Abstract

A new testing technique for the determination of the rock strength from portable rock tester is proposed. It is a quick and economical method that can determine the rock strength with reasonable accuracy in different conditions. This method is based on the application of portable rock tester working at the principle of forcing steel ball into the rock surface. The correlation between laboratory measured compressive and/or tensile strength and rack tester reading has been determined in terms of the three-controlling parameters: (1). diameter of indentation &'the testing sample, (2). diameter of indentation-on the reference bar, (3). Brine11 hardness number of reference bar.
