Abstract

The influence of the life of a mine extends beyond its immediate vicinity both in geographic and temporal terms. Decisions around mine approvals are generally made based on economics, for the mine owner and immediate environmental and social impacts by governments and communities. The value from life-of-mine planning can also be viewed in a holistic frame across the entire value chain from mine to product user. This research examines the Carmichael Coal Mine in light of the holistic benefits and impacts along its value chain from the mine to relieving the lot of energy poor in India.CITATION:Keith, A C and von Blottnitz, H, 2016.
