Abstract

This paper covers the salient features of the occurrence and mining of sheet mica in the United States and the preparation of mica for market; presents the results of a study of the physical properties of domestic and foreign micas, which the author hopes may he of interest to every mica user, as it definitely answers many questions as to the suitability of various minas for particular purposes; and discusses mica-trade conditions and the future outlook for the domestic mica industry. ACKNOWLEDGMENTS The author takes pleasure in acknowledging his indebtedness to J. R. Thoenen, of the United Stator Bureau of Mines, under whose guidance the work reported herein was performed, and to Frank L. Hess, also of the Bureau, for information on the geological and mineralogical characteristics of mica-bearing pegmatites.
