Abstract
The deeper workings of the Leadville mines show refractory ores, consisting principally of sulphides of iron, lead, and zinc, carrying silver, in place of the easily reduced carbonate ores lying nearer the surface. The largest and most extensively developed deposit is that of South Iron Hill.* It lies on the north side of California Gulch,
