Abstract

The rationale for innovations in two directions is identified: raising capital and annual throughput, in order to avoid the cost of constructing and operating an additional system and to reduce the capital cost of pits and tunnels, applicable to installations of any capacity. Cast histories cover railroad unloading of bottom dump cars, rotary dumping of random cars, with and without indexer, and unit trains as well as truck unloading of multiple grades of coal.
