Abstract

A table concentrate obtained experimentally by the New Occidental Gold Mines N.L. has unusual interest on account of the presence in it of abundant coated or "black" gold. The concentrate was obtained from ore from the New Cobar mine, Cobar, New South Wales, by feeding the oversize product from a "Dorr Bowl classifier to a Card table. Its assay value was 129 oz. of gold and 52 oz. of silver per ton, yet practically no free gold could be seen on panning. When, however, the concentrate was digested in hydrochloric acid fine rusty gold could be obtained by panning. The following chemical analysis was carried out by the mining company on a similar sample of concentrate.
