Abstract

Consider these four questions:What is the definition of life-of-mine?When should life-of-mine planning seriously commence? When can life-of-mine planning seriously commence? What is the key input to effective life-of-mine planning?Whilst there is likely to be general consensus on the answers to the first three questions, the answer to the fourth question is open to debate. This author argues that understanding and managing risks and opportunities associated with geological uncertainty is the key input to effective life-of-mine planning, at all stages in the life cycle of a mining project.CITATION:Berry, M, ?2014.
