paper concludes with a few remarks on the mining equipment in use and on its productivity
