Abstract

"Problematic issues in materials handling applications are often amplified in the iron ore industry due to the relatively high density of the ore as well as the abrasive nature of the product. One of the main issues arising from the handling of iron ore is excessive wear, with two applications typically suffering accelerated wear issues being transfer chutes and conveyor belts. These wear issues are problematic due to additional capital costs, but mainly due to the associated downtimes resulting in the accelerated wear. This study will focus on the modelling of iron ore in practical applications where design work was undertaken in order to reduce the wear rates of different materials handling equipment.CITATION:Donohue, T J, Ilic, D and Krull, T, 2013.
