Abstract

The comparison of belt drives with other types of power transmission involves the consideration of many factors before a final choice is made. Where other forms of power transmission might also be suitable, the selection of the correct type of belt has first to be made, in order to obtain a true comparison. The paper first deals with the types of belting available, followed by a description of most other forms of transmission equipment. An example is then given of the selection of suitable belts, which are then compared with other types of transmission. Comparative costs are also given. Reference charts provided show drives found suitable in general practice...
