Abstract

A bridge reconstruction project involved driving pipe piles for the new foundations. Disturbances within soil layers at depth caused sinkholes to open up within the construction site. After a near fatal accident, the pile driving installations were suspended. The solution involved ground improvement through cement grouting with sleeve pipes and special grout additives to minimize migration of cement grout.
