Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to describe some of the methods and practices of mining coal mechanically where more than one shift is worked, with the view of determining the advantages and disadvantages of various types of equipment and mining systems now in use. This paper is in the nature of a progress report, and, as the number of mines discussed in it is limited, the conclusions drawn in the comparison of various systems are not final but may be revised after subsequent investigations.
