Abstract

Since 1976, the Metropolitan Sanitary District of Greater Chicago, (MSDGC), has commissioned the excavation of a tunnel system in the Chicago area, hundreds of feet below the surface in solid limestone. This paper outlines the blasting patterns, explosive selections, and monitoring techniques used to assure a satisfactory job completion, following the specifications.
