Abstract
WAGNERL described the thermodynamic behavior of a metallic solution consisting of the solute components 2, 3,... at very dilute concentrations in the solvent, 1, in terms of the excess partial molar free energy, or alternatively the logarithm of the activity coefficient. In the Taylor expansion of FiE, by neglecting the second- and higher-order differential terms, he obtained the excess partial molar free energy as a linear function of the composition:
