Abstract
The phases of a typical exploration program for sand and
gravel resources include:
(1) collection and assessment of existing information;
(2) air photo interpretation and remote sensing;
(3) ground investigation and mapping;
(4) sampling and testing; and
(5) data storage, retrieval, analysis and presentation.
Depending on the purpose, time frame and funding available
for the study, these phases, and the various techniques used
within each phase, will vary. Once a sand and gravel deposit
has been located, defined in size and quality, and found to be
suitable for a given purpose, it can then be classified as a
granular resource.
