Abstract
INTRODUCTION Automatic controls are devices that assist operators by performing routine tasks faster and better than they could alone. Great strides have keen taken in the development of new processes and bigger machines to improve productivity, but these developments created the need for increased protection of machinery and labor. The new production-line techniques, or continuous processes developed, resulted in routine and, frequently, demoralizing jobs. The human race is not constituted mentally to perform routine operations. Devices were needed also to gather information automatically and perform routine functions.
