Abstract

Catchment basin sampling allows for rapid assessment of large areas. Stream sediment surveys are a common tool used in regional exploration. The difficulty in detecting geochemical anomalies in stream sediment data from large regional datasets lies in finding the background values of pathfinder elements due to variable lithologies that could be sampled within a single basin. An alternative data driven method to discover anomalies in complex environments, without a priori knowledge of background concentrations, is presented here
