Abstract
This paper presents a summary of basic requirements for the design, installation and operation of
booster fans in coal mines, especially in deep and/or extensive mines. It includes a brief description of
the major steps that should be followed to ensure that these units are used in coal mines safely and efficiently.
The guidelines were prepared based on the standards and regulations adopted by two prominent
coal mining countries, the best practices developed by the mining industry, and the applicable standards
used in the United States for the fail-safe operation of main fans.
