Abstract
Biohydrometallurgy is now forty years old. Since the discovery of the role of microorganisms in the oxidation of sulphide minerals that gives rise to acid mine drainage, many workers in industry, research organizations and academia in many countries have been active in attempts to develop practical commercial processes which exploit microbiological reactions in mineral processing and extractive metallurgy.
