Abstract
Dealing successfully with intercultural issues is critical for success on an international assignment. This is true not only for employees but for the accompanying spouses and children as well. This paper presents a set of research-based competencies required for successful life and work in another country, such as open-mindedness, flexibility, and respect for the beliefs of others. Best practices for training employees and their families bound for international assignments are also presented.
