Abstract

THE year 1936 has been an eventful one in the iron and steel industry. Renewed industrial activity has brought with it many new problems. These problems have generally involved the question of increasing capacity without sacrifice of economies and quality developed in the less active previous years. The nature of the iron ore used and the effect of its porosity and other physical characteristics on the capacity of the blast furnace has been reviewed by the U. S. Bureau of Mines.
