Abstract

The first of this three part series examines he history and some of the properties and characteristics of explosives. Use of explosives is discussed for underground and surface coal operations—the largest consumers in the mining industry. Part two of the series will deal with explosives use in surface and underground hardrock operations. Part three will discuss explosives transportation, storage, handling, and destruction.
